It’s Saturday, Go loco!

Local stores, locavore, local newspapers and local attractions.
The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Most times one saves a lot more of that grass with holiday staycations and gift getting.
At least it cuts down somewhat on road rage and pollution.

  1. or indulge yourself on a comfy couch watching the games: futbol, football, basketball or lame duck politicians – whatever.

    but first, soccer

This is the hilarious take on how most of the US views soccer, as seen in The Simpsons episode “The Cartridge Family” (season 9, episode 5).

  2. USA! USA!

USA punch above their World Cup weight against England once again | USA | The Guardian

There’s a saying in fashion that two is a coincidence but three is a trend. Say what you want about the United States still having never lost to England at the World Cup and the abbreviated sample size behind it, but there must by now be something about the Americans’ habit of elevating their game when they meet the English on soccer’s biggest stage.
They played for the first time in 1950, when an American team of amateurs including a mailman, a dishwasher and a hearse driver famously bucked the odds and marred England’s tournament debut with a 1-0 stunner in Belo Horizonte. Then came a 1-1 draw six decades later in South Africa, when Rob Green’s goalkeeping gaffe canceled out Steven Gerrard’s early strike.
And now this, a scoreless draw on a humid Friday night along the northeast coast of Qatar that leaves Gregg Berhalter’s young Americans with a clear path to the knockout stage and feeling awfully good about themselves after trading blows with one of the tournament favorites and getting the better of the exchanges for most of the night.
Their nine other meetings outside the World Cup, all since the second world war, have been mostly one-way traffic: England winning eight, drawing none and losing once, in something called the US Cup, back in 1993. But for some unexplained reason, the Americans have managed to punch above their weight against the Three Lions when the lights have burned brightest.
“I don’t think we’re really disappointed [with the result],” said Weston McKennie, who wasted the best chance of the night for either side in the 26th minute when he darted into the box unmarked and sent a volley soaring over the bar. “We felt like we were all in. We held the ball really well, It just sucks we couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.”

Giant Elon Musk goat statue drawing eyes in Austin is homage to crypto contributions | The Hill

A giant statue of Elon Musk’s head atop a goat has arrived in Austin. On Saturday, its creators intend to deliver it to Tesla’s headquarters.
The creators said the statue pays tribute to Musk’s contributions to cryptocurrency by portraying him as a GOAT, meaning greatest of all time.
The sprawling silver statue includes Musk’s head on top of a goat’s body, which is riding a rocket.
The creators, who developed the cryptocurrency Elon GOAT Token, say the statue cost $600,000.
They’ve driven the statue around the Austin area in the lead up to Saturday’s event, titled “GOATSGIVING,” where the creators hope to gather supporters before bringing the statue to Tesla’s headquarters nearby.
“We’re going to have some fun for a few hours and then all the cars and trucks will hit the freeway behind the monument, destined for TESLA’s GIGA FACTORY!” reads a promotional flier for Saturday’s event.
Musk has yet to comment on the group’s plans, and there is no indication he is aware of the statue. [continues]

  4. Yesterday futbol. Looking forward to Tuesday – no more ties, please. Bear Bryant said a tie is like kissing your sister (he might have known – he was from Arkansas).
    But today, football. And leftovers.

  5. It’s pouring rain, so I’ll not venture out.  If anyone wants a shirt or mug from Elizabeth Warren’s online shop, the discount code is ELON.  Ha!

Nebraska beat Iowa yesterday. I had to check the score to make it wasn’t a dream. No bowl game, again, so football is pretty much over for me.

  6. I will admit I have no interest in soccer, I am a child of my times.  I learned how to play the game in junior high school because one of our gym teachers had been a professional soccer player prior to WWII in some Eastern European country. I failed to be enthused. This lack of enthusiasim is probably why the U.S. is not a powerhouse in the realm of football today.

Which means I fail to feel the joy of a scoreless tie in the game between the U.S. and England.  Play overtime until someone, somehow, makes the round thing go through the rectangle.  It is not satisfactory to have a zero to zero score.  Someone must have enough money laying around to bribe someone to make it happen.

  7. When I was a a teenager, I would watch the match of the week (England or Germany) after Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. I just liked listening to the announcer’s accent.

When I lived in Minnesota, a bunch of us went to watch indoor soccer, but the only thing less exciting than a soccer match is an indoor soccer match.

  8. This morning I finally got down to search for someone I had watched over the last couple of years on YouTube as he would go into the Russian forests and build a shelter or two.  He was young, wore military clothes and boots.  I am sure he already did his compulsory time.  Once I was sure he was Russian, he talked to his dog in Russian, I started wondering when he would end up in Ukraine.  But, then I noticed something else, some of his food/provisions were Finnish.  Putting him near the Finnish border.  Now that he has not published a YouTube video in several months I am sure he is now eating a lot of Finnish foods, or is maybe not enjoying life. He seemed to be much different than the regular Russian, perhaps he is now.

  9. Looks like another Belarus/Russian foreign minister got a case of sudden death, at age 64.  Wonder what he said?  Did he really like puttie? Or was it a case of bad tea?

  10. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/25/tech/apple-foxconn-iphone-supply-china-covid-intl-hnk/index.html

“Every week of this shutdown and unrest we estimate is costing Apple roughly $1 billion a week in lost iPhone sales.”

“It said its assembly facility in Zhengzhou, which normally houses some 200,000 workers, was “currently operating at significantly reduced capacity,” due to Covid curbs.

“Even before this week’s demonstrations, Apple had started making the iPhone 14 in India, as it sought to diversify its supply chain away from China.”

    Mmmmaybe Apple should sell
    iPhones as a DIY kit.
