Footage released by ICE from August 17 shows masked agents taking down a sign in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. The sign read “Chinga, La Migra” which roughly translates to “f**k the immigration.” This comes as federal agents and the National Guard are patrolling the capital city amid Trump’s federal crackdown on crime.

Regarding the question about false imprisonment, it hangs on the basis for the demand. This clause from the Texas statute is where the question is answered. “(d) It is no offense to detain or move another under this section when it is for the purpose of effecting a lawful arrest or detaining an individual lawfully arrested.”
The answer hangs on whether there’s a lawful arrest warrant for the Dem reps in the Texas House. Based on this Texas Tribune article, it looks like the element cited above is satisfied and the TX Supreme Court cleared the same arrests in 2021.
The House used the same tactic to try to force Democrats back to work in 2021, when a majority of them left for Washington, D.C., to protest GOP voting restrictions. Some of the lawmakers challenged the warrants in court, obtaining an injunction against arrests that was later struck down by the Texas Supreme Court.
While the Texas Constitution “enables ‘quorum-breaking’ by a minority faction of the legislature, it likewise authorizes ‘quorum-forcing’ by the remaining members,” the court ruled.
Precedent. It may be bullshit precedent, but it’s precedent nonetheless.
The next step to avoid this shit, and I suspect it is in the works, is a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the basis of the civil arrest warrants as a basis to detain and confine legislators. I’m surprised we haven’t seen that yet.

Trump didn’t call Putin in front of European leaders to avoid being ‘disrespectful’ to Putin
“I didn’t do it in front of them — I thought that would be disrespectful to President Putin. I wouldn’t do that, because they have not had the warmest relations,” Trump told Fox News’s “Fox & Friends.”
“And actually, President Putin wouldn’t talk to the people from Europe. I mean, that was part of the problem,” he added.
“I hope President Putin is going to be good. If he’s not, that’s going to be a rough situation. And I hope Zelensky, President Zelensky, will do what he has to do. He has to show some flexibility also. The thing is a mess.”
President Trump rambled about his chances of “going to heaven” in bizarre comments about his efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Trump spoke on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning after hosting European leaders at the White House a day earlier for talks about the conflict.
Asked about reports that he called Russian President Vladimir Putin in the middle of his summit with European leaders, Trump went off on a tangent about his relationship with the Kremlin leader and America’s nuclear arsenal. Saying he “just wants to end it,” Trump then started speaking about heaven.
“If I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed, I think that’s a pretty—I want to try and get to heaven if possible,” Trump said.

On today’s episode of The Walton’s, war is coming. Paris has fallen, and this quote from Mussolini offered by Grandpa Walton:
Ghislaine Maxwell told a federal judge Tuesday that she opposes the Justice Department’s effort to unseal grand jury transcripts in her case, which she described in court papers as a “broad intrusion into grand jury secrecy.”
“Given that she is actively litigating her case and does not know what is in the grand jury record, she has no choice but to respectfully oppose the government’s motion to unseal it,” her lawyers, David Oscar Markus and Melissa Madrigal, wrote.
The Justice Department requested the unsealing in both the Maxwell and Epstein cases as a way to fend off fierce criticism from President Donald Trump’s MAGA base after the administration decided against releasing the so-called Epstein files.
***
Contrary to the Government’s depiction, the Maxwell grand jury testimony is not a matter of significant historical or public interest. Far from it,” U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer wrote in his 31-page ruling.
“It consists of garden-variety summary testimony by two law enforcement agents. And the information it contains is already almost entirely a matter of longstanding public record.”
Engelmayer is an appointee of former President Obama. The administration has made a similar request in Epstein’s case, which remains pending and will be handled by a different federal judge.
*Why refuse to unseal them, then?

After the state House Democrats returned to the Lone Star State on Monday, ending their two-week out-of-state stint to prevent Republicans from passing a new congressional map in a redistricting effort, state Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) declared that those who came back would have an officer with them to ensure they didn’t leave the state again.

A federal judge has dismissed President Donald Trump’s copyright lawsuit against Bob Woodward, Simon & Schuster, and Paramount Global, ruling that Trump’s claims of co-authorship for the audiobook The Trump Tapes are not credible. The judge noted that conflicting copyright registrations need independent resolution of ownership issues. District Judge Paul Gardephe, citing Supreme Court guidance under the Copyright Act, ruled that authorship belongs to the creator.
Gardephe found Trump’s claim of joint authorship with Woodward unsubstantiated, noting Woodward and Simon & Schuster had filed their own copyright in February.
Gardephe ruled, “Trump’s legal claim does not ‘plausibly allege’ that he was the joint author of The Trump Tapes or has a copyright interest in them.”

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — A Maine police officer arrested by immigration authorities has agreed to voluntarily leave the country, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Monday.
ICE arrested Old Orchard Beach Police Department reserve Officer Jon Luke Evans, of Jamaica, on July 25, as part of the agency’s effort to step up immigration enforcement . Officials with the town and police department have said federal authorities previously told them Evans was legally authorized to work in the U.S.
An ICE representative reached by telephone told The Associated Press on Monday that a judge has granted voluntary departure for Evans and that he could leave as soon as that day. The representative did not provide other details about Evans’ case.
Evans’ arrest touched off a dispute between Old Orchard Beach officials and ICE. Police Chief Elise Chard has said the department was notified by federal officials that Evans was legally permitted to work in the country, and thatthe town submitted information via the Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify program prior to Evans’ employment. Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin then accused the town of “reckless reliance” on the department’s E-Verify program.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Tuesday the opening of a migrant detention facility in Nebraska as President Trump’s administration ramps up the expansion of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) detention capabilities.
The new facility, located in the southwest part of the state, was dubbed “Cornhusker Clink” and will house “criminal illegal aliens” arrested by ICE, DHS said in a press release. The detention center came as a result of a partnership between the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services and ICE, expanding the capacity by up to 280 beds.
The officials are using the existing minimum security prison work camp in McCook, located around 210 west of Lincoln.
“Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Nebraska to expand detention bed space by 280 beds,” Noem said in a statement. “Thanks to Governor [Jim] Pillen [R] for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Nebraska’s Cornhusker Clink. Avoid arrest and self-deport now using the CBP Home App.”
Pillen announced Tuesday that the Nebraska National Guard will provide “administrative and logistical” support to ICE officials based in Nebraska to help enforce immigration laws. About 20 Army National Guard soldiers will be a part of the mission, with training beginning next week, according to DHS.
“I am also proud that the Nebraska State Patrol and National Guard will be assisting ICE enforcement efforts, as well,” Pillen said in a statement. “Homeland security starts at home, and, just as when I twice deployed troops to secure our southern border during the failed Biden administration, Nebraska will continue to do its part.”

Several Texas state House Democrats ripped up the written agreements that allowed them to leave the chamber with a police escort and returned to the House floor Tuesday night, the caucus announced.
The lawmakers will spend the night on the House floor with state Rep. Nicole Collier, who has stayed in the chamber for more than 24 hours after declining to sign the “permission slip” to leave.
“Who’s ready to tear up this slip?” state Rep. Mihaela Plesa said Tuesday as she tore through the agreement in front of the doors to the House chamber.
State Rep. Penny Morales Shaw said after returning to the Houston area under police escort, she realized it was a mistake to enter into the agreement, arguing she is now “correcting course.”
“Yesterday, I left in custody and I came back in custody, because I stand with Nicole Collier and Gene Wu,” she said. “This is illegitimate, this is a wrongful use of power, and I will not condone it, and I don’t want to be a part of setting a very bad and low precedent for future legislators.”
State Rep. Gene Wu, who leads Texas Democrats in the House, has accompanied Collier on the chamber floor for most of the past day.
“This is a civil discussion and disagreement, and in order to win, the other side is willing to use force — to use the arms of a state to get what they want. Good guys don’t do that,” Wu told CNN’s Pamela Brown on “The Lead.”
Plesa and Morales Shaw were joined by state Reps. Rhetta Bowers, Cassandra Garcia Hernandez and Senfronia Thompson. Other Democrats could return to the House floor on Tuesday night.
“Why would we be considered a flight risk if we walked in of our own volition?” Bowers said. “This is a blatant violation of our freedoms as Texans, as Americans and as duly elected officials.”
Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows said Monday the Democrats could leave the House floor only if they received written permission and agreed to be under a Department of Public Safety officer’s escort until the chamber reconvenes on Wednesday morning.
*So, just tonight. Should have actually refused to sign instead of hopping on the bandwagon at the 11th hour, riding Collier’s coattails.

*FDT, his entire administration of n@zis, and all of the white supremacists who support this abomination. Shameful. Branding it with this alliterative name should disgust all Nebraskans, but some will think it’s cool. Dumbasses. Now, when sports announcers say “Cornhuskers,” it will be tied to human rights violations. ~Go, big red.~
There’s a concentration camp in Texas named “Bluebonnet,” and I hope the ghost of Lady Bird Johnson haunts Noem, the wardens, and anyone making money off of the suffering of others at that wretched, Republican prison.

*Joe Rogan goes rogue; he still wants to see the Epstein files. Musical guest, Jesse Welles. Weird. I’d never have put those two together, well, maybe now.
The Dems who’ve decided to rip up their “permission slips” now look like willing captors. They probably regret caving so easily.
Ah, Kamala Harris called Nicole Collier with a show of support. Icing on their shoulda-coulda-woulda cake.

The Nobel Committee will be under enormous pressure to throw Dodo a bone. Maybe they will handle it by handing out treats to him, Zelensky and Pootie at the same time. Assuming some form of peace is achieved.
Pootie is not going to help Dodo achieve the top prize unless he gets a piece of it.
TX State Representative James Talarico never went back into the building, so he didn’t even get ordered to sign a “permission slip” to be surveilled or to be locked on the floor of the TX State House like Collier.
I wonder if others escaped and if he will show up tomorrow or break quorum, again?
