The president and Jill Biden, the first lady, have invited 1,000 military personnel and essential workers to an Independence Day bash on the South Lawn of the White House. Mr. Biden and his advisers, eager to claim credit for the virus’s retreat in the United States, are talking about a “summer of joy and freedom.”
Mr. Biden will visit Traverse City, Mich., on Saturday as part of what the White House calls the “America’s Back Together” celebration. Dr. Biden will also take to the road, as will Vice President Kamala Harris, her husband, Doug Emhoff, and various cabinet officials who will attend festivals, parades and cookouts around the nation.

In a bid to persuade Americans that Mr. Biden is restoring the pre-pandemic order, the Democratic National Committee this week released an upbeat ad entitled “America’s Coming Back” and sent a bus, the “America’s Back” mobile, traveling the country to give out free ice cream. It bears Mr. Biden’s image and the words “Shots in Arms, Checks in Banks, Jobs Coming Back, and Scoops in Hands!”

White House officials said Mr. Biden was hardly declaring victory or “mission accomplished,” but simply wanted to take stock of the gains the United States had made against the virus since he took office. To combat the spread of the Delta variant, the administration is sending “Covid-19 surge response teams” to communities at risk, Jeffrey D. Zients, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, told reporters on Thursday.
“The Fourth of July is a moment for us to step back and celebrate our progress,” Mr. Zients said, adding, “There’s a lot more work to do.”
The United States has made significant progress against the pandemic since Mr. Biden took office on Jan. 20 warning of a “dark winter” ahead. Daily reports of new cases are holding steady at about 12,000, the lowest since testing became widely available, according to a New York Times database — down from about 200,000 on Inauguration Day.
For the first time since March 2020, the country is averaging fewer than 300 newly reported deaths a day, a decline of about 20 percent over the past two weeks. Hospitalizations are also dropping.

  2. Wonder if any of those monkeys have ever tried to pick up keys or silverware with a magnet.

May the Ford be with you.

“I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures all over the internet of people who have had these shots and now they’re magnetized,” Tenpenny said. “You can put a key on their forehead, it sticks. You can put spoons and forks all over and they can stick because now we think there is a metal piece to that.”“She also falsely said the vaccine contains particles that can connect to 5G wireless technology. “

Even if that nonsense were true, how would it be a bad thing? You’d never lose your keys and you’d be your own WiFi hot spot.

I think they should add magnets and 5G particles to the booster.

“July 4. Statistics show that we lose more fools on this day than in all the other days of the year put together. This proves, by the number left in stock, that one fourth of July per year is now inadequate, the country has grown so”

“The business aspects of the Fourth of July is not perfect as it stands. See what it costs us every year with loss of life, the crippling of thousands with its fireworks, and the burning down of property. It is not only sacred to patriotism and universal freedom, but to the surgeon, the undertaker, the insurance offices – and they are working it for all it is worth.”

[that was said even before the highway fatalities, accidental shootings by drunks and covid deaths of the unvaccinated party-goers celebrating the 4th]

  5. this reminds me of what happened to craig’s thread topic today.

sam the eagle reciting the declaration= fearless leader

and the singing muppets = trail mixers (for example, sturge is the red coated band leader and I want dibs on being the flag waving rat)

  6. boding bad.   a lotta talk nowadays about another civil war.  stuff like this is a scary omen of things to come:

Massachusetts police responding to group of ‘heavily armed men’ claiming to ‘not recognize our laws’ – ABC News (go.com)

A bizarre incident is playing out Saturday morning in Wakefield, Massachusetts. According to local police: “during a motor vehicle stop, several heavily armed men claiming to be from a group that does not recognize our laws exited their vehicles and fled into the woodline” near Interstate Highway 95.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. when a state trooper came across a group of 8 to 10 people refueling on the side of the I-95 highway in Wakefield, a suburb of Boston. The group was dressed in military-style uniforms, carried tactical gear like body cameras and helmets and had long guns slung over their shoulders.

They told officials they were on their way to Maine from Rhode Island for “training,” Col. Christopher Mason said.

Officials said they made two arrests and the rest of the group, which calls itself “Moorish American Arms,” fled into a wooded area that is now surrounded by police.

A stretch of I-95 is closed and there are shelter-in-place orders for people who live nearby.

    […]

The Wakefield Police Department said in an early morning statement: “Approximately 8 males fled into the woods carrying rifles and handguns and appear to be contained in the wooded area adjacent to the highway. No threats were made, but these men should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Massachusetts State Police, who are also on the scene, tweeted early Saturday: “We have several armed persons accounted for at this scene on Rt 95. They are refusing to comply with orders to provide their information and put down their weapons. We are asking residents of Wakefield and Reading to shelter in place at this time.”

  7. Agreed.  Leave it up until Labor Day.

Well, the guys that fled into the woods probably haven’t been vaccinated so we can’t track ‘em by chip.

  8. The way I understood it from a tweetertainer was an armed Yokel Group on their way to Maine (lepage?) broke down on a Massachusetts interstate where such ignorant yokel shit is illegal and when the Law showed up a bunch of em run off into the woods or something like that and now there is a question of which group’s Authoritah! (Yokel or Mass Cops) is the uppermost.

  9. Sturg…  LePage got his ass handed to him in the last election.  The current governor of Maine is a Democrat and a woman…  Janet Mills.

Yeah…  Massachusetts doesn’t take kindly to people carrying firearms without permits…  it’s an automatic 1 year jail sentence.

  10. So the idiots in MA are celebrating the nation’s founding by training to take it down?  Lovely sentiment that. Asshats.

  11. Damn, different set of goobers.

Yep, my tattered mind rushed straight over to the white side of the goober spectrum.

  12. New York State’s Trump Investigation: An analysis of the reported facts and applicable law (brookings.edu)

In a new Brookings publication, four leading experts discuss the possible first case that reportedly may lie ahead shortly—and conclude that Trump is at risk of eventual indictment even if he is not named in that initial filing. This reportanalyzes the potential charges both the Trump Organization and Trump himself may face. The report also goes in depth into the defenses that may be available in response to any indictment.

Brookings report concludes: Donald Trump at “serious” risk of indictment | Salon.com

A blockbuster report from the Brookings Institute this week concluded that former President Donald Trump is at “serious” risk of indictment for a number of alleged crimes, including tax dodging, falsifying records and a variety of business-related fraud.

The 60-page report, released Monday, came just days before criminal indictments against Trump Organization and its longtime finance chief were unsealed Thursday. Both the company and CFO Allen Weisselberg were accused of staging a 15-year-long scheme to avoid payroll taxes for top executives through the use of off-the-books corporate benefits.

    […]

The report identifies five areas where Trump is most at risk of prosecution:

    1. Falsifying business records
    2. Tax Fraud
    3. Insurance Fraud
    4. “Scheme to defraud”
    5. Enterprise Fraud
  13. So, I’m in the garage sorting  my stuff , and I found a real nugget trap of old photographs.  I’m going to upload a black and white sheet  with two images.  It was taken by Gail Skchoff  (?) from Berkley, she’s the maiden in the pool .
The really cool thing about this old hippy lark  is where it was shot .
July 1970 the “Valley View Hot Strings” Colorado .
Remember this is 11 months after Woodstock .

  14. Trump said he and DeSantis “mutually agreed” gov should stay at Surfside tonight but Ron is actually in Tallahassee and did a live shot stepping on Trump rally, on FOX, which isn’t covering Trump

  15. Scanner is not responding, on the new brain .
Ron sees that pile of rubble as a new platform for him.  Like Rudy and George.
This cyclone season  is going to give him plenty of piles of rubble to stand on.

  16. The My Pillow guy is dumping a ton of money into over the air channels here.  He cut his pillow price  by $40 dollars.

I got to think he’s burning through cash like  Trump’s businesses.

  17. As for the fear of the “Right Wing” , the SCOTUS  worries me a lot.
As for the gun nuts.  They can’t even get into Maine on the I-95.
“These are not very bright people”.

“The Moorish sovereign citizen movement is a collection of independent organizations and lone individuals that emerged in the early 1990s as an offshoot of the antigovernment sovereign citizens movement, which believes that individual citizens hold sovereignty over, and are independent of, the authority of federal and state governments,” the Southern Poverty Law Center says of the movement. “Moorish sovereigns espouse an interpretation of sovereign doctrine that African Americans constitute an elite class within American society with special rights and privileges that convey on them a sovereign immunity placing them beyond federal and state authority.”

  19. Watching Trump rally speech tonight was like Wayne Newton reduced to a cheap motel lounge act, or Bill Murray with a distorted microphone singing Star Wars to a badly tuned piano. SAD!

  20. These new voting laws are about to back fire  , trust me it’s the NRA turn out theory flipped.
“We’re coming after your guns .”
    “We’re coming after your vote.”
That is a very new  vein  in our bloodstream , and the oldest  trick  they are left with.
    “Jim Crow Lite” .

  21. So far the right can’t pour pee out of boot, even if we  stamped the instructions on the heel.
I’m betting on the  ocean of young women with brown and black faces.
The GOP is as dead as a cicada.

  22. Obama  mattered.  We are just about  to see that wave.
I may be an old white guy,  but I’m a really   good historian.
And those kids in 2008  are coming .
