  1. jamie, for you from the hill:

A coalition of indigenous and progressive groups is calling on Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) to withdraw himself from consideration to serve as Interior secretary under the coming Biden administration and instead back Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.).

The two New Mexico lawmakers are on President-elect Joe Biden’s short list to run the department.

While Udall would be the second in his family to run Interior, Haaland would be the first Native American to run the agency and serve in a Cabinet position.
“You have long been a champion for Indian Country and a leader in the fight for climate justice,” the groups wrote to Udall, a chair of the Senate Committee in Indian Affairs.
“At the same time, there has already been a Udall who has served as Secretary of the Interior – your father Stewart. It would not be right for two Udalls to lead the Department of the Interior, the agency tasked with managing the nation’s public lands, natural resources and trust responsibilities to tribes, before a single Native American,” NDN Collective, an indigenous rights group, Sunrise Movement, a youth climate organization, Data for Progress and Justice Democrats wrote in the letter.
The letter continues stating that a second Udall at Interior is not “what you or your father have stood for in your tireless advocacy for strong Native representation at all levels of government.”

  2. So yesterday was a new high for Covid deaths at 3347 and Dumbass thinks the Texas lawsuit is the most important issue for the country to deal with.  The rolling average based on the last week is now 2360 per day. And D’ump fiddles while America burns.  Here’s the weekly dashboard.
In the past week in the U.S….

New daily reported cases rose 15.6%
New daily reported deaths rose 20.1%
    Covid-related hospitalizations rose 6.2%

Among reported tests, the positivity rate was 9.9%.
The number of tests reported rose 27.4%

And BTW, this Wapo article about the vetting of Ms. Nguyen of Mr. Braynard’s allegations of voter fraud in Georgia is definitely worth the time to read it.  As Ms. Nguyen found,

He [Braynard] provided lists of voters’ personal information to back up his claim that there were thousands of individuals who had voted but were registered in another state. He said the lists showed voters who used a post office address to mask their true residences and that others voted in two states.

During the hearing Thursday, Nguyen countered Braynard’s analysis with her own research, based on a sampling of the exhibits included in the lawsuit.

Of the first 10 names on the list that were allegedly out-of-state voters, Nguyen said she found eight who were longtime Georgia residents and property owners by using public records.

Dozens of voters who the campaign suggested used P.O. boxes to vote illegally were actually residents of a single condominium building that had a mail center on the first floor — including Republicans and Democrats, she said.

    And so it goes.

  3. Happy Hanukkah to those that observe!

Pogo…  we have a P.O. box number as our mailing address.  I don’t know about other states…  but NH allows anyone to use a PO box address on their voting registration.  Many women don’t want exes to know their address.

Craig…  I really like that blanket on your couch  😉

  4. If my post seems like a bit of a downer, because of what I see with respect to the human toll of Covid and the Dumbass’ feckless management of it (Operation Warp Speed notwithstanding) and the ongoing obsession with Dumbass’ attempts to steal the presidency, I am generally felling as if I have a shitload in common with Melville’s Ishmael.

Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people’s hats off—then, I account it high time tozz get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

    (Continues for several hundred pages)

But something tells me that Monday I’ll see Queequeg’s coffin floating by to give me hope that not all of the problems we’re facing are hopeless.

  5. Renee,  until 3-5 years ago I also had a Box number as an address – the complete address was a Rural Route and box number.  To make it easier for emergency responders to respond to 911 calls, the county and P.O. finally got around to giving streets actual names and converting the box numbers to street addresses, but it took over 2 years for the conversion to catch on.  I must admit that while it’s less anonymous, I like the sound of Golf Course Drive more than Rural Route 3, but the mail lady still delivers mail to the wrong mailboxes in our corner of East Bumfuck, so who knows where the cops will go if I have to call 911.

  6. And in case you missed it, reported on 11/25 by AOL D’ump’s on the wrong end of one Federal voting rights lawsuit –

The Trump campaign has repeatedly attempted to use the judicial system to overturn the president’s defeat to President-elect Joe Biden, filing more than two dozen unsuccessful lawsuits since Election Day.

But the president’s campaign now finds itself on the other side of a legal case in a newly filed federal lawsuit alleging that it violated the Voting Rights Act of 1965 when it sought to “disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters,” particularly African Americans in metropolitan areas of Michigan.

“It’s not even about the success of President Trump and the Trump campaign’s attempts to overturn the election,” Monique Lin-Luse, assistant counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, which filed the lawsuit, told Yahoo News. “The very attempt … to overturn it by disenfranchising and de-legitimizing Black voters is what we believe is unlawful, and it’s also dangerous and corrosive to our democracy.”

The lawsuit, filed Friday in a Washington, D.C., federal court, was brought on behalf of the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization and three Detroit residents over Trump’s apparent efforts to sway local officials in Wayne County, Mich., and state legislators to hold off on certifying votes or interfere in the electoral process.

President Trump met with Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield and Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey at the White House on Friday in what was viewed as an attempt by Trump to convince the GOP legislators to cooperate with a plan to override the will of voters in Michigan.

The lawmakers said after the meeting that they intend to “follow the law” regarding the selection of Michigan’s electors. Shirkey told the Associated Press that Trump talked about Michigan election results with them, but added that the meeting was harmless, the AP reported Tuesday.

    Continues…

Feel free to insert a pithy 2 word directive to Dumbass here.

  7. tRUMP even F-ed up “Op Warp Speed,” by not securing more vaccine from Pfizer when he had the opportunity to do so.  Those 100 million doses only cover 50 million folks, as it’s a two-dose regimen.
It’s time for the murderous idiot to flee.  Those who still support him, like Yertle and Tedious, should be charged with treason for propping up a traitor.

  8. business insider:

Donald Trump has been branded “loser of the year” by one of Europe’s biggest news magazines, as President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were named Time Magazine’s “Person[s] of the Year.”
Der Spiegel, one of Germany’s most widely read German-language news websites, published a long article in German about the president under the headline “Der Verlierer des Jahres,” which translates as “The Loser of the Year.”
The article, published on Thursday, criticised the president for refusing to concede the election to Biden and described him as “a man who … was never concerned with the common good, but always with one thing – himself.”
“Nothing is normal under Trump,” the article, written by the publication’s Washington bureau chief and a Berlin-based correspondent, said.
“He refuses to admit defeat. Instead, he speaks of massive electoral fraud, although there is no evidence for it. The whole thing is not surprising. Trump’s presidency ends as it began. Without decency and without dignity.”

Not that I can say much I’ve let my beard grow wild and wooly. It does mean I have to dress better so I’m not confused with the local homeless.

  10. not as good as headlining him “Loser of the Year” here are only 3 of the many Der Spiegel’s covers depicting D’ump

  11. from that der spiegel quote above, a line worthy of repeating often:

“Trump’s presidency ends as it began. Without decency and without dignity.”

  12. So what did the FDA chief say? Something while laughing like, “So fire me, this is a thankless fricking job anyway”.
Being fired by Trump these days is a reward not a punishment.
    Jack

  13. In 40 years this is the longest I’ve grown my beard. Most times it gets all scraggly looking but so far….
I think it will take another year to reach ZZ Top lengths. But if it wasn’t for Covid I could play Santa.

  15. CNN just reported that the Supreme Court of the United States said Texas did not have the right to file the big one and kicked him out of the court.

OK dumbass you lost now get out of our house.

  16. FROM CNN

CNN)The Supreme Court rejected a bid from Texas’ attorney general — supported by President Donald Trump — to block the ballots of millions of voters in battleground states that went in favor of President Elect Joe Biden.

Bottom line – it’s over. YOU LOST. GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR HOUSE, ASSHOLE.

  17. The  Trump base will never leave him
these are the same people who think Hillary Clinton runs a child pornography ring out of the basement of a pizza restaurant in DC
they will never leave someone who says it is ok to be a racist and all the other groups of people they hate

  18. If economically-marginalized, white folks are doing better in four years, they might not vote against the side of their bread that’s buttered.

  19. KGC
I agree with you! The GOP base won’t leave Trump. Trump is a Paper Tiger. Eventually, the older he gets his madness will overtake him. He’s on a killing spree now of mostly black men. It’s as if he enjoys it. I think he does. I hope I see him get his comeuppance. I will do a happy dance and make a double Martini.

  20. HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!  She’s back. Sarah Palin is in GA campaigning for the two repug candidates. The dem chances just went up 2%.

  21. I’m disappointed, I was really looking forward to Ted Cruz arguing this case. Oh well there will be other opportunities for him to make a fool of himself.
    Jack

  22. renee, your GOPers there really take seriously that “live free or die” motto or at least they did until their new house speaker kicked the bucket.

    wapo:

At a news conference Thursday, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) lauded Hinch as a “tireless leader” and described him as a close friend, calling his death a “cautionary tale” about the costs of failing to wear a mask. Sununu lashed out at other Republican legislators for flouting masks at large gatherings.

“For those who are just out there doing the opposite just to make some ridiculous political point, it is horribly wrong,” Sununu said. “Please use your heads. Don’t act like a bunch of children, frankly.”

Other state Republicans were even harsher in their condemnation of their colleagues who had opposed health guidelines.

“Those in our caucus who refused to take precautions are responsible for Dick Hinch’s death,” state Rep. William Marsh (R), a retired doctor, wrote on Twitter.

Hinch’s death comes as New Hampshire grapples with its worst surge since the beginning of the pandemic. In the past week, daily reported cases rose 22 percent and deaths grew 20 percent, according to The Washington Post’s coronavirus tracker. Covid-related hospitalizations also increased by 59 percent.

  23. OK. First point of interest:  They’re  having a PARTY.  Idiots.
Second, need ta know:  Has SFB been sedated?  If he tweets up a storm in the wee, small hours… depending  on the TM Twitter brigade for updates.

  24. Just found this on a day old thread posted By Sweety on November 18.
    I know I missed it.

This is xrepulica’s wife writing to you all. He has been taken to Regions Hospital in St Paul. We have been managing Covid symptoms (both of us) for several days. His blood oxygen level dropped to 83 and that alone is a red flag that he is in distress. He will be off-line with you all for a while, and I am sure he will be delighted to talk with you as soon as he is able. Please intentionally pray for his complete recovery. I appreciate your close ties to one another. What happens in politics is important, and what ultimately matters is that we Love one another as we are Loved in real time and in concrete ways. Go do that with the people you love and with people you are not so fond of. No need to reply.

  25. Thanks, Jack- missed that, also, but remember passing out that night.

i’ll try to be nicer to my Republican neighbor for Sweetie, even though he is a complete moron.

    Thanks for the education, xrep
