Gravity

But in regard to Uncle Joe, one can also define gravity as a force of interaction with other bodies and/or his seriousness and solemnity in things important to people and to the nation.

Prime example in his speech from the Oval Office last night:

“There were extreme voices threatening to take America, for the first time in our 247 year history, into default on our national debt. Nothing. Nothing would have been more irresponsible. Nothing would have been more catastrophic.”

“No one got everything they wanted, but the American people got what they needed.”

Utah schools remove the Bible after someone challenges new book law – The Washington Post

    […]
After a state law allowing school districts to pull “pornographic or indecent” books from schools was passed last year, someone in the Davis School District submitted a complaint about the King James Bible, arguing the text was “pornographic by our new definition.”
A school district committee determined that the Bible was not age-appropriate for elementary and middle-schoolers, though it ruled that the text does not contain the type of “sensitive material” the law seeks to keep out of schools.
The Bible was pulled from seven or eight elementary and middle schools and will stay in high school libraries, Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams said via email. The decision has been appealed by another person in the district.
The Bible’s journey through the Davis School District review process, the semester after Utah’s new law made it one of the states with the most book removals, comes amid a national surge in efforts to restrict what students read. To supporters of the Utah law, the outcome was a signal of the system properly functioning; to opponents of book banning, it showed the flaws.
“It does illustrate how even a text of world historical importance can, through the current prism of how books are being evaluated, wind up in this prohibited pile of books,” said Jonathan Friedman, a director at the free-speech advocacy organization PEN America.
Lawmakers who’d backed the law didn’t strongly object to the removal, indicating that the ability to pull books was more important than the loss of the Bible from school library shelves. State Sen. Todd Weiler (R), who sponsored the bill in the Senate, said he hoped the district’s decision would be overturned, but he called the Bible’s removal a “fair trade” for the removal of other books containing what he described as “explicit X-rated content.”

hmm, guess next they’ll scratch the 6th, 9th and 10th off their 10 commandments hanging on the walls and of course prohibit any discussion about a certain guy who travelled about with a prostitute.

“Trump-appointed judge rejects Tennessee’s anti-drag law as too broad, too vague”

“The law is both “unconstitutionally vague and substantially overbroad” and encouraged “discriminatory enforcement,” according to the ruling late Friday by U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump.”

“Simply put, no majority of the Supreme Court has held that sexually explicit — but not obscene — speech receives less protection than political, artistic, or scientific speech,” he said.

  9. It was bad enough when it was bad enough when it was suggested that Oprah would be a good senator. Now the three goopers in California are hoping Steve Garvey would be a good senator oy vey — he would be the Tommy Tuberville of California  The Dem to stupid people in Cal is 2:1  the Republicans have zero chance of winning — it would be a big shock if there was a Republican still in the race for the run-off.

“As India’s population this year overtakes that of China, the unrealized ambitions of its innumerable youth – more than half of its 1.4 billion people are under the age of 30 – can burden the wider world if left unaddressed.”

“Shut out of the traditional labour market, the alternatives India’s working-age youth are exploring will forecast the future of work globally.”

“For perhaps the first time in history, we see a peculiar combination: the emergence of a large youth population that is ambitious and tech-savvy, against the backdrop of a shrinking job market and rapidly transforming internet.”

“While India’s market for legitimate jobs in the technology sector expands, recruiters complain of a talent shortage that goes back to the lack of relevant education and skills training outside of elite campuses.”

“Even if more job seekers were upskilled, the IT industry, which currently employs around 5.1 million people, could only accommodate a fraction of the 4.75 million Indians who enter the labor force every year.”

“Disinformation is no longer a problematic aspect of the Indian internet, but a defining feature. Hate speech, fake news and deep fakes are posted and shared more frequently than ever before.”

“Neither willing to alienate their key user base nor prepared to take on the Indian government, social media companies have done little to counter the hate circulating on their platforms in multiple languages.”

“Given their seeming lack of incentive to crack down, what is happening in India today can easily be replicated in any other place with a faltering democracy, cheap internet, and a large young population forced into idleness.”

  11. Word to the wise – if in your refrigerator is a bag/box/glob of refried beans with chilies, that is at or over two weeks old, do not, repeat: do not, eat them.  Bad things happen.  UUhh, bad things happen.

    IOWA

“GOP presidential candidates stay on message at Roast and Ride in Iowa; attack Biden, not Trump”

“Former President Donald Trump, who remains the front-runner, was the only major candidate not present, but his rivals for the GOP nomination declined to take the opportunity to directly attack him — or even mention his name.”

“Volunteers and staff from the campaign roamed the event at the Animal Learning Center, planting Trump signs, donning T-shirts and manning a booth alongside the rest of the campaigns.”

    Unlike, MAGAts, animals can learn.

“Their messages echoed nearly identical themes: Unity, patriotism and American exceptionalism. Their objective was uniform: Defeating President Joe Biden and America’s “woke” left.”

“…Republican challengers used their time to familiarize themselves with voters and outline their priorities. They talked about their upbringings, their parents, the value of hard work and how America is a country of opportunity, not racism.”

“Pence, who is expected to formally enter the race next week in Iowa, was the sole candidate to join Ernst on the ride from Big Barn Harley-Davidson. He donned his own leather vest…”

    Or, riding around.
