Go Russian Protesters. We’re On Your Side!

I’m no foreign policy expert but I’d like to see President Biden somehow send a direct message to the Russian people that we stand with their courageous efforts to end Putin’s corrupt dictatorship.

Time to FU Putin big time. You wanna mess with our elections? We’re gonna take your ass out for good.

  1. as we are rooting for the protestors against putin now, were vlad’s vassals on jan 6th similarly cheering on the  D.C. insurrectionists?

alternate realities at play in this strange world  of what’s up is down and down is up

  2. the guardian:

Police have paralysed the centres of Russia’s largest cities, including Moscow, as the Kremlin sought to beat back rallies in support of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the country’s most significant protests in a decade.
Supporters of the Kremlin critic took to the streets to protest against his jailing, despite the biting cold and threat of arrest. At least 5,100 people, including Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalnaya, were detained as the rallies across the country entered a second week.
Taking unprecedented security measures, riot police and national guards troops shut down seven central metro stations in Moscow and blocked off streets to prevent a repeat of last week’s record protests, some of the largest since 2012.
UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab accused authorities of detaining people “simply for expressing their dissent”, adding: “We condemn the Russian authorities’ indiscriminate and arbitrary arrest of peaceful protesters and journalists.
The unsanctioned protests deteriorated into a cat-and-mouse game as riot police armed with batons and stun guns pursued protesters through the capital. The hours-long chase was punctuated by clashes and brutal arrests. One man was severely injured after dousing himself with petrol and setting himself on fire, apparently in an act of protest. He was hospitalised in critical condition.
The threat of arrests and violence appeared to reduce the numbers in Moscow compared with last week. Forced out of the centre, a crowd of thousands chanting “Putin is a thief” marched toward Moscow’s Komsomolskaya Square, a major rail artery outside the security cordons, as police in body armour made hundreds of arrests.
Behind them sped dozens of armoured police vans used for mass arrests. “Moscow looks like a fortress today,” said Maria Lazareva, a protester who found herself trapped between two lines of riot police just off of Komsomolskaya Square. “They can stop us when there are not enough of us but as more come it’s going to be impossible to keep us penned in.”
    […]
Police in St Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city, took similar security precautions, shutting down Nevsky Prospekt, the city’s main avenue, to prevent protesters from gathering there. But thousands still gathered on sidestreets and faced off with riot police, who beat truncheons against their metal riot shields in an effort to scare off crowds calling for Navalny’s release. The crowds responded by clapping.

  3. And now this:

On Sunday evening, Trump’s office announced in a statement that Atlanta-based trial attorney David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor Jr., a former district attorney in Montgomery County, Pa., would lead his defense team. The two lawyers will bring “national profiles and significant trial experience in high-profile cases to the effort,” the statement said.

Schoen previously served as a lawyer for Trump adviser Roger Stone when he sought to appeal his conviction for lying and witness tampering in a congressional investigation. He also was in discussions with financier Jeffrey Epstein about representing him days before his death while awaiting sex-trafficking charges and has said he does not believe Epstein killed himself. During his time as district attorney, Castor had declined to prosecute actor Bill Cosby and was later sued by accuser Andrea Constand in a case that was settled.

    Fitting.

  4. I am tired of the media saying “president”SFB instead of former something.  I am tired of the media showing pictures of SFB sullying the WH instead down in Florida.  In fact, I am tired of the media even mentioning the Russian stooge at all.  The only thing that should be put out is a simple sentence “SFB is in Florence Colorado for life”.  And, nothing more.

  5. BB

We really, really need a thumbs up.  Media coverage is still exhausting.  Joe Biden is the President of the US.  Trumpsky is an after thought at best.

  6. Navalny knew he had to go back to Rusher.  Returning after a murder attempt let them know that to have a democracy will take sacrifice from more than just himself.

  7. President Biden shouldn’t negotiate with the terrorists (Republicans) who are holding help for for the American people hostage.  51!!!

I would actually like to see the ten Senators who still have souls send a message to President Biden. They should let him know they will vote with Dems and send a message to the seditionists, who number far more than six.

  8. it’s kumbaya time, folks

    the hill:

A group of GOP senators will meet with President Biden on Monday after pitching their own coronavirus relief framework.
“We appreciate the President’s quick response to our letter, and we are pleased to accept his invitation to the White House tomorrow afternoon to discuss the path forward for the sixth bipartisan Covid-19 relief package,” the GOP senators said in a joint statement.
The group includes GOP Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Bill Cassidy (La.), Mitt Romney (Utah), Rob Portman (Ohio), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), Todd Young (Ind), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Mike Rounds (S.D.) and Thom Tillis (N.C.).
White House press secretary Jen Psaki disclosed on Sunday night that Biden had spoken to Collins, who he previously served with in the Senate and who has taken the lead in trying to jumpstart bipartisan negotiations on the next round of coronavirus relief, and invited her and the other nine GOP senators to the White House.
    […]
In addition to speaking to Collins, Psaki said that Biden spoke with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Sunday.
“He is grateful that Congress is prepared to begin action on the American Rescue Plan in just his second full week in office,” she said.

    joe at today’s meeting:
What would you think if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

  9. 1st shots across the bow of the good ship “Compromise” as reported in the Hill :

Many Republicans and some centrist Democrats say any additional payments need to be more targeted toward lower-income households, arguing they are most in need of relief and are more likely to spend the money quickly, providing a boost to the economy.

    […]

Biden has signaled he is open to discussing income limits for additional checks in his $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package. The wide-ranging proposal does not specify any income eligibility requirements for new $1,400 payments.

“There’s legitimate reason for people to say, ‘Do you have the lines drawn the exact right way? Should it go to anybody making over X number of dollars or Y?” the president said last week. “I’m open to negotiate those things.”

    […]

The relief package that the 10 Senate Republicans are planning to put forth is expected to cost around $600 billion — less than one-third of Biden’s proposal — and is likely to include direct payments of $1,000 rather than $1,400, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) indicated in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the income recipient thresholds would be $50,000 for individuals and $100,000 for married couples.

  10. george on the lawyer problem for he-who-shall not -be-named

    mediaite:

George Conway offered some less than flattering reasons why former President Donald Trump had a relatively late staffing change for the legal team hired to defend him in the Senate impeachment trial over his alleged role in the Capitol’s deadly insurrection on January 6th.
The vocal critic of Trump, and husband to Senior White House advisor Kellyanne Conway, appeared onMorning Joe and was asked by co-host Mika Brzezinski to opine on news thatTrump is changing his legal defense team less than two weeks out.
    […]
Conway did not demur in his response. “His instability and inability to be rational has always caused him difficulty in retaining lawyers,” he noted, citing past examples of Trump retaining legal counsel during the Mueller investigation, and again for thefirst impeachment trial.
“He’s always had trouble getting lawyers to represent him,” Conway explained. “He’s not a very good client. He doesn’t take advice very well. He’s unpredictable. And he doesn’t pay his bills.”
“So it’s not surprising that he’s had trouble here maintaining counsel,” he continued. “It’s not surprising that he’s asking them to violate the rules of professional ethics by making factually unfounded arguments saying he won the election. And not surprising that a week before the impeachment trial, he had to go out and find another pair of lawyers.

so i assume bythat george thinks the 2 new hired guns have no qualms when it comes  “to violate the rules of professional ethics.”
on the not paying their fees charge, it might be worthwhile to find out just who will be paying the new mouthpieces. bff putie?

  11. craig, at least these guys/gals will be according to NBC:

“… members of the House who act as trial lawyers, will be sworn in on Tuesday …”

so the hired guns should be as well.  level playing field players so to speak

  12. It’ll be interesting to see how this all shakes out in Russia….  unfortunately….  I’m sure there will be plenty of bloodshed in the immediate future.

Yeah…  I was talking to Rick at breakfast a few days ago about how the media seems to not get that Biden is now president.  We were talking about how the media needs a “boogeyman” to keep us all riled up.  Yeah they still mention the former asshole…  but they have made Marjorie Taylor Greene into their new darling.

  13. renee, you’re right about the media’s “boogeyman” currently being ms. Q (she’s truly a miscue too).

as of last night’s 60 minutes story on DNA  they seem to have added china to the list. they all were at it on them this a.m.

  14. I disagree that media ignoring Biden. His speeches, WH daily press briefings all carried live on every cable news channel, and much discussed. Administration officials constantly on interview shows. Joe’s message is getting out just fine and his approval ratings top of the charts.

And the more Trump also gets attention the worse for Republicans in 2022 midterms.

  15. Craig…  I agree with you about Greene being good for the Dems in 2022.  It’s just that after 4 years of being outraged…  I wanted to have peace and quiet with a good dose of boring thrown in for a little while.  I find the best way to achieve this is to turn off the news and stick my nose in a good book.

  16. “the more Greene is the face of the GOP the better for Dems”

craig, that’s what donny deutch thinks.  he suggested referring to her as MTG instead of rep. greene (don’t validate her with the congressional honorific) and making her the dem’s equivalent icon of evil to what AOC is for the gopers.

  17. George has hit the nail on the head – Violation of Rule 11, RPC, Not taking advice, unpredictable client, not paying bills.  Kinda sums up the nightmare client very well.

  18. The stimulus checks are helping folks with higher incomes.  As Chucky T noted on MTP yesterday, a large number of folks had to borrow from their 401(k) just to keep the house.  Yes, they were lucky they had savings, but if they aren’t included in the next round of stimulus checks, they may have to take out more…if they have more to take out.  Also, the cost of living has not gone down; it has gone up.  Paychecks, if you’re lucky enough to have one, are smaller.

  19. Republicans don’t want to understand that there will be no middle class, it will just be the 1% and everyone else scrambling not to lose ground.

  20. Q-Anon is not Q.  It’s P.  P Anon.  Proof = 17, eh?  Putin’s birthday = October 7, 1952  = 10 &  7 =17 and 1 & 9 & 5 &   2 = 17. Q Anon is backed by Putin.

  21. Irony, Russians are trying to oust a dictator.  Some US seditionists are trying to install  a dictator.

  22. john dean suggested on cnn that instead of the whole senate taking up valuable time (needed to address pandemic/economic crisis of the moment) they make use of rule 11 to set up an impeachment trial  committee to try him-who-shall-not-be named.  since he is no longer a president, in dean’s opinion, the senate as a whole doesn’t have to hear it but merely treat it as it would any other former official.

  23. Hmmm, I wonder why the goops are pushing voting restrictions in those 3 states, instead of, say, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi?

  24. politico:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has delivered an ultimatum to McCarthy: Either Republicans move on their own to strip Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee assignments within 72 hours, or Democrats will bring the issue to the House floor.

    […]

The precise path that Democrats would take to remove Greene from those committees is not yet determined, but party leaders have several options.

“Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene must be held accountable for her reprehensible statements, and I am discussing with members the best course of action to do so,” Hoyer said through a spokesperson Monday.

On a leadership call on Sunday, top Democrats discussed a straightforward motion that would go through the House Rules Committee. That would be separate from a resolution led by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), which would also remove the Georgia Republican from any House panel slots.

  25. The blonde hypocrite from nw Georgia has walked back her assertion that school shootings are all staged
plus she only harassed David Hogg once she knew he was a legal adult

    WTF

  26. I’m guessing McCarthy is more afraid of the batshit crazy Q-idiot woman and the batshit crazy racist idiot ex president than he is of the majority leader of the House and that Steny and Nancy will have to put up or shut up about the Q chick. Oh, and by the way, pass a rule that will not allow any member either with a gun or who does not pass through the magnetometers in the Capitol into the House chamber and that no member who does such shit will not be recognized on the floor or have a vote recorded in either committee or on the floor of the chamber. Grow some fucking balls fuhchrissake.

  27. KGC

What I got from the MTG response is that she knows what makes her famous, rich or employed and is using the nonsense of others to achieve all three goals.  Since that makes her provably dishonest, she should be censured and expelled.

  28. Recommendation:  I am currently reading a short book that should be titled “Everything Could be worse”, but is actually named What If?  Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe

Laugh out loud funny if you ignore what ifs such as “What If the Earth Stopped Spinning?”.

  29. One more BS Dumbass anti-science rule goes away.

A federal judge on Monday vacated the Trump administration rule limiting which scientific studies the Environmental Protection Agency can use in crafting public health protections, overturning one of the last major actions taken by the agency before President Biden took office.

The ruling by Judge Brian Morris, chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, Great Falls, marked a victory for environmental groups and public health advocates. Just two weeks before Biden’s inauguration, EPA finalized a rule requiring researchers to disclose the raw data involved in their public health studies before the agency could rely upon their conclusions.

The rule, which was made effective immediately, would assign less weight to studies built on medical histories and other confidential data from human subjects where the underlying information was not revealed. That sort of research — including dose-response studies, which evaluate how much a person’s exposure to a substance increases the risk of harm — have been used for decades to justify EPA regulations.
(Continues in a similarly sane manner)

Thank god there’s a few decent judges out there. And Wheeler is a fugging idiot.

  30. OM – Have you forgotten Jan 6th, already?  Five were killed and many more were injured…and, it would’ve been worse if tRUMPsky’s mob had found members of Congress.   Oh, and now Ted Cruz and his traitorous cohorts want AOC to apologize for speaking out about what went on and those traumatized by it.

You bring up a good point, though. When kids go back to school, will the divisions that have been exposed show up there and result in violence?

  31. Craig , I click the email link , and I get zip/  email me .
This railroad battle is getting really interesting.  The Surface Transportation Board has stepped in.

  32. Biden  receiving  the 10 GOP  senators ,  a first .
Now, he can drop the $15 dollar an hour.  Which is needed, but crazy at this point.

  33. OM, take gatherings away and mass shootings become a lot of work. Voila, mass shootings go away. Mass murderers are lazy.

  34. This fight in Colorado is a big deal ,  Trains or no Trains.
Pete showed a 3rd way.  I am just pointing out  what he said.
Pete’s idea  makes money  for everyone . If I can sell it.
A . Every city from Eagle  to Pueblo  forms an alliance.
    B. They all realize  this river ,and it’s tracks  Knit all of them together.
    C.  This rail line  will change American Tourism

  35. The “Bleachers” , Trumps’ new party!
You have to ingest  bleach, to join  .
Ms.  Greene  needs to answer this question.  Has she got a shot of bleach yet ?

  36. Ms. Greene needs to understand her gun  will not kill Covid.
And like the climate , it does not care about what she believes.
Nature does not give a rats fuzzy butt  about her views.

  37. Biden’s hammer is bigger than we think, and he will use it.
That 10 trip was a huge sign , a plea not a threat.  They need him more , than he needs them.
Now ram the bill through .
Fuck em’.  These are the people  that brought us slavery and child labor.
    Fuck em  ‘
