Megan Rapinoe, the co-captain of the world champion U.S. Womenâs Soccer Team, is a local hero who has made a big mark on the international stage with her athletic prowess, her flamboyant joy on the football pitch and her uncompromising disdain for President Donald Trump.
In an interview prior to the start of the Womenâs World Cup, Rapinoe said, if the team came out on top and were invited to pay a visit to the president, âIâm not going to the fâing White House.â At various times the soccer star has called Trump âsexist,â âmisogynistic,â âsmall-minded,â âracistâ and ânot a good person,â while describing herself as âa walking protest when it comes to the Trump administration.â
Rapinoe and her teammates are role models for millions of American girls, which will sit well with most parents in Seattle. In Trump-loving areas of the state and country, though, mom and dad are bound to be appalled.

ironic isn’t it that the old derogatory phrase “ball busting women” has new meaning now.Â
The US womenâs soccer co-captain Megan Rapinoe has delivered an uncompromising message to Donald Trump, amid ongoing controversy over a possible visit to the White House by the World Cup champions.
Asked by CNNâs Anderson Cooper what she would like to say to the American leader, Rapinoe said: âYour message is excluding people. Youâre excluding me, youâre excluding people that look like me, youâre excluding people of colour, youâre excluding Americans that maybe support you.â
[âŚ]
Rapinoe expressed regret for excessive swearing but stood by her decision to turn down a visit to the White House.
âI would not go, and every teammate that Iâve talked to explicitly about it would not go,â she said.
âI donât think anyone on the team has any interest in lending the platform that weâve worked so hard to build, and the things that we fight for, and the way that we live our life ⌠I donât think that we want that to be co-opted or corrupted by this administration,â Rapinoe told Cooper.
She added that allowing the White House to âput us on displayâ didnât âmake sense for us at allâ, adding: âThere are so many other people that I would rather talk to and have meaningful conversations that could really affect change in Washington than going to the White House.â
The sports star added the US needed to have a âreckoningâ with the implications of Trumpâs Make America Great Again slogan. âYouâre harking back to an era that was not great for everyone â it might have been great for a few people, and maybe America is great for a few people right now, but itâs not great for enough Americans in this world.â
She added: âYou have an incredible responsibility as the chief of this country to take care of every single person, and you need to do better for everyone.â

Of course the far right hates those women’s guts…. Â which to me means they are on the correct path.
I forgot that Megan Rapinoe was appearing last night on Rachel’s show. Â I’ll find the interview on MSNBC’s website later today.

Yes, Renee, you do want to find and watch it. It was a good interview. Although itâs faint praise Meghan is a lot more articulate than SFB could ever hope to be.Â
She’s great and wants to do more! I hope she runs for office someplace.

NY Times:Â Â âIt Could Have Been Any of Usâ: Disdain for Trump Runs Among Ambassadors
WASHINGTON â Ask members of the Washington diplomatic corps about the cables that Sir Kim Darroch, the British ambassador who resigned Wednesday, wrote to London describing the dysfunction and chaos of the Trump administration, and their response is uniform: We wrote the same stuff.
âYes, yes, everyone does,â GĂŠrard Araud, who retired this spring as the French ambassador, said on Wednesday morning of his own missives from Washington. âBut fortunately I knew that nothing would remain secret, so I sent them in a most confidential manner.â

âIt could have been any of us,â one ambassador, who is still serving and therefore spoke on the condition of anonymity, said on Wednesday.
Until Mr. Darrochâs confidential cables appeared in The Daily Mail over the weekend, none of the major ambassadors in Washington had been denounced by Mr. Trump as âwackyâ or âvery stupidâ â descriptors that the envoyâs friends were quick to say hardly applied to one of Britainâs most sophisticated diplomats and former national security advisers.

âThe fact that Sir Kim has been bullied out of his job because of Donald Trumpâs tantrums and Boris Johnsonâs pathetic lickspittle response is something that shames our country,â said Emily Thornberry, the British opposition Labour Partyâs shadow foreign secretary. âIt makes a laughingstock out of our government.â
She added, âJust imagine Churchill allowing this humiliating, servile, sycophantic indulgence of the American presidentâs ego to go unchallenged.â
