  2. Washington, DC (CNN)President-elect Joe Biden’s inaugural committee on Thursday announced that it is hosting a national memorial to remember and honor the lives lost to Covid-19 and is asking cities and towns around the country to participate.

    The memorial will take place at 5:30 p.m. ET on January 19 and will include a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, according to a news release from the Presidential Inauguration Committee.

    The committee says they are inviting cities and towns across the country “to join Washington, D.C. in illuminating buildings and ringing church bells at 5:30 p.m. ET in a national moment of unity and remembrance.”
    “The inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris represents the beginning of a new national journey,” said Pill Tobar, the communications director for the committee, in a statement Thursday.
    “However, in the midst of a pandemic — when so many Americans are grieving the loss of family, friends, and neighbors — it is important that we honor those who have died, reflect on what has been one of the more challenging periods in the nation’s history, and renew our commitment to coming together to end the pandemic and rebuild our nation.”

  3. back to thread topic, could it be D’ump is purposely taking vengeance on mitch as well as kemp by messing with the georgia GOPers or is it just another ploy to get an attention fix or to distract coverage away from joe, legal/financial problems and the fact he is a loser – or all the above.

The big fat orange loser left the Florida rat hole and moved back to the East Wing a day early.  Speculation was rampant around the Mall.  Why would SFB leave his adoring cult members?  Why avoid his fun night in front of a captive audience?  Why return to the White House with only his butt sniffing spawn?  CNN might have the reasons.  The main one is he can’t face the idiot and imbecile lovers because he is a loser.  This is the first time in his life he is forced to see himself as a loser.  Him and only him.  He wanted to be the dictator, there is only room for one dictator and he lost his job.  No scapegoats are available anymore.  History will show he lost, no matter how deep into conspiracy garbage he goes, at the surface he lost.  And, everybody knows he lost.  We can point fingers at the loser and laugh and laugh and laugh.  Happy New Year

  13. jack, speaking of cornbread, the batch i made last night (shhh, FROM A MIX not from scratch because too lazy) was the best i’ve had in awhile.  it was krusteaz honey cornbread & muffin mix but with a few tweaks: used butter instead of oil, cream instead of milk and baked in a buttered pre-heated iron skillet instead of the recommended 8×8 pan.    it’s sweeter than most so beware.

    I a moderate in the “sugar in your cornbread debate”. Jiffy mix is too sweet and Aunt Jemima has no sugar, so I have started mixing the two and get a corn bread I like.  Once in a while I will use straight Aunt Jemima as it comes close to the cornbread my Grandmother made. I like the cast iron skillet idea but most times I use a baking pan large enough to spread the cornbread out so it comes out thin and crunchy, about 1/2 inch thick.

  17. patd – I am sure he will be staying in bunker white house until he is dragged out.  supposedly he is going to do another Georgia rally but the last one was so stinking it is probable he won’t be very exciting. 

    Concerning how much national security knowledge SFB actually has in the brain sludge,  I do not think there is much in there.  He has not taken in a briefing in months or longer.  What he did receive was little drawings of situations.  The security agencies after his first weeks in and him giving up assets in the middle East probably made sure he did not get everything after that.  Putin may have given him a shopping list, but even that may not be filled.  Overall, I think he takes in only shiny objects he can tell someone just to show off.

    I’m sure there will be almost interminable discussions over what and how to clean up the crap Trump has left in his wake particularly now that all the “conservative budget hawks” have skyrocketed the national debt into the stratosphere. 

    Do you think that any of the GOP penny pinchers on anyone poor have figured out that money shoved in at the bottom gets spent and moves up the chain improving the economy as it goes?  Money shoved in at the top just sits there doing nothing creative for anyone.

    I buy my quick bread mixes from a Maine company called Stonewall Kitchens.  They are makers of specialty foods…  although they are a bit pricey.  Their jams, aioli, and barbecue sauces are great!

  21. I’m in need of buying a new computer…  this one is 10 yrs old.  I upgraded the operating system on it last week…  and I can no longer post political cartoons.
     
    I’ve been contemplating whether to stick with Macs or to buy a PC.  The Russian hack of Microsoft has made that decision easier.  When I’m ready to buy…  a new Mac it’ll be.

  22. Creative cooking during  snow storm.
    I had a ripe avacado that needed to be used but I was all out of chips or tortillas. So I toasted some cheap wheat bread spread it with my guacamole added a fried egg then topped it with a good green salsa made from New mexico, hatch chilis. put some orange brandy spiced with a bit of tequila in my last cup of coffee and I’m setting here in front of my office window, sipping on the coffee, watching it snow.

    I thought that was obvious, it is being digested. I think I’ve invented a new must do breakfast. 
    And all that good grease in the avacado neutralized all the bad grease in the bacon I had on the side so it was not only good but healthy too!
    It is probably so healthy that I should eat it instead of exercising.

  27. Cornbread?  I like the Zataran’s mixes, especially the jalapeño one. In fact I’ll be having it today with an Emeril recipe of pork (I’ll use tenderloin instead of chops), beans (black eyes instead of cannellini), greens (collards) and chorizo done as a stew. Liquids are chicken stock and white wine – I’ve got a bit of Chardonnay that needs to go, so it will be it. Different twist but all the required ingredients for a healthy and prosperous new year. And I’ll eat it watching Bama and Notre Dame slug it out this afternoon.

    There was an alternate suggestion to rename the bases after Medal of Honor winners.  There are quite a few American Indians on that list. The one that jusmps out for me on the below list is Pappy Boyington.
