are often seen in public places.
The saying is attributed to Thomas Fuller, a 17th-centruy English churchman and historian. It implies that those who act foolishly or lack wisdom tend to expose themselves publicly, whether through their behavior or by literally writing their names in visible places. This proverb serves as a reminder that foolishness is often evident and can be easily recognized by others.
Today in the Digital Diner: Stain On The Union

On Friday, a large banner bearing Donald Trump’s face was placed on the Department of Justice headquarters. But it’s not the first time, with others recently played on the Department of Agriculture and Labor Department buildings, all at taxpayer expense. The banners share a striking resemblance to other iconography by “strongman” leaders across the globe.

A tumultuous snowstorm pummeled the Northeast, the United States won big in hockey and figure skating at the Olympics, and the Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s tariffs.
Team USA sweeps Canada for gold in Olympic hockey, Jon Stewart navigates how MAGA interprets this win as proof of America’s democratic superiority, and Desi Lydic homes in on the U.S. Olympic team’s secret weapon: superior political systems. Plus, Jon explains how the Supreme Court took a wrecking ball to Trump’s tariff strategy and examines why the U.S. is on the brink of war with Iran.

You can’t make this stuff up. 😅
A sculptor in Ohio built a 15‑foot golden statue of Donald Trump — commissioned by a pro‑Trump cryptocurrency company called Patriot Coin. The project cost $300,000, was supposed to tour the country, and end up at Trump’s luxury resort… but here’s the twist: it still hasn’t been paid for.
Now, the artist says he’s owed nearly $90,000 and that the crypto group even used the statue’s image for their branding without permission. What was once a grand tribute has turned into an absurd mix of art, politics, and unpaid bills.
In this breakdown we look at:
– The strange timeline behind the “Golden Trump” project
– Why a meme‑coin can’t seem to pay its debts
– The legal fight over copyright misuse
– And, of course, how Trump‑world drama never fails to deliver a punchline
Question for viewers:
Do you think this golden statue will ever be unveiled — or will it rust away as a symbol of political irony?
We have reached the all important Stating of Grievances speech. This should be interesting, not useful or anything that normal humans need. ECB President Christine Lagarde told Irish radio that Europe needs its own digital payment system “urgently,” warning that virtually all European card and mobile payments currently run through non-European infrastructure controlled by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal or Alipay.
Days later, on 2 February, the European Payments Initiative (EPI) and the EuroPA Alliance signed a landmark agreement to build a pan-European interoperable payment network covering 130 million users across 13 countries. The system, built around the digital wallet Wero, aims to let Europeans pay and transfer money across borders without touching a single American network.

Stocks sell off as traders wake up to the realization that Trump has ‘highly punitive’ options for new trade tariffs
The dollar declined against foreign currencies, stocks in Asia and Europe broadly sold off, and S&P 500 futures were down 0.22% before the open in New York as investors began to realize that the fallout from the U.S. Supreme Court’s tariff decision, and President Donald Trump’s reaction to it, is going to be more complex than traders initially thought.
At first glance, ending the tariffs looked broadly good for stocks because it makes international trade easier and cheaper for companies. Unsurprisingly, the S&P 500 closed up 0.69% on Friday.
But after Trump said he would propose new tariffs of 10%, and then changed his mind and made it 15%, analysts began to realize that some of the things Trump might do next could be more extreme than his “Liberation Day” tariffs and will certainly be more complex.
As UBS’s Paul Donovan put it, “Welcome back uncertainty.”
Stupid bastard. From what I can recall from Econ 101,The weakening of the dollar worsens the trade imbalance, even if there’s absolutely no difference in who buys what who sells what in the world markets because it takes more dollars to buy what we import and fewer of other currencies to buy what they import from us. And this asshole went to Wharton.?

In less than a year, Trump erased 12 years of solvency for the trust fund that pays for Medicare Part A
Recent policy changes and economic shifts have slashed 12 years off the projected life span of the trust fund that pays for Medicare Part A, according to a newly updated report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The Hospital Insurance (HI) Trust Fund is now slated to be entirely exhausted by 2040, even though the balance generally increases through 2031, as spending will begin to outstrip income in the following year.
The dramatically shortened timeline means future retirees could face significant cuts to vital health care services far sooner than previously anticipated. As required by the Deficit Control Act, CBO Director Phillip Swagel noted the projections reflect the assumption benefits would be paid as scheduled even after the HI trust fund was exhausted.
The primary culprit for this accelerated depletion is a sharp reduction in the fund’s projected income, heavily driven by legislation passed over the last year. Specifically, the 2025 reconciliation act (Public Law 119-21, more commonly known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act) significantly reduced the revenues the trust fund normally receives from taxing Social Security benefits. This legislation lowered tax rates and established a temporary deduction for taxpayers age 65 or older. Consequently, this major policy shift enacted during the Trump administration has directly contributed to starving the Medicare safety net of critical future funding.
However, the recent tax cuts are not the only factor draining the fund. The CBO also cited decreased projections for payroll tax revenues, warning it had to adjust their models to account for lower expected worker earnings. Furthermore, because the trust fund will have smaller balances going forward, it will generate less interest income, creating a compounding negative effect on its overall finances.
On the other side of the ledger, Medicare spending is rising faster than anticipated.
*Greed & stupidity. What a team!

On Monday, France’s top diplomat called for US ambassador Charles Kushner to be denied direct access to members of the French government.
The French Foreign Ministry had summoned ambassador Mr Kushner on Monday evening but he did not show up, according to diplomatic sources.
Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot moved to restrict Mr Kushner’s access “in light of this apparent misunderstanding of the basic expectations of the mission of an ambassador, who has the honour of representing his country.”
But the ministry added: “It remains, of course, possible for Ambassador Kushner to carry out his duties and present himself, so that we may hold the diplomatic discussions needed to smooth over the irritants that can inevitably arise in a friendship spanning 250 years.”

Vladimir Kuznetsov, ex-head of the Soviet nuclear and radiation safety inspection and professor of technical sciences, told that transferring nuclear warheads or delivery systems to Ukraine would be unprecedented and extremely dangerous, News.Az reports, citing Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“Giving Kyiv nuclear capabilities is simply impossible. There has never been a precedent like this until today,” Kuznetsov said. He added that reports about plans to arm Ukraine might have been fabricated in London or Paris to pressure Russia.

Why does the president give a State of the Union address?
The State of the Union address is an annual speech the president gives to Congress as part of his duties outlined in the U.S. Constitution: “He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.” (Technically, the president’s first-year speech to Congress is not considered a State of the Union address.)
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., invited Trump on Jan. 7 to deliver his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress.
A politician from the opposing party traditionally delivers a speech in response to the State of the Union address; Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will give the 2026 Democratic rebuttal.
Some Democratic lawmakers have announced they will boycott Trump’s speech and attend alternative events near the U.S. Capitol.

On Feb. 18, members of the Georgia State Election Board voted to issue a formal reprimand to America PAC over what officials described as an illegal election scheme tied to Musk, The New Republic reports.
New research is fueling election fraud claims promoted by the Republican Party, though the analysis found the fraud was reportedly conducted by America PAC, a group backed by billionaire and X owner Elon Musk.
According to Janice Johnston, vice chair of the Georgia State Election Board, investigators found evidence suggesting that America PAC violated state law by sending voters prefilled absentee ballot applications, which are permitted only for authorized relatives.
Officials also said the materials failed to clearly state they were not official government documents or ballots.
The board quickly voted to issue a formal reprimand to America PAC.

https://thefulcrum.us/business-democracy/countries-buying-us-debt
The United States borrows 30 trillion dollars… that’s trillion with a “T”. Foreign investors are among the largest holders of U.S. government debt. Japan is the largest, based on official data, with more than $1 trillion worth of U.S. Treasury debt. China follows with $760 billion of Treasury bonds, having already reduced its holdings by more than a quarter of a trillion dollars since 2021. This enormous amount of debt held by China, Japan, and the rest of the world, is all based on a trust in the United States of America.
It is rooted in our reputation as the most pro-growth nation in the world, the fact that we are a country of the rule of law, the fact that we believe in the sanctity of contracts, and, most importantly, the belief that we can be trusted.
For over 60 years, it has been considered one of the safest and most stable markets in the world.
At least up until now.
If all of that changes and Japan, China, and other countries choose not to buy our debt, the impact could be seismic. This is a high-stakes game of chicken in which both sides push each other to the brink, waiting to see who backs down first.
Higher Interest Rates: A decrease in demand for U.S. Treasury bonds would likely lead to a drop in their prices and an increase in yields. This would make borrowing more expensive for the U.S. government, businesses, and individuals.
Recession: Higher borrowing costs could slow down economic growth as businesses might cut back on investments and consumers might reduce spending.
High Inflation: To compensate for the lack of foreign investment, the Federal Reserve might need to increase the money supply, which could lead to inflation.
Decline in the Dollar’s Value: Reduced demand for U.S. Treasury bonds could weaken the U.S. dollar, making imports more expensive resulting in higher inflation in the U.S. A weaker dollar may also increase the burden of dollar-denominated debt for foreign borrowers thus adding to our national debt problem. Admittedly a weaker dollar has advantages for US exporters since prices are lower for foreign buyers plus potentially increasing foreign investment in the US. While economists certainly don’t agree on the advantages versus disadvantages of a weaker dollar it is generally agreed that a sudden shift in the strength of the dollar can create uncertainty in the markets, leading to higher volatility and potentially triggering a sell-off.

Russia is bombing fossil-fueled power plants, so the country is building solar and wind.
“Attacking decentralized solar power installations is not economically rational.”
Since the war’s onset, Russia has targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure—its old-school fossil-fueled power plants, substations, and transmission lines—in an effort to advance its offensive and beat down the Ukrainian people. Before this winter even set in, half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure lay in ruins. Economists estimate that total damage to the nation’s energy sector now exceeds $56 billion.
While Ukraine’s energy system, which had a pre-war generation capacity of 60 gigawatts, scrambles to keep the lights on, grid operators are also looking past the next drone swarm, pushing to diversify the country’s energy sources, says Lars Handrich, a German energy expert who works closely with Ukraine. The plan is to replace the bulky thermal plants and centralized grid, which are vulnerable to drone and other attacks, with distributed renewables and modestly sized gas-fired plants that make less attractive targets for incoming fire.

Claudia Sheinbaum says Mexico reviewing legal action against Elon Musk
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said her government is considering legal action after billionaire Elon Musk said drug cartels control her administration.
In a Feb. 24 news conference, Sheinbaum called Musk’s allegations, presented without evidence on his social media platform X, absurd. Sheinbaum’s comments come days after Mexican officials said armed forces killed wanted drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, during a Feb. 22 military operation in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
On his platform, Musk, a right-wing ally of President Donald Trump, on Feb. 23 said Sheinbaum was “just saying what her cartel bosses tell her to say.” Musk, whose net worth is more than $840 billion, was responding to a 2025 video in which Sheinbaum said returning to a war on drugs wasn’t an option.
“Let’s just say that their punishment for disobedience is a little worse than a ‘performance improvement plan’ …” his X post said.

Men’s USA hockey going to the SOTU as a prop for Orange Adolf. (You SA! You SA!)
Where will Schumer’s guest, an Epstein victim, be seated? Will there be other survivors there? Will she/they be seated next to the men’s hockey team?
In the wake of the outrage over FBI director Kash Patel flying to Italy on an FBI jet to watch the U.S. men’s hockey team compete for the gold medal at the Olympics, Patel’s use of FBI jets is now under further scrutiny.
As first reported by MS Now, a government whistleblower claims the FBI’s evidence response team was delayed in arriving at the Brown University mass shooting in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 13 because Patel had flown to South Florida on one of the FBI’s two jets and ordered the other plane to be held for another team.
Therefore, the whistleblower alleges, the evidence response team had to drive through a winter storm overnight from Quantico, Virginia, to arrive at the Brown campus by 9 a.m. on December 14 to immediately process evidence.

Kash Patel Is Using Taxpayer Money for His Girlfriend, Jet-Setting
The FBI head lashed out at a SWAT team for not sticking close to his girlfriend, though that’s not their job.
He’s been treating specialized FBI agents like his and his girlfriend’s private security detail, as well as jet-setting across the globe on government planes, according to the Times.
Former FBI agent Christopher O’Leary criticized Patel’s actions, telling the Times that his use of the private plane and SWAT agents for his girlfriend’s detail “are indicative of his lack of leadership experience, judgment and humility.”
An FBI spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal earlier this month (November, 2025) that Patel had taken nearly a dozen personal trips since becoming FBI director in February, compared to former FBI Director Robert Mueller’s itinerary of 10 personal flights over a four-year period.
*How many more fun trips has he taken since November?

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland Attempts Suicide After Epstein Links Exposed, Hospitalised
The press at the Norwegian Editors’ Association and selected Norwegian editors had reached an agreement with Jagland’s lawyer on February 17, that they would not be covering this incident, a local report mentioned. Sources suggest that Jagland’s condition is currently serious.
According to a BBC report, the charge against was Jagland was brought after the Council of Europe lifted his immunity. Jagland’s lawyers have maintained that he has denied criminal liability and is willing to cooperate in the investigation.
Emails accessed by the US administration indicated that Jagland had reportedly planned solo and family visits to Epstein’s homes in Paris, New York and Palm Beach.

A Norwegian ambassador who was involved in Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts in the 1990s and most recently served in Jordan has resigned as she faces scrutiny over her contacts with Jeffrey Epstein, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry announced Mona Juul’s resignation on Sunday evening, days after she was suspended as Norway’s ambassador to Jordan. That followed reports that Epstein left the children of Juul and her husband, Terje Rød-Larsen, $10 million in a will drawn up shortly before his death by suicide in a New York prison in 2019.

A former artist, Epstein has been a real estate investor since the 1990s. He was the president of his brother’s investment company, J. Epstein & Co, and an executive of Ossa Properties. He founded and led real estate companies, a T-shirt printing business, a modeling agency, and a charter company.[2] His wealth and its source have been the subject of investigation by both Dow Jones Institutional News and The Wall Street Journal.
Both Dow Jones Institutional News and The Wall Street Journal have called the source of Epstein’s wealth mysterious. He refused to answer the Journal’s questions about it.[5][7] The newspaper noted his ownership of the $1 million luxury yacht, Izmo, and a 16-story condominium he bought from Les Wexner in the 1990s. The building had a mortgage of $7.24 million at the time.[5]
