  1. I see this differently. Fauci is the only voice left in the scientific community on the administration advisory board who hasn’t compromised his integrity to remain on the board. Americans trust him and without him the face of the COVID group becomes who- Pence, Birx, Redfield, Giroir? They’ve all become water carriers for the Orange Clown. He needs to stay and force SFB to fire him or sideline him then hit all the Sunday shows and every show that will give him an interview then be hired by Biden to chair the recovery effort.

  2. Yes, let’s see if SFB has the balls to  fire the good doctor.   Don’t quit.  Force his tiny, tiny hand. SFB seemed very dejected yesterday.  They must’ve adjusted his meds or something.  It can’t be that he’s realized he’s caused the deaths of Americans, including those who may have voted for him. Between trying to force schools to reopen for in-person classes (exposing and killing children) and…well, hey that’s bad enough.
Do you suppose he’s pushing for school openings because it’s another distraction about how he still hasn’t done anything about bounties on our troops?
What distraction will he use if his taxes are released?  Yeee-gawdz, nukes?

  3. i share gary’s pain & anguish re luddite vs new technology

    from the guardian :

A few years ago, he decided to try working on the project with a digital tablet rather than with a pen.
“I got one, fired it up, and lo and behold, something totally unexpected happened: within moments, I was having fun drawing again. I was stunned at all the tools the thing offered, all the creative potential it contained. I simply had no idea how far these things had evolved,” he wrote. “Perhaps fittingly, the first thing I drew was a caveman.”
Learning how to draw digitally had been “a bit of learning curve”. He wrote: “I hail from a world of pen and ink, and suddenly I was feeling like I was sitting at the controls of a 747. But as overwhelmed as I was, there was still something familiar there – a sense of adventure. That had always been at the core of what I enjoyed most when I was drawing The Far Side, that sense of exploring, reaching for something, taking some risks, sometimes hitting a home run and sometimes coming up with ‘Cow tools’. (Let’s not get into that.)”
Larson was referring to one of his most confusing strips, Cow tools, in which a cow stands in front of a bizarre (and somewhat disturbing) array of tools. It proved so puzzling to fans when it was published in 1982 that the cartoonist was forced to issue a statement explaining that “the cartoon was intended to be an exercise in silliness. While I have never met a cow who could make tools, I felt sure that if I did, they (the tools) would lack something in sophistication and resemble the sorry specimens shown in this cartoon. I regret that my fondness for cows, combined with an overactive imagination, may have carried me beyond what is comprehensible to the average Far Side reader.”
For now, Larson said, he is having fun, “exploring, experimenting, and trying stuff” – although the new venture is not, he stressed, a resurrection of his daily deadlines.
“So here goes. I’ve got my coffee, I’ve got this cool gizmo, and I’ve got no deadlines. And – to borrow from Sherlock Holmes – the game is afoot,” he wrote.

  4. Trump’s Florida Convention Could Be The First That Actually Helps Lose A State

“If they move forward with that convention, with the numbers the way they are, people are just going to think they’re crazy,” said Kim Nymeyer, president of the North Pinellas County Democratic Club, adding that Trump’s insistence on holding an in-person coronation amid a pandemic gives her side yet another argument. “I do think Trump is taking the rope and hanging himself without any help from us.”

  5. Joy Reid Takes Nightly Anchor Slot at MSNBC

She becomes one of the few Black women to anchor a major American evening news program. The move was made by new leadership at NBC News, which runs the liberal-leaning cable network.

  6. New July 2020 Electoral College Ratings
    The Cook Political Report

This election is looking more like a Democratic tsunami than simply a Blue wave. President Trump, mired in some of the lowest job approval ratings of his presidency, is trailing Biden by significant margins in key battleground states like Pennsylvania (8 points), Michigan (9 points), and Wisconsin (9 points). He’s even running behind Biden in his firewall states of Florida and North Carolina.
We’ve made changes to our Electoral College ratings to reflect this reality.

  7. ‘I can do what I want!’ Angry woman threatens to sue dental office for asking her to wear a face mask
I was at Publix yesterday and most were wearing a mask but some weren’t. I feel if no mask no being checked out. It’s a New Smyrna Beach ordinance you must wear a mask. To Publix credit, they were every few minutes over sound system telling shoppers a mask is required.
One older lady not wearing a mask went the wrong way in an aisle. I was coming the right way and she said, geez I just can’t take all these rules especially when I don’t believe in COVID. I told her I know its tough on you and you can believe what you want to. I believe in Science I told her. She told me that God is looking out for her and said God bless you.😌

  8. “WE HAVE TO BE PREPARED FOR TRUMP LOSING”: AS CHAOS ENGULFS TRUMP CAMPAIGN, INGRAHAM, OTHER LOYALISTS LOOK FOR THE NEXT THING

A couple of weeks ago, Roger Ailes’s widow, Elizabeth, invited Fox News host Laura Ingraham and a few others for dinner at her $36 million Palm Beach home. The political conversation around the table was melancholy, a person familiar with the gathering recalled. With COVID cases hitting record highs and Donald Trump’s poll numbers going in the opposite direction, guests agreed that Trump is probably incapable, or unwilling, to take steps to turn things around. “We have to be prepared for Trump losing,” Ingraham told her dinner companions, according to the source. Perhaps anticipating that Fox News could pivot in a post-Trump media environment, Ingraham said she’s been in talks to take over for Rush Limbaugh, who recently revealed his Stage 4 lung cancer might force him off the radio. “Laura’s really interested in Rush’s job,” a person close to Ingraham said. (Ingraham did not respond to a request for comment.)

  9. Be interesting to see how Shep works out at CNBC.  As not a right wing nutjob acting like he’s doing the news straight up he should do fine.

  10. I agree with Pogo….  Fauci needs to stay.

So glad to see you here so often now, Tony.

  11. I’d love for SFB to explain how Black Lives Matter is a symbol of hate, as opposed to, say, the Confederate battle flag.

  12. SCOTUS just ruled against Trump in NY prosecutor tax case (sort of). President not immune from subpoena, but they sent it back to lower court for further consideration.

  13.

    Brian Stelter

    @brianstelter

Angela Merkel yesterday: “As we are experiencing first-hand, you cannot fight the pandemic with lies and disinformation any more than you can fight it with hatred or incitement to hatred… The limits of populism and denial of basic truth are being laid bare.” (via

    @dw_europe
    )

Lol, Merkel, I’d say trolling Trump!🤣

  14. Here’s a Wapo summary of the first case.

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a New York prosecutor is entitled to see President Trump’s private and business financial records, ending an intense legal battle waged by the president to keep them secret.

The court said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. had the authority to subpoena the records from Trump’s private accounting firm. Trump had claimed an immunity from criminal investigations while in office.
    (Continues)

Second decision – similar – 7-2 – Congressional committee must pass 4 factor test (or something like that) and that the scope of subpoena implicates separation of powers.   Bottom line – no one will see those tax returns until after the election.

  15. Trump’s Really Bad Bet The president’s vision of America is dissolving before his eyes. RONALD BROWNSTEIN

Donald Trump is running for the presidency of an America that no longer exists.
Trump in recent weeks has repeatedly reprised two of Richard Nixon’s most memorable rallying cries, promising to deliver “law and order” for the “silent majority.” But in almost every meaningful way, America today is a radically different country than it was when Nixon rode those arguments to win the presidency in 1968 amid widespread anti-war protests, massive civil unrest following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., white flight from major cities, and rising crime rates. Trump’s attempt to emulate that strategy may only prove how much the country has changed since it succeeded

  16. OMG.  Trump has to be fuming over this one.  From NYT:

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled by a 5-4 margin that nearly half of Oklahoma is an Indian reservation in the eyes of the criminal-justice system, preventing state authorities from prosecuting offenses there that involve Native Americans.
The decision was potentially one of the most consequential legal victories for Native Americans in decades. It was written by Justice Neil Gorsuch, a Westerner who has sided with tribes in previous cases and joined the court’s more liberal members.
“Today we are asked whether the land these treaties promised remains an Indian reservation for purposes of federal criminal law,” Justice Gorsuch wrote. “Because Congress has not said otherwise, we hold the government to its word.”
    (Continues)

Gorsuch is turning out to be exactly what tRump said he wanted and exactly the opposite of what he expected.

  17. NBC has been struggling to fill that 7pm MSNBC news position. I don’t sense an abundance of self-confidence in Ms Reid’s recent appearances to include her roll-out yesterday evening.

  18. Craig and Pogo…  thanks for the updates on the SC rulings.  I really think that once this election is over (and hopefully with Biden as the President-elect) that everything about trump will come out.  Stupid ass could have rode out his life with getting away with everything.  But his ego got the best of him….  he’ll rue the day he decided to run for prez…   putz!

  19. Flatus…  I’ve watched a bit of Reid and Kornacki.  I’m not really impressed with either of them.  Been mostly watching local New England shows at that time slot…. think I’ll stick with that plan until it gets closer to election time.

  20. Gen Powell just completed a wonderful interview on Andrea Mitchell’s noontime MSNBC show. He’s still the man I knew and admired and he still has his Democratic marbles (yeah, capital “D”).

  21. from  salon:

“No citizen, not even the president, is categorically above the common duty to produce evidence when called upon in a criminal proceeding,” Roberts wrote in the majority opinion. “We affirm that principle today and hold that the president is neither absolutely immune from state criminal subpoenas seeking his private papers nor entitled to a heightened standard of need.”
“In our judicial system, ‘the public has a right to every man’s evidence.’ Since the earliest days of the republic, ‘every man’ has included the president of the United States,” he added.
Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, writing in a concurrent opinion, similarly rejected Trump’s claim of absolutely immunity but argued that the president could make more valid arguments on remand.
“In our system of government, as this court has often stated, no one is above the law,” the opinion said. “That principle applies, of course, to a president.”

  22. so what does the supreme”s “no man is above the law” edict say to Barr’s DOJ about their OLC policy about not being able to indict a sitting prez – you know the reason mueller couldn’t go ahead and straight out say dtRump committed crimes like obstruction of justice, perjury etc.

  23. Daughter called a while go following-up with concerns that she may have the virus. She finally found a place that did nasal swabs–she’ll have the results a week from Monday. Have you ever tried telling a 58-yo kid that she’s grounded for 10-days?

  24. ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’, Mr Flatus.  In any event, you stay healthy, PLEASE.

  25. Of course, the NY grand jury could find an offense, say one instance of fraudulent property appraisal, and then the prosecution could make a charge, with the relevant evidence. A moment later, the news hawks could all sue to see that evidence. All before Nov 3. But, they’d better get a move on !

  26. Btw, in the trump tax cases, injustices alito and thomas voted in favor of totalitarian dictatorship.

    Impeach them. Lock them up.

  27. It has been a wild couple of days.  The keyboard controller on my laptop is dying, so I bought a new computer to replace it and scoop up all I can from the old one.  This is a long term project.

Did the Supremes hand a victory to SFB?  The answer to that is the results of the election.  I think there will be future cases because SFB does not go lightly in the night.

I think the opinion on the Oklahoma case has tremendous impact across the nation.  It has been a long while since Native Americans have had a good result.

The fun thing is that the three cases were determined by the very people the far right white evangical kkk supremacists wanted in the court.   And, the other cases which Roberts went to the majority should make SFB turn purple and want to break McConnell’s nuts.

  28. I was astounded today when I went to Sam’s to pick up some drinks for the office and almost everyone there, well over 90%, were wearing masks. Our governor issued a mask mandate last week but did not put any enforcement mechanism in place. Even without the enforcement mechanism, apparently even folks in East Bumfuck are starting to get the message. Hallelujah and pass me a beer.

  29. President Winning-by-Losing Is, in Fact, Losing Donald Trump has made a career of turning bad news into good, but the virus has already defeated him.

This is exactly what Merkel was talking about. Trump and his Administration did not just get the coronavirus wrong. They lied. They spread disinformation. And they are still doing so. Perhaps—although the polls do not reflect it, and despite history suggesting that a comeback for him is unlikely—the President sees political advantage in this misinformation campaign. But there is no such thing as winning by losing against a deadly disease. Trump can still pull out a victory in the election. He has, however, already been defeated by the pandemic. We are all losers now.

  30. BiD

It may be that Trump thinks the virus is his friend.  Majority of the most sick and dying are black and brown.  Talk about voter suppression.

  31. X-R, even thomas & alito agreed with the others on immunity

    https://www.rawstory.com/2020/07/all-nine-justices-rejected-trumps-claim-of-absolute-immunity-cnns-toobin/

CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin broke down the implications of the decision.
“All nine justices reject the position put forth by the president’s lawyers in this case,” said Toobin. “All nine justices say that the president does not have absolute immunity from a subpoena, and all nine agree that the case has to go back to district court.”
“This is a legal defeat for the president, but it may be a practical victory,” added Toobin. “The idea that the president can’t be subpoenaed is completely rejected but the Supreme Court, and that even the two dissenting justices agree on … the practical victory for the president is that the legal proceedings will continue. It seems unlikely, given this opinion, that the president will ultimately be able to stop the disclosure of these events to the grand jury in Manhattan, but it’s going to take time.”

  32. …just got yelled at by a young Karen for wearing a mask, as is required by law.🙄

Pretty sure one of these yahoos is gonna murder me🇺🇸

  33. She might just be jealous of my freshly-canned successfully-vacuum-sealed tomatoes😎 🍅🇺🇸

  34. Isn’t it the weirdest thing for folks to be upset about?  We’re protecting their health.  Dumbasses!

  35. i guess the morons get mad at masks because it reminds them that their sense of control is illusory🤷‍♂️

  36. i’m cracking, people.  This song made me feel better, today, though, for about 2 minutes and 45 seconds😃⏱😭

  37. Yes, Ms Pat, you are absolutely right.

The trump immunity theory score was 0 – 9. It’s like a 0 – 9 score in the Stanley Cup finals. I mean, when even thomas and alito ‘abandon’ trump, you know that trump’s assertion is an super-crazed ultra-dingbat legal theory.

  38. The only thing that could make this day happier would be the arrest of mike pence for shoplifting at walmart.

  39. Or, bolsonaro, xi, the ayatollah khameini, muhammed bin salmon and putin all dying of c19 tonight.

  40. Mr Bink,
Just remember that they are as afraid of you as you are of them.
You could get a pet wolverine and walk it twice a day just to intimidate. The problem would be, how would you keep the wolverine from eating you ?

  41. i have a pet wolverine, and to prevent it from eating me, i love it.  Feeding it helps to that end, also.

  42. Well sir, if you aren’t afraid of your wolverine, I don’t understand how you could be afraid of anything. You must be a much tougher, harder, stronger and worse tasting guy than I am.
