  1. “I don’t know why this nation has a president like him. We all miss the United States that [we’ve] known for years and years,” he continued. “The Leader in the world… a nation that cares and builds a better world. So I hope you get rid of Trump soon.”

  2. and as another old song says (so fittingly sung by twit the stripper of rights):

    Let me entertain you
    Let me make you smile
Let me do a few tricks
Some old and then some new tricks
    I’m very versatile

  3. “Can we limit the government shutdown to just the White House?”

sure wish the media would cover the cost of gov’t shutdowns better.
should be emphasized as it was in newsweek last January, the 2013 shutdown cost  24 billion and the most recent one estimated at 6 billion per week.   isn’t there a better use for that money than feeding the twit’s egomania?

  4. Of course we expect our politics to be entertaining…  why else do you think the phrase “gotta make some popcorn… lots and lots of popcorn” is so frequently used…

ps…  I know I’m guilty of it… but hey… watching trump go down is so very entertaining.

  5. We are really enjoying SFB’s futile attempts to lie his way out of everything
There is not enough popcorn in world for this show

  6. I sure would like to see Jared Kushner out of a capacity to compromise our diplomatic and intelligence apparatus, and in an orange jumpsuit that matches Ivanka’s.

  7. Well as of 3:00 the Dow is down 2728 points since its high this year of 26828 on 10/3.  It’s down 692 points from a year ago.  All 2018 gains now have evaporated. Merry Christmas from the trump economy?

  8. Quite an interesting week.  Ever since Cohn went for sentencing the mood of the media I watch, listen or read, has changed to reviewing mob convictions in Southern District New York.  With the low intelligence senile little mushroom SFB tweeting out mob phrases we can be assured he knows of what he tweets.  NY city mobs and Russian mobs are probably trying to figure out what to do because the investigations will get in their dirty business.

  9. The price for West Texas Sweet plunged to $49/bbl today, with no sign of a bottom. That’s a loss of almost $28/bbl since October 3d.

  10. reed o’connor, the federal judge who tried to overturn Obamacare is a52 year old white babybush appointee, a lifelong Texan with a law degree from U of So Texas. He is an ultra-reactionary, anti-government, anti-glbtq, and unsympathetic to poor folks. He deserves a gotcha that will remove him.

  11. What the hell ? Is the trail closed ? Where’d everybody go ? Is the giant tweeter hunting us down ?
Stay tuned for our next exciting episode !

  12. We’ve had two beautiful mornings in a row here in Columbia. Imagine, Robins searching for non-existent worms along with a bluebird confused beyond all recall–that was the scene from my magnificent breakfast room window. Kumcho was with me yesterday sitting on my lap as we watched together (it was our anniversary).
This morning I’m listening to a spritely playing of Handle’s Water Music played on period instruments. I’ll have to find out how many musicians were actually on that barge on the River Thames.

  13. Jamie… beautiful greats!
    Flatus… happy anniversary!
xrep…  at that hour you could be doing live tweeting with the Don.

  14. XR, good question.  I’ve been too busy to do much screwing around on the internet.  What should have been a fairly moderate week has turned into a crazy one.  Heck, I’m barely even getting to keep up with the comedy take on the news – didn’t see Oliver or Maher this week. (Is Maher on or is he on one of his hiatuses?)  Looking forward to a bit of time off next week – with LP and the MIL coming to town for the holidays.

  15. Drain the sewer. Round up all the beasts. Lock ’em ALL up.
Toss the key to Madame Pele, with our compliments & thanks.

    wapo:
Under questioning from a federal judge, President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn conceded Tuesday he was aware lying to the FBI was a crime when he did so and declined to withdraw his guilty plea to the offense — a mea culpa that could rankle supporters who have suggested he was duped by law enforcement into committing a crime.

U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan began Flynn’s sentencing in an unusual way, noting another judge had accepted Flynn’s guilty plea and forcing the former Trump ally to answer questions under oath. Sullivan reminded Flynn he could get into “more trouble” if he were to lie in court, then asked, “Were you not aware that lying to FBI investigators was a crime?”

    “I was aware,” Flynn said.

The judge asked if he wanted to postpone the sentencing, or reconsider his plea.
“I would like to proceed your honor,” Flynn said.

“Because you are guilty of this offense?” the judge responded.

    “Yes, your honor,” Flynn said.

The questioning marked a dramatic beginning to what might have been an uneventful hearing.

  17. also from above:

Sullivan asked defense attorney Robert Kelner if it was the defense’s contention that the FBI was legally obligated to remind Flynn that lying to the FBI is a federal crime, or that “Mr. Flynn was entrapped by the FBI.”
    “No, your honor,” Kelner said.

The judge asked whether any of the FBI’s actions “raised any degree of doubt that Mr. Flynn intentionally lied to the FBI.”

“No, your honor,” Kelner said, adding that Flynn stood by his guilty plea.

  18. Pogo…  Maher is on hiatus… he’ll be back on Jan. 18th.  Also.. I think he does a show on New Year’s Eve somewhere in Maui if you and the Mrs are inclined to take a vacation then.

  19. What better way to ruin a trip to paradise than to voluntarily fill your ear canals with the sound of his smug, grating voice?

  20. from the guardian:
The sentencing hearing of Michael Flynn has entered a dramatic recess, after Flynn was subjected to a scathing rebuke and warned that he could face a prison sentence.

Judge Emmet Sullivan, in charge of sentencing Flynn, spent around 15 minutes lambasting Trump’s former national security adviser, telling Flynn that “arguably, you sold your country out” and expressing “disgust” and “disdain”, at his offences.

“You were an unregistered agent of a foreign country will serving as the National Security Adviser to the president of the United States,” Vox reporter Andrew Prokop quoted Sullivan as saying.

“Arguably this undermines everything this flag over here stands for.”

Sullivan urged Flynn to consider whether he wants to be sentenced in court today, or wait and cooperate further with Mueller’s investigation. Flynn has taken a recess, apparently to consider his next move. The court is due to return at 12.30pm.

If Flynn decided to be sentenced today, Sullivan said he could not rule out prison time.

“Arguably, you sold your country out,” Sullivan said, according to Tim Ryan, a reporter for Courthouse News who was in court.

“The court’s going to consider all that. I cannot assure you that if you proceed today you will not receive a sentence of incarceration.”

  21. pogo, X-r and other los/las abogados/as  on the trail, what would your advice be to your client if a good but apparently irate judge asks him what Flynn’s just now did:
Sullivan urged Flynn to consider whether he wants to be sentenced in court today, or wait and cooperate further with Mueller’s investigation.

  22. more update from the guardian:

    12:54

Flynn asks for delay in sentencing

Michael Flynn, Donald Trump’s former national security, has asked for a delay in sentencing.
Judge Emmet Sullivan earlier said Flynn had committed a “very serious offence” in lying to the FBI.

    9m ago 12:50

The court is back in session in Washington DC. Judge Emmet Sullivan has just clarified that he did not mean to suggest Flynn may be guilty of “treason”.
Sullivan has also clarified that Flynn was acting as a foreign agent while serving in the government, as the judge had earlier alleged. Flynn was in contact with foreign officials before Trump became president.  From CBS News Steven Portnoy:

“I felt terrible about that,” Sullivan says, after the prosecutor notes Flynn’s conduct as a foreign agent ended in mid-Nov 2016.”I’m not suggesting he committed treason,” Sullivan adds, further apologizing for his remarks in the prior session.

  23. Ms Pat,
I think that flynn’s attorney saved the base turd from lethal injection.
flynn has no reason to complain about his counsel. None. He should kiss that man’s shoes.

If the Defense (and the Government) wanted a recess to help the judge calm down, and to refresh his memory of the actual charges, then I’d tell flynn to go along with it, keep his mouth shut, look contrite, and just be patient.

  24. Acourse, I investigated crimes for the Defense and left lawyering to lawyers.
In the normal course of things, I advised attorneys on 1. evidence, 2. voir dire, and 3. prepping for examination and cross examination, direct and redirect. 4. I also wrote briefs and appeals on how the 4th and 5th Amendments applied to particular cases.
If it wasn’t absolutely necessary to rub elbows with the client or his family or his associates, I tried to avoid it.

  25. ahhh, the sweet smell of schadenfreude wafting along the trail today

    ny times:
Trump Foundation to Close Amid Lawsuit Accusing It of ‘Willful Self-Dealing’

The Donald J. Trump Foundation will close and give away all its remaining funds in response to a lawsuit filed by the New York attorney general’s office, which had accused the Trump family of using the charity for self-dealing and political gain, the office announced on Tuesday.
The attorney general, Barbara Underwood, accused the foundation of “a shocking pattern of illegality” that was “willful and repeated” and included unlawfully coordinating with Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
“This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests,” Ms. Underwood said.
The closure of the foundation is a milestone in the investigation. But the broader lawsuit, which also seeks millions in restitution and penalties and a bar on President Trump and his three oldest children from serving on the boards of other New York charities, is proceeding.
What assets remain after penalties will be directed to charities that must be approved by the attorney general’s office, and the process will be subject to judicial supervision. Ms. Underwood and a lawyer for the foundation signed the stipulation agreeing to the dissolution.
“This is an important victory for the rule of law, making clear that there is one set of rules for everyone,” Ms. Underwood said. “We’ll continue to move our suit forward to ensure that the Trump Foundation and its directors are held to account for their clear and repeated violations of state and federal law.”
    [continues]

  26. that lawsuit by NY AG “seeks an order… enjoining Mr. Trump from service for a period of ten years as a director, officer, or trustee of a not-for-profit organization incorporated in or authorized to conduct business in the State of New York” and it cites his “failure to follow basic fiduciary obligations … required by law.”

you realize they’re talking about the person now sitting in the white house serving as the head officer of a massive not-for-profit organization sometimes referred to as the United States of America.
as the song sorta says  “start spreading the news, he should be leaving today… if you can’t make it in New York, you can’t make it anywhere”

  27. I wonder how the folks in Az feel about McSally being appointed to fill out McCain’s seat.  I hope she gets her lying ass kicked again.   She ran a sleazy campaign in which she called her opponent, without any evidence, a supporter of terrorism and lied about her own record on health care.  Apparently, this behavior in politics is not a one-off.

  28. Wapo:

President Trump has agreed to shut down his embattled personal charity and to give away its remaining money amid allegations that he used the foundation for his personal and political benefit, New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced Tuesday.

Underwood said that the Donald J. Trump Foundation is dissolving as her office pursues its lawsuit against the charity, Trump and his three eldest children.

The suit, filed in June, alleged “persistently illegal conduct” at the foundation, which Trump began in 1987. Underwood is continuing to seek more than $2.8 million in restitution and has asked a judge to ban the Trumps temporarily from serving on the boards of other New York nonprofit organizations.

Underwood said Tuesday that her investigation found “a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation — including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more.”

Not a good day for the Dotard.  (Snicker, snort).

  29. What a day!  I am trying to put all into the compartments, but I suspect we are going to hear about other compartments above these.  Somethings that are starting to show up are sign posts to the links between Flynn, SFB, foreign assets, various SFB organizations and money laundering.  There seems to be a bit of disconnect between the WH and reality – oh nuts, that has been there all along.

  30. Here’s a link to the lawsuit filed against Trump Fdn. for $2.8 in restitution and other penalties against IMPOTUS and his three eldest spawn.  Barbara Underwood is pulling no punches.

As alleged in the petition, Mr. Trump used the Trump Foundation’s charitable assets to pay off his legal obligations, to promote Trump hotels and other businesses, and to purchase personal items. In addition, at Mr. Trump’s behest, the Trump Foundation illegally provided extensive support to his 2016 presidential campaign by using the Trump Foundation’s name and funds it raised from the public to promote his campaign for presidency, including in the days before the Iowa nominating caucuses.

The settlement today was nothing more or less than damage control.  I’m beginning to see the makings of a RICO case against all things Trump, and I love it.

  31. KC, I’d bet the voters in AZ who voted not to put McSally in office are PISSED.  And I hope they make that clear at the next election opportunity.

  32. After yesterday like Alexander and his
Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
IMPOTUS might like to move to Australia. Maybe start a GoFundMe account to pay his travel expenses?

  33. pogo, repeating my comment above about said lawsuit by NY AG   :
“seeks an order… enjoining Mr. Trump from service for a period of ten years as a director, officer, or trustee of a not-for-profit organization incorporated in or authorized to conduct business in the State of New York” and  cites his “failure to follow basic fiduciary obligations … required by law.”   you realize they’re talking about the person now sitting in the white house serving as the head officer of a massive not-for-profit organization sometimes referred to as the United States of America.

  34. WaPo reports:

The Senate on Tuesday overwhelmingly passed a sweeping overhaul of the criminal justice system, after a remarkable political shift from Republicans who voted in large numbers to save money by reducing prison sentences, handing a rare bipartisan victory to President Trump.

It’s rare that I agree with Mertle & SFB, but this is a good thing. It’s not comprehensive but it’s a start. All Senate Democrats voted for the bill.

  35. Patd,  he’s unfit to run any organization that benefits anyone but himself. It baffles me that the Republican voters buy this bullscheisser’s bullscheisse.

  36. pogo, if he ain’t good enough for ny, he sure as hell ain’t for the country.
btw, he better hurry up and sign that criminal justice reform before he and family get convicted.  they can enjoy some of the benefits.

  37. IMPOTUS might like to move to Australia.

Pogo…  I doubt Australia would want him.  Maybe Argentina…  after all…  they did take the nazis.

  38. bbronc and other gov’t workers on trail, from msn:
Trump signed an executive order declaring that “all executive departments and agencies of the federal government shall be closed” on Monday, continuing a loosely followed tradition when Christmas falls on a Tuesday.

  39. The way it works in Latin America. If a country takes ours we agree to take theirs when the need arises. That way violent coups are avoided when a leader has worn out his or her welcome.

  40. Well, I can only speak for two AZ voters re the McSally appointment. We’re not pissed because once we heard that Kyle was stepping away, we expected the appointment. She did nearly get elected, after all.
Democrats worked hard in 2018 and I expect that to continue. I suspect we’ll find a strong candidate for 2020. And let’s face it, McSally is still McSally. There is more than a reasonable chance that the blue wave is only just beginning and that Arizona will ultimately have two Democratic senators.
