  1. Seeing Toby model reminds me that Bologna was a model on eBay for my friend.  She modeled and earned small dog clothes when she was a pup.  She has a complete wardrobe, but only likes to wear her blue jean jacket. Ms.B-lo turns 13 in October and this photo is from December 2004.  B-lo was a gift to hubby from me before we were married.  She broke both front legs the first month she joined the household.   The little doggie also volunteered at the assisted living facilities with her circus dog tricks.   The seniors loved that she would shake all four legs. As a senior today, I like it, too.   Senior B-lo is blind from cataracts, has congestive heart failure and arthritis.  But, she still plays, drags out her frisbee.  We have a wonderful vet office and have her on meds and cannabis CBDs. We have discussed the end-of-life issues with our vet.   Thanks for letting me write this now…when B-lo passes, I won’t be able to talk about it.  I still get sad about Tootsie, Mr. and Mrs. Jack’s bird.   When you have a fur or feather buddy for a long time, it does tug and tear at the heart.

  2. what next!  locusts? frogs? the rest of the 10 plagues?

    reuters:

MEXICO CITY – An earthquake of magnitude 8.1 struck off the southern coast of Mexico late on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, killing at least six people and triggering small tsunami waves but no major destruction.

The quake was apparently stronger than a devastating 1985 tremor that flattened swathes of Mexico City and killed thousands, but this time damage to the city was limited.

A number of buildings suffered severe damage in parts of southern Mexico. Some of the worst initial reports came from Juchitan in Oaxaca state, where sections of the town hall, a hotel, a bar and other buildings were reduced to rubble.

Massive earthquake strikes off Mexico coast, setting off tsunami warnings

    […]

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System said hazardous tsunami waves were possible on the Pacific coasts of Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama and Honduras within three hours. There was no tsunami threat for the West Coast of the United States, but the warning system said waves could reach Mexico and as far as Ecuador.

Donald Trump Jr.’s Retreat to Patriotism
In his latest explanation for meeting with a Russian lawyer in June 2016, the president’s son insists it was his duty as an American to learn if Hillary Clinton was unfit for the presidency.

  5. Harvey was like a slow gutter ball through Houston.  Irma is juicing-up over the warm waters and she has Florida soil in her sights…ready to punch her way into the state.   Satellites have really saved the day for many humans and I sure hate to see science die under trump.  He is letting it wither, for sure.  There will be no money in Homeland Security’s budget for the stinking southern border wall after all of the natural disasters.  Mexico has to pay for their own earthquake.

bw, you can say that again. long long sleepless night due to Bodhi the enlightened cat not coming in before dark as usual. no sign all night. here, all pets are kept indoors as darkness falls due to coyotes, wild cats, owls, and all others of mother nature’s predators (including poachers and weird gun nuts who just like to shoot at anything standing in the fields).  heartache, horrible tho’ts of snake bites or guts torn out or deadcat floating in the pond.  you know the feeling.  with heavy heart trudging back from freeing the chickens from coop this morning, still thinking terrors of the wilderness, I spotted him running homeward lickety split from god knows where…not stopping for pats but going immediately to bury head in cat food bowl and then eventually sated putting up with greetings from his relieved human love slave.

  7. if “Harvey was like a slow gutter ball through Houston” then Irma is a sure strike worthy of  walter sobchak of big Lebowski fame.

  8. I have cousins in Florida and Louisiana and we email frequently.  They tease me because I have ‘weather channel syndrome’ and contact them for every potential storm to remind them to stay in touch or come-on out to New Mexico.   This time, however, my cousin was serious about Irma when he emailed me.  My 92 year old aunt from Palm Beach Gardens has evacuated and he intends on staying — his two daughters are away at college.

  9. BlondeW….   my condolences in advance for your beloved LadyB.  We have an 18 yr old cat that’s on it’s last legs.  Rick is extremely attached to him.

Craig…  Toby is a sweet heart!

  10. Hacked to death…trustworthy credit bureau, not so trustworthy, crackerjack or timely in admitting its insecurities and exposing innocent humans to the dark web.   Protecting your credit and personal information plans available! trump not keeping us safe and his cyber win has exposed the nasty truth, we are unprotected and gullible, period.

  11. Blonde Wino – another hack puts data on the dark side.  The worst was the OPM breach as that took super double secret stuff and put it in the hands of the Russian KGB/FSB/SVR/GRU – and they found me again.  Change passwords, sign up for the credit watch on the Equifax website.

The track of Irma is very disturbing.  The European models were right the first time.  The only major change has been where the remains end up.  No longer thought of as going up S.Carolina, but ending up over W. Kentucky.  Real wet stuff.  There is one thread which has the storm doing a loop and ending up over DC.  That would be very interesting.

  12. BlondeW…. Cookie.  We got him out of our local shelter when he was 4 months old.

patd…  glad to read that Bodhi came back.  We also have an 11 yr old female, Peanut.  She’s the first cat I’ve never let outside.  Way too many predators here now.  We stopped letting Cookie out 3 yrs ago…  just too old.  I remember many nights waiting up for him to come home.  From now on…  they’ll all be indoor cats.

BlueB…   you too, please stay safe.

  13. The eldest of our three dogs died recently.  She was the first dog I’ve had that died naturally at home.  Most likely because we waited too long.  But it was actually very peaceful.  We still haven’t come to terms with it.  Our other dogs are 14 and 10.

  14. nbc news:

WASHINGTON — The House passed a $15 billion disaster relief package Friday morning with a broad bipartisan majority, sending the measure to President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign it into law later in the day.

With the cleanup efforts from Hurricane Harvey running out of money and Hurricane Irma bearing down on Florida, Congress acted quickly, taking only three days to move the measure through both legislative bodies. But the bill, which includes a deal struck between the president and Democratic leaders to include short-term extensions of overall government funding and the nation’s debt ceiling, saw sizable defections among Republicans in both chambers.

One day after the Senate passed it with 17 GOP defections, 90 Republicans voted against it in the House, including four from storm-ravaged Texas.

The updated version of the bill includes $7.4 billion for direct assistance for victims of Hurricane Harvey; $450 million for the Small Business Association to help small businesses get back on their feet; and an additional $7.4 billion in Community Development Block Grants for all disasters this year. The added money could be used for Hurricane Irma or other natural disasters this year. It also extends the flood insurance program until December.

  15. Oh well, I’ve been posting like a madman…..on the previous post…. lol

but any way, I’ve had this bulb I put in a pot on the deck for the last 7-8 years now.  I liberated said bulb when we had rented a Ditch Witch to cut out an oak tree which was impinging on the foundation of an otherwise nice little brick house and we kinda had to destroy the pleasant little post-war-ish flower bed…..so it’s been on the deck in a pot for 7-8 yrs now with nary a bloom.   Great big green leaves but flower-wise, bupkis.

Got back from NY to storm warnings, look at the old deck-pot and Voila.  I guess all it took was a hurricane wearing Ray-Bans and Bermuda shorts ripping up I-75 lookin’ for a home.

  16. Yes jack the hoodoo is working…… The cone is moving to the west.
A bit more West and we get to feel bad for those in its path……which I always never fail to do, even when it’s ME what’s in its path…..Im getting confused again…….

  17. The thing I noticed after Hugo was there was not one shred of Spanish moss to be found…..it totally disappeared.

  18. Well it has been a long day of nothing.  Damned storm is churning and not destroying anything this afternoon. Other storms are either wiping out Mexico or volcanic rocks which are already deck cleared. Some yacking by the talking heads about how distraught the republicans are because SFB went around them to keep the world upright. And  . .

Oh, yeah, Texas.  The Harvey recovery is underway.  Little noticed fact (or fake fact, for republicans anti-science) the area around Houston sank two centimeters, or a little more than 3/4 of an inch,  from the weight of all the water Harvey dumped on them.  The recovery of Texas and Louisiana will take a long time. And, cost a lot of money.

Hurricane Irma is going to do more damage over more territory than Harvey. Irma could be a hurricane into Georgia.  And, a tropical storm into Tennessee or even Kentucky.  Those people are recovering from Harvey flooding!

  19. craig, hope your next thread title is NOT “Irma Bites Dog”

you planning to move that flamingo before the hurricane does?

  20. Sturg,
Your poor tortoise needs more fatty critters in her diet. The flowering bulb is for your kid–FX it to her while it is still luxuriant. If you need a place to hide during the maybe storm, there’s room and roof here.
    Flatus out

  21. If they cut off power and water etc then we have to go……booked into Spruce Pine NC for that eventuality…..
Still hoping for non-bug out status…..

  22. I got a friend lives next door….he kind of sold the business in Connecticut, sold his house up there, and now splits his time between this place here on the beach, or their Christmas tree farm (and potatoes) in— you guessed it…..East Tennessee……they left here for the farm during the week.

  23. He brings me a sack of potatoes from time to time…..he says that they are from the original seeds of the Maine Kennebec potato which Maine made illegal at one point to have any of, and tried to eradicate the breed……but some were smuggled out here and there and still survive……..

    Or something like that……

  24. But if that storm goes to East Tennessee, I know a Christmas tree and potato farmer who is going to be doing some plain and fancy cussin…….and that truck ain’t cheap……long bed, 4-door, 4-wheel Dodge Diesel……..land yacht……

  25. Jamie, this is only Disney’s 5th hurricane closing in nearly 50 years. I’d say Walt played the odds fairly well, certainly better than if he’d followed his team’s advice to pick South Florida.

  26. Craig – last October Disney closed for Hurricane Matthew.  Just the seventh time since the 1970’s.  Now almost a year later, eleven months, and Disney closes again.

  27. Beautiful home, Mr Crawford. My kitty cats send Toby best wishes. Solidarity!

Glad you are with your Dad. I bet he’s happy you are with him. Today & always.

Hope you realize how much everyone here cares about you. If it means anything you are in my thoughts during all this. Will I be waiting for your posts after this awful Irma passes? Do I have to answer? 😉 It’ll be like that scene in Apollo 13 where the astronauts are in re-entry & out of radio contact. “Hello, Crawford Family …. this is Trail Mix WNY. Hello, Crawford Family …. this is ….”

Dammit be safe & take care. You, Dad & Toby.

  28. Sorry about your loss of your dog, Katherine Graham Cracker. We can be completely honest around our pets. They see us as we really are.
