  1. From her opening statement: “Equally fictitious is the notion that I am disloyal to President Trump. I have heard the allegation in the media that I supposedly told the Embassy team to ignore the President’s orders ‘since he was going to be impeached.’ That allegation is false. I have never said such a thing, to my Embassy colleagues or to anyone else.”

  2. take another look at that picture of her walking into the capitol. I can see a meryl streep Oscar coming out of a movie on this.

[maybe john goodman playing the Pompeo role, but who would be cast for rudy?]

  3. perhaps not courage in gordon’s case, but…

    from NBCnews:

Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, will testify next week to House committees leading the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, defying the State Department’s direction not to cooperate.
“Notwithstanding the State Department’s current direction to not testify, Ambassador Sondland will honor the Committees’ subpoena, and he looks forward to testifying on Thursday,” Sondland’s attorneys, Robert Luskin and Kwame Manley, said in a statement Friday.

    wapo:

The Pentagon will deploy an additional 1,800 U.S. troops to Saudi Arabia, senior defense officials announced Friday, a modest increase in the U.S. military’s presence in the Middle East meant to deter aggressive Iranian actions.
The deployments include two fighter squadrons, an air expeditionary wing headquarters unit, two Patriot missile batteries and one air-defense unit operating a system known as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD.

  5. I predict that SFB will try to put the blame on Trudy Juliannie
SFB said he thinks all these people are Trudie’s clients

  6. Honestly, my heart is broken today.  How many children must be maimed and murdered before the monster in the White House is evicted.  This isn’t a matter of party.  It isn’t whether you are right or left.  It is simple humanity.  You don’t slaughter children for profits.

  7. Wow  Rhonda Trump McDaniels what will it feel like to be the chairMAN of the Goopers when the entire party is obliterated    I don’t think the Romney’s will take you back

  8. Quote of the day …
During the CNN forum on LGBT issues on Thursday, Morgan Cox, the chair of the Human Rights Campaign board of directors, asked Warren how she would react to a supporter who said: “I’m old-fashioned and my faith teaches me that marriage is between one man and one woman.”

Warren replied: “Well, I’m going to assume it’s a guy who said that. And I’m going to say, then just marry one woman. I’m cool with that. Assuming you can find one.”

  9. “Every bad day for Trump is a great day for America“

No, it’s all bad news for everyone.  It’s not great that we have a corrupt despot who won’t cede power and is prepared to precipitate a Constitutional crisis or foment a civili war to defend his position. Be afraid.

  10. Jeremy Renner (remember he played NJ politician in American Hustle) is dead ringer to play Zelensky.

craig, yeah, it would take a real clown for rudy altho’ it should be someone more along the evil joker spectrum.

  11. Worth noting Marie Yovanovitch is testifying without a subpoena and without State Department lawyers, just her personal attorneys, even more of an FU to Trump and Pompeo. She is daring them to fire her.

  12. No, it’ll be no walk in the park, to a picnic where you have a piece of cake.   More like Sherman’s “War is hell”.

  13. Correction: House Dems now saying they issued a subpoena this morning because she was directed by the White House and State Dept not to testify (Dem chairs obviously were trying to give her some cover). This woman is proving to be one of the great heroes of this sad saga.

  14. click to see tweets with copy of the WH talking points that were sent to goper critters about her testifying

    raw story:

    […]

In talking points sent to Republicans, the White House argued that Yovanovitch should be using a State Department attorney instead of her own counsel, because she had access to classified information.
The White House suggested Democrats were putting Yovanovitch in harm’s way without that State lawyer. But she testified it was the opposite and that State officials thought the gov had “our backs & protect[ed] us.”

  15. ” putting Yovanovitch in harm’s way”

sounds like a threat.  more than just that she’ll be fired and lose her retirement as they did to McCabe.

  16. Now you mention it, one of the major factors in Anabasis to me is how that fool army VOTED their way the hell out of Persia.  Voting is what’s gotta happen.

  17. I’m tired of “blockbuster” and “bombshell”……..Pulitzer prize for the reporter who comes up with a better word.
    Word.

  18. Barr meets with Murdoch and then this happens:

FOX NEWS CHANNEL’S SHEPARD SMITH TO STEP DOWN AS CHIEF NEWS ANCHOR AND MANAGING EDITOR OF BREAKING NEWS UNIT

  19. I wonder what barr has on murdoch that gives him power over the personnel and editorial policy at fux nooz.

  20. Impeach, remove and jail barr in the early morning. pompey after the morning break. mnuchin over the working lunch.. perry before he can leave on his own power –  before the afternoon break. chao before dinner. ross in the evening. Then the reps and sens can go home and sleep well, knowing they’ve put in a good days work, and probably gotten trump’s attention.

  21. Turkish Army Bombs US Special Forces
So, trump flies to his Imperial Bread and Circuses Rally in NOLA

I mean, which event is really important here ? The imperial preening, of course.

  22. Jack Nicholson to play rudy giuliani. He has the chops. Er, the teeth.
If Jack’s too busy, then Christopher Walken.
If they’re both too busy, then ya, Bela Lugosi.

  23. My guess is that Shepard Smith ends up at CNN.  MSNBC is still not off the rails like CNN.  What would be funny is that he lands in Sinclair owned stations.  I doubt it though, he is probably doing a Will or Bill Crystal and ready to gain a real moral view.

  24. Warren may be funny and she certainly has the drive, but she keeps pissing off younger voters.  It’s not that she is racist in any real way, but that she has simply grown up with too much baggage.  She and Biden share the Boomer luggage.    Most recent example:  Don’t sing Sunday School songs to an LGBTQ audience.

  25. Not intentionally harsh Craig.  If she or Biden are the nominee, I will certainly vote for them.  I just dont happen to believe that either of them is a good match for the future.  One term maybe, but I would rather see someone likely to go a full eight years to clean up the Trump mess.

  26. You had your dream nominee in 2016, Jamie, and that candidate lost.  Not only did that candidate lose, they found a way to lose while still winning the popular vote against the worst candidate, ever.  Maybe, find reasons to support other peoples’ candidates?   Just a thought.

  27. Bink

I already said I would support others candidates.  I’m particularly fond of Harris, Booker, and Klobuchar but   don’t expect me to fawn over any of the slates with lots of slobbering love.   As to my dream candidate, all the ones running this year are spouting all of her policies.  She isn’t in office now because of a totally irrational media onslaught and almost criminal Bernie bro troll farm, Russian memes and 30 years dredging up every sin her husband ever committed.  Despite all that she did as you say win the popular vote and only losing the EC by a mere 76K over three states that may or may not have been tampered.   Whats more she is still out there supporting this year’s Democratic candidates.  The woman is a heroine and the nation really missed a huge bet by not electing her.

  28. Warren is a fantastic candidate, and we’re lucky to have someone like her in serious contention for the nomination, even after having Trump permanently lowering the standard of the office.  The only criticisms  of her are Republican criticisms, and Republicans would slander sweet Christ, himself, if he ran as a Democrat.

  29. Elizabeth is 70 years old. After two terms I think she’ll be Bernie’s or Joe’s age right now. Check my math but don’t think she should be lumped into their category.

  30. Uh, she found a way to lose the Presidency while winning the popular vote.

She got gamed by the Russians?  Even more evidence she ran a terrible campaign.  Only you and Republicans running for Congress are still talking about her.

…and i voted for her, just sayin’.

  31. And today, Kamala got the Chuck Todd kiss of death:  Kamala was overprepared.

Heaven help us if we dared to vote for someone actually versed in all of the major issues.

I don’t hate Warren.  As I said, I would definitely vote for her and not only that, but I would vote for her over Biden. Given my druthers, I would rather have

    Harris/Klobuchar

    Booker/Castro

but Warren/Harris, Warren/Booker, Warren/Castro would be definite possibilities.  I’m just not convinced Warren can take on someone as nasty as Trump.

Easiest possible solution:  Throw the bastard out on his ass and then figure out how to handle a suck up wimp like Pence.

  32. Something else you might want to realize: people my age and younger aren’t looking for a young candidate- we all know the internet has made people of our generations incredibly stupid.  Age isn’t the disqualifier among us you seem to think it is.

Ok- we’re all on the same team, here (i think).  Except for that dirty bastard, Ping.😃

  33. Craig

These are the type of comments I’m seeing about EW as fall out from the LGBTQ conference.  Go argue with them.

I’m not a hard no on voting for her in the general but, as of now, I’m gonna have a difficult time casting that vote. A real difficult time. Shes barely hanging in there and any more lying gets uncovered, putting the “Never” label on her isnt something I will feel a bit bad about

Yes I agree wholeheartedly!! I’m truly in the Kamala camp and would find it very difficult to support her in the general and as I’ve said, her nomination reeks of Dukakis..I would hold my nose though…

Between that, her cultural appropriation &her lies about her imagined “struggles”, I really dont understand why so many are surprised Im not feeling her candidacy at all. Shes a fucking phony. I’ve always thought that about her. She tries too hard to be liked& it is OBVIOUS.
  35. Honestly, are you checking these twitter profiles to ensure they’re not GOP interlocutors before you repost their stuff in other forums?

You can find someone on Twitter saying anything you want if you try hard enough.

  36. This is the party that sent a troll to an AOC event to make it seem like Dems eat babies, Jamie.  Play the deep game, please.

  37. I concur with our beloved Trail Hand from Tacoma. However, I am more enthusiastic about Warren.
If any deserve the upchuck curse, it’s Bernie !, yang, steyer and gabbard. These folks ought not have gotten so far. 1%ers (by polling, not income) shouldn’t have a right to stay in the race. They are merely diverting $$$ and poll numbers away from the more electable candidates.

  38. Warren has to convince people like Jack she isn’t too liberal, people like Jamie that she is more liberal than she lets on, and independents that she isn’t a socialist.  Oy Vey.

Thank you, Mrs. Warren, for even bothering to try.  You have my vote, twice.

(i’d be thrilled to have someone as competent as Klobuchar as POTUS, btw Jamie, and i owe that appreciation to you, but there’s just no way. We gotta sally forth.)

  39. XR  had me at “hello”  Bernie, yang, steyer and gabbard are a waste of podium space.  Gabbard made a great boycott announcement and basic response was don’t let the doorknob hit you ..

Bink, I don’t want her to be more liberal.  I want her to be “something” and I don’t even know what the “something” is except that I don’t think she is ready to be out of her area of expertise in finance.

If I thought for a second that a team as competent as Harris/Klobuchar stood a chance I would be over the moon.  Have you caught either of them questioning some jerkoff Trump appointee?

Old Indian curse:  Do anything but don’t give me to the women …

  40. If Warren can be the 2020 version of the ‘Happy Warrior’, I think she can sweep the board.
Together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. Stop looking for that perverted earthly messiah to fix things for you, ‘cuz he’s the lowdown  devil in disguise. Look to yourself and your fellow citizens, because together, we can do anything. Anything.
Warren’s from Oklahoma, so she ought to be able to talk the language of the Pentacostals and the Suth’n Baptists.
