  1. wapo further quotes the honorable judge:

The assertion that a president can overrule current or former aides’ “own will to testify,” she added, “is a proposition that cannot be squared with core constitutional values, and for this reason alone, it cannot be sustained.”

Jackson did not limit her ruling to impeachment proceedings but wrote, “It is hard to imagine a more significant wound than such alleged interference with Congress’ ability to detect and deter abuses of power within the Executive branch for the protection of the People of the United States.”

  2. BiD, she’s a state dept employee detailed to the veep.   she’s probably well-experienced, non-partisan and a loyal American – ergo not recognizable by the mob family.

  3. So let’s assume for the moment that SFB’s attorneys file a sufficiently competent brief that gets SCOTUS thinking it should review the matter and SCOTUS takes it up.  This would likely result in a decision, similar to the proceedings going on in the financial documents case, that would issue in June 2020.  If the decision is not what SFB would like, it will result in hearings during the summer with SFB attempting to assert executive privilege – which the witnesses do not have the capacity to assert – and put obstruction in plain sight during the runup to the Fall campaign season and the presidential debates that will occur then.  As a betting man I bet that SCOTUS will either dodge this one or will ultimately rule against SFB, and that it will do the same WRT Congress seeking his financial records from his banks and accountants.  Things are not turning in a favorable direction for the twit..

  4. Along the lines of the thread topic, please look at this from Jennifer Rubin which has links to the decision handed down yesterday by U.S. District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who in a 120 page opinion “mercilessly shredded Trump’s unfounded and anti-historical claims of absolute immunity.” Unless SCOTUS steps in on the cases that SFB is facing that have come down in the past few days, things are looking pretty bleak for him next year.

  5. John Williams had us in mind when he composed his wonderful music. This selection is especially appropriate this year:

  6. We are having people over for the first time in a few years.  Turkey, mashed potatoes and RR we are having stuffing

  7. LOVE this!
And when deconstructing Bill Barr’s assertions of unitary executive power to protect Trump for anything he does — Judge Jackson bluntly compares Barr’s reasoning to that of George Orwell’s Animal Farm…  “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.”

Well… this year it’s gonna be only Rick, Dan, and I…  so we are going to a local restaurant that makes a mean Thanksgiving buffet.  No leftovers…   but no one has to slave over a stove either.

and oh yeah…  we will be going back to Dan’s to watch football on his new 65″ tv.

  8. I’m going to make corn muffins. For each box of Jiffy muffin mix, I add the contents of one of those small plastic containers of unflavored applesauce while reducing the amount of milk to a scant 1/4 cup. I also beat the egg then continue gently beating while adding the applesauce and milk. When that is nicely combined I remove the bowl from the mixer than add the dry mix gently combining it using a wire whisk. Lumpy is fine. Let the completed mix rest for a few minutes. Check that your oven is hot. I don’t grease my pans–I’ll gently spray them with canola oil. Finish-up using the box instructions.

  9. Freedom of speech based in the Constitution, triple-trumps executive privilege, which has no foundation in the Constitution, Law, or Regulation. The fatuous barr/trump claim of the supremacy of executive privilege, is like a claim that unicorns are mightier than rhinoceri.

  10. 1. Wild rice casserole.
    2. Rotmus : rutabaga, spud, parsnip, carrot with cinnamon & cardamom seasoning.
    3. BBQ beef brisket for those who aren’t crazy about turkey.

  11. Poobah, that’ sway warm for TG in MA.  Here it’s 61 and filtered sun – the deer hunters have to be sweating their proverbial asses off.

  12. craig & david, enjoy it while you can ’cause weather is about to hit the northeast in a big way.  not only affecting macy’s balloons but probably the parade goers as well…. gone with the wind.

  13. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee on Tuesday invited President Donald Trump to its first impeachment hearing, scheduled for Dec. 4, starting the next phase in a process that could lead to formal charges against the president.

The hearing, scheduled for 10 a.m. EST (1500 GMT), will have legal experts as witnesses. They have not yet been identified.

A House Democratic aide declined to comment on whether the Judiciary Committee expected to receive a formal report on the Intelligence Committee-led investigation into the Trump administration’s dealings with Ukraine before the hearing.

Representative Jerrold Nadler, the Democratic chairman of the committee, said in a statement that he had written to Trump to remind him that the committee’s rules allow the president to attend the hearing, and for his counsel to question the witnesses.

  14. From previous postings – before Linda Ronstadt the best Blue Bayou was done by Roy Orbison.  Another favorite is Jambalya (On the Bayou) by Hank Williams.
This Thanksgiving Day holiday is a bit better than the last couple.  We have impeachment on the horizon and a federal judge telling SFB to shove it.  The sad thing is he is still destroying these United States of America.

  15. Another adventure in Amazon Chinese shopping.  This time I needed a pry bar set.  Shopping for something that I could get in one day at a good price.  I tried the big box stores, nothing at a price under fifty dollars.  So a search on google had several pop up.  But, the winner was delivery in less than twenty-four hours at a price half of the others.  Actually, a lot more than one half cheaper.  At the price I could use them them once and be ahead.
The set was just delivered.  Heavy duty, very nice handles and more than I expected.  Unless these bend or break in use they are way above what I expected.  I hope to translate the name soon.
Of course I can smell them from down the hall, but one little issue is not enough.  I will put them outside for the night.

  16. Ya, Ms Bronc, Mr Orbison did an exceptionally fine job on Blue Bayou. I think he had 2 octaves on Ms Ronstadt, but I still preferred to be loved by her. I mean, where’s the romance of seeing that familiar sunrise through sleepy oversized shades ? Now, La Ronstadt, she had eyes the size of landing lights. Black landing lights, sure, but at least you knew where you were landing.

  17. BB, XR, two definitive versions of an absolutely iconic song.  Others may try, but…

KC, that’s a lot of pies.  We’re doing a pumpkin pecan praline pie – the recipe sounds like it may be so good that it will just knock our asses off.

  18. We should have another get together like we had in LV.

Traditional, regular Thanksgiving.  What about you Blue?

SFB just doesn’t know what Rudy was doing in….anywhere! LOLOL…

Was in a waiting room with two good ole boys & their wives praising SFB.  I was twitching to ask them what he’d done for them.  But I was  gratefully called away.

  19. XR – did you know that Roy wrote Blue Bayou?  The Ronstadt version is a top ten which gets it repeated a lot on the seventies channels.  I do enjoy her version a lot.

I have become a huge fan of YouTube, after many years of ignoring it.  Although a source of videos and audios which avoids paying royalty fees, much of the old days of all sorts of things are available and many thousands of new (even daily) videos are available to teach or entertain you.  If you go to a channel, such as mine Buena Ventura Life then look around you will find a bunch of topics.  Click on video to get the set of videos available, current to older.  Or click on channels to see what the channel owner is subscribed to and expand your channels.

  20. bbronc, better test those ultra cheap pry bars with a Geiger counter before bringing ’em into the house.  also wear some heavy duty gloves until your sure about whatever might be lurking on their surface.   sounds like a too-good-to-be-true bargain (especially since delivery free).
