  1. I’m watching Contagion from 2011.  It is amazing how closely it tracks to Covid except for the higher mortality.  Hints of things come?

  2. When right-wingers start complaining about all of the women, well,  that’s what it looked like, but from the other side, much of the time in history.

  3. Murder on tv tonight:  Wife offs the husband in Woodbridge NJ.   One of the clues?  One thing in her google search history was:  How to commit a murder.

  4. “…complaining about all of the women, well,  that’s what it looked like, but from the other side, much of the time in history. “

BiD, not “much of” but ALL the time in our history.  a gal here or there in the room, on the bench, at work was thought to be very up with the times even with the more liberal folk.  a 50-50 representation in the cabinet and in seat of power (v.p.) is fitting this 100th year celebration of getting the vote.

  5. and another tip of the hat to current ladies over there.

this time last year, finland made big news with an all-female crew.

Sanna Marin: Finland set for new government led by 5 women and world’s youngest sitting prime minister – The Washington Post

and here’s a blurb on same story from forbes:

Finland has continued to rank high on the World Economic Forum’s Annual Gender Gap Report Index. In 2018, Finland occupied place 4 of 149 ranked countries. Notable are the country’s overall high – and also gender-equal – achievements in health and education that have contributed to women’s high economic and political participation. Finland’s cabinet features a significant number of women: twelve portfolios are represented by women, only seven by men. Marin herself was previously Minister of Transport. Moreover, almost half (47%) of the country’s parliamentarians, are women. Finland is joined by European parliaments in Belgium, Spain and Sweden which the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) considers to be gender balanced – that is at least 40% of each gender. Compare this to Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, and Malta where women account for less than 20% of parliamentarians (EIGE’s 2019 Gender Equality Index).

  6. and remember this 2017 photo of WH described by slate:

On his first Monday in office, Trump signed an executive order banning international organizations that get U.S. aid funding from even saying the word abortion, even if they use non-U.S. money to provide information about abortion care. Lining the Oval Office behind Trump was a row of white men looking on approvingly, watching an admitted sexual assailant sign a policy….

contrasting and mocking at the time was this tweet from sweden

    Isabella Lövin

    @IsabellaLovin

Just signed referral of Swedish #climate law, binding all future governments to net zero emissions by 2045. For a safer and better future.

  7. that slate article went on to say this about the photos:

The photo is striking in part because there are rarely, if ever, images of all-female groups making rules and laws. Women are disproportionately affected by the whims of legislators, but their whims often don’t even make it to the discussion table; women still make up a tiny minority of public officials in the U.S. and around the world. Watching a committee of men rule on the most intimate goings-on of women’s bodies may cause some viewers to boil with rage, but just as many others won’t bat an eye. It’s the status quo. To see a group of women—including a pregnant one!—pushing forward legislation that isn’t even about reproductive rights or equal pay is to imagine a future where all-female committees are just as common as all-male ones. In other words, gender equity.

Many are interpreting Lövin’s image as a direct response to a recent photo of dear leader Donald Trump and his cabal of ego-fluffing boy toys.

  8. biden booted?

    the hill:

Those X-rays revealed hairline fractures in the foot, and the president-elect will wear a walking boot for “several weeks,” according to his campaign in a statement later Sunday evening.

“Initial x-rays did not show any obvious fracture, but his clinical exam warranted more detailed imaging. Follow-up CT scan confirmed hairline (small) fractures of President-elect Biden’s lateral and intermediate cuneiform bones, which are in the mid-foot. It is anticipated that he will likely require a walking boot for several weeks,” said O’Connor.

  9. biden boot?

some lyrics in that old nancy sinatra hit are fitting in re biden boots d’ump:

You keep lyin’ when you ought to be truthin’
You keep losin’ when you ought to not bet
You keep samin’ when you ought to be changin’
Now what’s right is right, but you ain’t been right yet

These boots are made for walkin’
And that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days, these boots are gonna walk all over you

  10. i’m glad too the only photo was a thumbs up outside doc ofc.   sure don’t want to see what they’d do with pix like carter and the bunny beast, gwh bush hurling at dinner, ford fall, etc.  those sure led to a one year term.

If you saw a man standing on a soap box spouting insanities, you’d walk away. For 4 years we’ve been listening to a mentally ill man spout insanities. It’s time to walk away.

  12. Well….   duh….  everyone knows that women are better communicators than men.  Bout time someone acknowledged it!

  13. Weird translations are the realm of online translation tools.  Although these improve all the time, they still get a bit screwy.  A translation of a few sentences provided an output similar to how those translate Finnish to English.  The one I just looked at was in German, French and Italian (it was a bicycle racer using several languages at once).  The output was a mix of English, German, French and Italian.
This is an example of why some languages are difficult to translate.

  14. I HATE going back to the office after a holiday.  Too damn many threads to pick up.

So Dumbass is losing the certification battle – PA, Wisconsin, now Arizona.  Give it up and GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR HOUSE.

Just watched the Melania 1 minute white house decoration video.  She appeared for 5 seconds of the 60 by my count, and didn’t utter a word.  She coulda phoned that in.

  15. How Biden won: He built on Clinton's successes

President-elect Joe Biden was nominated by Democratic primary voters in large part because of his perceived electability in the general election. Biden proved primary voters right by winning and by doing considerably better than Democratic House candidates.

Yet Biden has won in a way that was perhaps surprising to some. He was the first candidate to win without taking at least Florida or Ohio since 1960. Biden did considerably worse with Hispanics than Hillary Clinton in municipalities throughout the country.
And Biden won the presidency even as President Donald Trump’s base largely stuck with him.
So how’d he do it? Biden’s pathway to victory intensified the gains Clinton made in 2016. In doing so, he became the seventh Democrat in eight times to win the popular vote, which is the first time since 1828 that one party won the popular vote that often in eight straight elections.

  16. Trump Lawyer: DHS Whistleblower Should Be Executed During Newsmax call-in Joe diGenova said Chris Krebs should be put to death.

On Monday President Trump’s campaign lawyer and former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova said that fired Trump cybersecurity chief Chris Krebs should be executed for saying that the election was the “most secure in United States history.”
DiGenova, appearing on the Howie Carr show, which simulcasts on Newsmax, took aim at Krebs as an aside during a wheels-off segment full of false claims about how the United States election had been rigged.
“Anybody who thinks the election went well, like that idiot Krebs who used to be the head of cybersecurity [for Trump]. That guy is a class A moron. He should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot,” diGenova said.

  17. HALLELUJAH!!! From CNN

Dr. Scott Atlas, a highly controversial member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, has resigned from his post in the Trump administration, according to a person who works with the task force.

Another source close to the task force said on Monday that Atlas’ departure comes as welcome news, as his discredited theories will no longer have a seat at the table.

Thank God. Fewer Grandparents will die.

  18. IS THERE A LAWYER IN THE HOUSE??

Steve Bannon said or printed publicly that Dr. Fauci should be beheaded.

Joe diGenova, on of Trump’s lawyers,  said today that  Chris Krebs should be  drawn & quartered and shot.

Is there NO punishment for this kind of talk, public talk?

  19. Ok, who did this?
I just got this email forwarded to me from one of our support organizations.
“I am a British TV producer and we are developing a TV series for Discovery Network about neighbours who help out with dilapidated properties. I have read about  the good work carried out by the McCoy Park Neighbours. I am struggling to find a way to contact them. Do you have an email for the group  ”
I just told Mrs Jack to get her ass back here, enough of this bullshit we have work to do.
