UN General Assembly: Ukraine’s Zelenskyy questions why Russia still has a a seat at the table | AP News

NEW YORK (AP) — Days before potentially crossing paths with Russia’s top diplomat at the United Nations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested Monday that the world body needs to answer for allowing his country’s invader a seat at the tables of power.
“For us, it’s very important that all our words, all our messages, will be heard by our partners. And if in the United Nations still — it’s a pity, but still — there is a place for Russian terrorists, the question is not to me. I think it’s a question to all the members of the United Nations,” Zelenskyy said after visiting wounded Ukrainian military members at a New York hospital.
He had just arrived in the U.S. to make his country’s case to the world and to Washington for continued help in trying to repel Russia’s invasion, nearly 19 months into what has become a grinding war.

The Democratic Party isn’t “hemming and hawing over a Biden/Harris ticket”. IT’S THE MEDIA AND THE GOP. Period. End of sentence. The MEDIA are the only folks questioning his age or her fitness. JFC, STOP IT.

  4. This effort to establish a theocratic fascist dictatorship is a VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY
(Where have I heard THAT before?)

Just take a good look at the forces and the power of those forces arrayed against the survival of democracy in America. Start with Putin, and FOX tv, add all the billionaires and a complicit Republican Party with their “useful idiot” base.
And who is standing against them?
Joe by god Biden, that’s who.
The time for tepid response is long Past.

Sorry, Serpent Head, I love you dearly, but you’re wrong on this one.

  5. @DanaBash
What does CA Governor @GavinNewsom think of concerns about President Biden’s age as he seeks reelection? “I want a seasoned pro that knows how to get things done.” He also gives an unequivocal answer about @vp Kamala Harris. Here’s more of our conversation:

  6. sturge, to your point about obviousness, here’s part of a rather colorful analysis piece from Oliver Darcy back in july:

Elon Musk has officially killed Twitter. The zombie platform lives on as X, a disfigured shell of its former self | CNN Business

X might resemble Twitter. It might occupy the same address on the internet that Twitter once did. But make no mistake, it is not the same platform it once was — even as recently as nine months ago, when Musk took over, quickly decapitated the former leadership, and threw the company into chaos and turmoil.
That platform has ceased to be. It arguably died some time ago, before it was announced to the public by way of a sudden and disorderly rebranding.
In many ways, Musk has done to Twitter what Donald Trump did to the Republican Party: wholly remade it in his own image. At least, with Musk, the deformed entity is getting a different name, one that allows the public to perhaps separate Twitter from what Musk has transformed it into.
X will, of course, inherit all of Twitter’s business problems. Musk is the entity that has proven toxic to advertisers and much of the user base, not the widely recognized bird logo. How the billionaire ultimately turns that ship around is unclear, particularly as he faces new competition from Mark Zuckerberg and Threads.
So far, however, there is little hope Musk will be able to successfully steer the ship out of iceberg-ridden waters. He is, after all, the captain who led the ship into them — all while manically laughing alongside his inner circle while standing at the wheel.

  7. Let’s see……. they got storm troopers who have already invaded Congress and who are only one election away from a total pardon making them free to roam the streets again, they got themselves a fat old god-man to worship and obey (or else), they adorn themselves with nazi flags and swastikas and they go around chanting “Jews will not replace us”, their adherents shoot and kill people in synagogues and black churches, (by their hats you shall know them)…….
they WILL set bombs for their god…….

So, once again, what would be the reason that they are not simply referred to in the tv news as “Nazis”?

  8. Apppeal to blacks?
     Talk about a lead balloon.

They’re in a BOX . They ain’t gonna appeal to Nobody that ain’t already in that box with ‘em.

If the focus stays on THEM, they’re just gonna stay there.

  9. I can see why the Trump campaign would go after a few points among young black men above their 2020 numbers. That is a group, for whatever reason, where Biden is now softer than in 2020. We need to remember that even the slightest movement one way or the other can make a difference. Biden won last time by less than 45,000 votes in 3 states: Arizona, Georgia and Wisconsin.

  10. https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/19/americas/lula-unga-2023-brazil-intl-latam/index.html

“Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva put inequality and the climate crisis at the center of a speech Tuesday that opened the annual UN General Debate in New York, lamenting that the international community has “numbed” to its responsibility to care for the world’s poor.”

“…Lula also touted a new geopolitical order that could challenge the West’s global economic sway, and pushed for greater dialogue around the war in Ukraine.”

“Rich countries grew based on a model with high rates of climate damaging gas emissions,” he said. “We, developing countries, do not want to repeat this model. In Brazil we have already proven once and will prove again that a socially fair and environmentally sustainable model is possible.”

“Lula has tried to fashion himself as a potential broker for peace amid Russia’s war in Ukraine, putting forward earlier this year a controversial plan for negotiations. While not clearly defined, the proposal involved forming a coalition of other similarly unaligned countries to mediate.”

“Still, Lula has faced criticism for his administration’s investments in fossil fuels, including plans for a possible off-shore drilling project.”

“In remarks earlier Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted that G20 countries, among them Brazil, are responsible for 80 percent of greenhouse emissions.”

“They must break their addiction to fossil fuels,” Guterres said.

  11. Craig – “for whatever reason” is the work Jim Clyburn did to turn out black voters for Biden in 2020.

We need to hear more from Stacey Abrams, Raphael Warnock, etc., but maybe it’s too early in the cycle.

  12. Zelensky tells UN Russia is weaponizing food, energy and children in its war against Ukraine (lemonde.fr)

Russia is ‘weaponizing’ food, energy, abducted children in war on Ukraine Zelensky says in fiery UN speech (nypost.com)

    https://news.un.org/en/story/2023/09/1141002

Since the start of the war, Ukrainian ports in the Black and Azov seas were blocked by Russia and its ports on the Danube River targeted by drones and missiles, he said.
“It is a clear Russian attempt to weaponize the food shortage on the global market, in exchange for recognition of some, if not all, of the captured territories.”
The impact of that weaponization is seen from Africa to South-East Asia, he said.
“Nukes are not the scariest thing now. Mass destruction is gaining momentum. The aggressor is weaponizing many other things … things that are being used not only against our country but also yours as well,” he said, adding:
“There are many conventions against weapons but none against weaponization … of global food supplies and energy.”

  13. https://www.thedailybeast.com/john-fetterman-turns-the-tables-on-marjorie-taylor-greenes-senate-dress-code-outrage

“The Senate no longer enforcing a dress code for Senators to appease Fetterman is disgraceful,” Greene had written on X, the site formerly known as Twitter. “Dress code is one of society’s standards that set etiquette and respect for our institutions. Stop lowering the bar!”

There was a dress code? Please explain the sound of crickets on that subject from the comical attire of Kristen Synema.

It sounds like MGT is jelly of the attention Booblehead is getting, and trying to set herself up as the true, gun-totin’ conservative woman. Fetterman’s clapback about MGT showing d-picks was glorious.

  14. Young Black and Hispanic men appear to be Biden’s softest numbers compared to 2020. He still leads both but just not as much, partly explaining why he is tied with Trump in all recent polls. I’m sure the campaign is well aware of this, will be interesting to see how they deal with it. I don’t have any ideas.

White non-college voters also a consequential problem area. He lost them last time but now is a bit further behind, enough so to put Midwest battleground states in play.

Despite the kooky talk about replacing Biden I challenge anyone to name another Democrat who can do well enough among Blacks, Hispanics and White non-college to win the Electoral College — especially since he’s already done it once.

  15. Craig – last election for president the Dems had a great slate.  But, as time marched on the one person who I thought would be out was in, Joe Biden.  It turns out he is the right person at the right time to deal with huge and horrible events and decisions.  Those horrible events and decisions are still hitting and there is no Dem or gqp person out there who could do the job. Part of the next years will be breaking the Nazi and white supremacists down, which means the gqp.

It will be a tough time.  So many people are convinced that the gqp will do the right thing, except they are not the 0.5% and do not have money.  I am with Joe and Kamala!

  16. I guess the Jewish money well has dried up for Trump.   I wonder what Ivanka and Jared think of his recent remarks.

  17. I have no problem with Vice President Harris and can’t figure out why so many do. Democrat or Republican, Man or Woman, every time I ask someone complaining about her I don’t get a coherent answer, just some sort of feeling that people can’t articulate but won’t let go. A few weeks ago the Biden team put one of the party’s best longtime fixers, Anita Dunn, in charge of a reset, hence the heightened focus on abortion and civil rights, plus some slick TV ads, that boosted her numbers in the base. So, they’re working on it and they’re a smart bunch, they’ll figure it out.

  18. I have no problem with VP Harris, but the question was who, besides POTUS Joe, who could do as well among all of those groups you listed.  Michelle Obama is that person.
Listen, the Dem bench is strong: Warren, Klobuchar, Ossoff, etc., but Biden has the experience and the temperament for the job and I’m happy he wants to keep it.

  19. https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/19/politics/apoorva-vivek-ramaswamy-covid-vaccine/index.html

“Apoorva Ramaswamy, wife of Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, said she does not regret taking the Covid-19 vaccine, breaking with her husband on a central issue of the biotech entrepreneur’s outsider campaign thus far.”

“Her view on the vaccine differs from that of her husband, who has previously said he regrets taking the Covid vaccine and has repeatedly lambasted the federal government’s efforts to produce and distribute the vaccine, arguing that the government lied about its efficacy and its possible side effects.”

“Ramaswamy, a throat cancer surgeon at Ohio State University, told NBC News that said she would take the Covid vaccine again if given the chance, stressing the importance of being vaccinated while treating her patients. She also emphasized the importance of “autonomy” in recommending medical treatments to her patients and said her decision to take the vaccine was different for her than for her “young, healthy husband.”

OK, well, she’s a bad doctor. There’s a difference between medical issues that are and are not a matter of public health.

  20. I haven’t watched the interview and now I don’t have to.

“IF YOU CAME TO THIS INTERVIEW hoping that Welker or NBC News would refute every lie Trump told, you’ll be disappointed. But I don’t think exhaustive refutation is what we need. In polls, Trump is running even with Biden because many Americans are unhappy with the economy, and most see Biden as old and tired. These people need to be reacquainted with the reality of Trump. They need to be reminded how recklessly he makes decisions, how poorly he controls his impulses, how ruthlessly he lies, and how impervious he is to correction. They need to be reminded how callously he disregards his oath of office and how little he cares about anyone but himself. They need to be reminded what a psychopath he is. That’s what Welker accomplished. She has done her job.”
