    Bink, I commend your last post on the previous thread. I only go to the self checkout registers if the store has one, and of the stores I frequent only drug stores don’t (well, except for what we refer to as the ghetto Kroger, which I only go to as a last resort).

  11. pogo, Kroger is now reserving opening hours every Tuesday Wednesday Thursday for seniors only.   in KY, Kroger stores are equivalent quality-wise to Publix further south.   not sure what you meant by “ghetto”

  13. The “ghetto” Kroger is located in an area of town that I would not have Mrs. P go to and walk around after dark. There’s been a lot of drug crimes in that area and it’s adjacent to a bunch of ramshackle the rental properties that these days are best known to be habituated by a lot of people involved in crime and drug use.
     
    I will likely be taking advantage of the early morning hours at Kroger Walmart and target depending upon what we need.

    I saw on the news where some of the Hy-Vee stores are putting a plexiglass barrier between the clerk and customer. Good precautions, imo. 
    A couple of days ago I returned some building materials to lowes. The young lady wanted to know if I wanted the money put back on the card or cash. I just laughed and said put it on the card, I don’t need any of that germy money. I then pulled out my bottle of hand sanitizer and said, “I’m prepared” She smile real big reached in her pocket brought out a small bottle and said “Me too”

  42. Jack – just got back from Giant grocery.  They had a jerry rigged plexiglass sheet hanging in front of the cashiers.  Rather rough looking.  Sad to say I did look for nasty splatters, at least there was cleaning sweep marks.
     
    One of the hard things I had to face happended while I was on my way to Giant.  A neighbor I have not seen since last fall was walking by.  I stopped and we chatted a bit, trying to catch up.  She kept at least fifteen feed away while we talked.  I noticed she was wearing blue nitrile gloves, the type I use doing truck work.  I then dug out and offered one of my Buena Ventura business cards.  She jumped back, ‘don’t touch anything anymore’ I then I understood the gloves.  She was scared SFBless.  Now, she has always been a hermit type, a bit less sure of the world then others I know.  The media has been unrelenting for at least six weeks.  She does not watch the faux world, but the MSNBC world (which is damned scary if you just tune in for a few minutes).  I left watching her walk home and avoiding the man walking a dog.

    My financial fix for the world:  Everything stops for three months.  We have one quarter where all accounts are frozen.  Businesses/people don’t collect or pay.
    Everybody “non-essential” sews medical gowns, gardens, helps their neighbors from a distance, reads, creates, sleeps.
    Needs are met with no money involved.
    When we get back to work and folks go back to work, we resume financial goings-on.
    Everything on Star Trek eventually comes true.  The Federation stopped using money.

  55. The latest on the Amazon delivery meltdown.  Although the rye flour was delivered almost twelve hours prior to the final estimated time of delivery, it was still five days later than the first time of delivery
    Today I was buying a server and some extra parts.  Nice pricey stuff.  The shopping cart gave a two day delivery.  Run it through and pay for it . . . the delivery date moved from March 26 to April 22.  Ya Hoo.  Took a few seconds to cancel that order.  Went to another seller, B H Photo, and all went through with a delivery date of March 26. 
     
    Amazon has to be doing that on purpose to get rid of buyers.  Even though it showed the system was in stock, at Amazon, it could not ship twenty miles from the warehouse to my location in a month.  They have to be sophisticated enough to know that people like me have multiple sources for the products.   And that delivery is key to buying from any of them.
     
    Amazon, and all the others, from local food delivery to Amazon to FEDEX to UPS, they are paying premium to find drivers and deliverers.  Yet it is not enough right now.

    Because of these concerns, CDC urges caution when considering these drugs in patients with chronic medical conditions or those who are receiving medications that might interact and cause arrythmias — problems with the heartbeat’s rate or rhythm.
     
    However, the agency notes that it has been reportedly well-tolerated in COVID-19 patients.

    SFB is being reckless by encouraging the use of these drugs until the safety and efficacy of their use in age cohorts and exposure cohorts has been established.  The people who are likely to need them most (Remember, 80% of cases resolve without treatment) are those who appear to be at least potentially most at risk from the drugs themselves if they are not COVID-19 victims. The doctors and dentists who are taking and prescribing these drugs to people who are not infected is as reckless as SFB suggesting that they re likely to be the biggest game changer in medical history.  (I guess he’s never heard of penicillin, flu vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, DPT, MMR or sterile technique in surgery.  Fucking moron).
