Bernie’s Last Stand?

Your debate thread here 8pm ET on CNN.

Bernie Sanders in the hot seat. He’s losing ground to Elizabeth Warren for the most progressive challenger. While she has steadily moved up in the polls among liberals, he has steadily declined.

Tomorrow we see Biden and Harris for headliners.

  1. So will it be Progressive vs Moderate, Old vs middle age, M4A vs Universal health care, vs expanded ACA?

Why  is Williamson in there at all?  Magic Mushrooms all around?

  2. At some point he is going to figure out that at least half the females in the party hate his guts.  He’s a little slow, but I think it is starting to sink in.  I’m not being attacked on line as much lately by the Bernie Bros.  I think even they are starting to give up the ghost.

  3. I know.  I’m hanging in with her in hopes of a VP or Cabinet slot if she wants it.  She doesn’t have the personal power presence to run as President.

  4. Her state where she is recognized as brilliant, competent, hard working and with a total command of the issues would keep electing her.  She certainly could perform, but she just isn’t a great candidate for the top job.

  5. Craig

You are right about a wide bench for a great cabinet.  As yet, no one including Biden, feels like someone who could stand up against Trump other than possibly Harris.  Let’s see how she does tomorrow night.

  6. When nailed down on it, she says yes taxes will go up, but since there will be no monthly payments or co pays the total cost will go down.  Of course on Medicare, my SS gets $100 a month deducted and I have co-pays for any appt other than my primary physician at $45 per visit, so even Medicare isn’t free.

  7. I keep one of these people to explain how the rest of the developed world does it.  Most are some variation on the Beveridge (UK Canada) and Bismark (Belgium and most european).  We have what amounts to 50 countries in search of a government.  It will require some combination of the two types to work.

Four Basic Types of Health Care Systems

  8. Right before the debate started there was an anti-medicare for all ad–  I did not get into the room with the tv to see who paid for it

  9. The answer to the middle class tax hike to support Medicare for all is “Yes, of course.  But not nearly as much as on higher wage earners and the tax applies to all income. None of this excluding investment income bullshit.”

BTW this 1 min, 30sec, 15 sec format sacrifices explanation for entertainment. It’s like watching a monkey fucking a football.

Also, although he’s the crazy uncle the kids avoid at thanksgiving dinner, Bernie’s not completely getting slaughtered.

  10. We will have to see how tomorrow shakes out to see who from this group stays.  I think

    Warren, Klobuchar, O’Rourk, Buttigieg

The others all sort of fade into the background

  11. What’re the rules to get into the next round?  Isn’t there a 200 page summary somewhere out there?

  12. Poobah, right. Has a lot in common with a monkey …

It’s hard to to get enough info out in a minute to make any impact.

Bernies getting ready to spit. DUCK!

  13. How is it that the question is about Bernie Sanders? Same is manifestly unfair to the other candidates to me.

  14. We’ll see.  Biden just feels to weak and old to go against the viciousness of Trump plus as Obama says “Joe says stuff” with gaffes are him.  Warren is too far left for the majority of the voters.

So far these are the ones who have qualified for September though some might decide to drop out:

    • Former Vice President Joe Biden
    • South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg
    • California Sen. Kamala Harris
    • Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke
    • Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders
    • Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren
    • Yang & Klobuchar have met one of the criteria and still need the second
    •

  15. Pogo…  I could kiss you for bringing up the format.  This debate is stooopid!  Jake Tapper gets to spend more time talking than some of these candidates get to answer questions.

  16. Requirements for the September debate

Under tougher entry requirements for the Democratic National Committee debates, candidates must reach 2% or above support in at least four approved polls, in addition to at least 130,000 unique donors. That must be spread across at least 400 donors spread over a minimum of 20 states.

  17. Renee, thanks. If I ever get back up your way I’ll take that kiss. It’s a line I stole from a movie – Days of Thunder – delivered by the certifiably nutz Randy Quaid – while he was still arguably a little sane.

Too bad Delaney won’t make the next cut. He makes for entertaining TeeVee.

  18. Damn it, stop the split screen with Bernie in one half no matter who’s speaking.

    Great question Poobah. Why indeed?

  19. The gov of Montana pointed out that goopers are the obstacle to progress —
I wonder what he has in mind to get rid of them

  20. what’s up with Buddagaga’s hair  he looks like one of the kids on the munsters

  21. Warren protected Bernie. The sense of alliance will help when she moves to scoop up all of his supporters.

  22. Well, I wouldn’t call tonight must see tv but if it thins the herd it’s must be tv.

  23. Tweety is an idjit. A lifetime in political punditry and he still hasn’t a clue. The campaign is not going to revolve around socialism vs capitalism, or whether we can pay for health care for all without taxes. It is going to be about national security, investing in America, corruption and rape.
Warren, Bernie, Buttigieg and Klobuchar had good lines. The rest were entirely forgettable.

  24. 1. I have no doubt that Warren is peeling Berniecans away.
    2. I don’t think Biden should say, ‘Fuck you trump !’ However, I think that he should say one of 3 things :
    a. that trump is putin’s puppet or agent, weakening our nation, b. that trump is a rapist, and America won’t support a rapist, c. that trump is a big sissy, who wears hair dye, makeup, lipstick, perfume and silk underwear – “not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s perfectly okay by me – but you’ve gotta admit, he is a yuuuj sissy.”
