newsweek:
Rep. Veronica Escobar, a Texas Democrat, spoke to MSNBC after visiting a hospital treating victims of the El Paso shooting, many of who were Hispanic. She told All In host Chris Hayes that they gave her a message for Trump ahead of his trip to the city.
“This community is full of hope and resilience and beauty. But the other thing that I heard, totally unsolicited, from victims still in the hospital as they’d grab my arm and tell me, ‘Tell him not to come here,'” Escobar said.
The White House did not respond immediately to Newsweek‘s request for comment. President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are scheduled to arrive in El Paso at around 1.45 p.m. local time and stay for around 2.5 hours.
The congresswoman, who has also told President Trump not to visit El Paso, said she also spoke to a Vietnam veteran called Ralph who said: “I am being made to feel like I’m not American.”
“And so as I said via Twitter, and I’ve said before, words are powerful and words have consequences,” Escobar added.
“The words that he’s used to dehumanize us, to dehumanize communities like mine, to dehumanize immigrants, they have a consequence, and they provide fuel for people who already are bigoted.
Another day, another day of SFB making it all about himself. He is not normal, he is a low intelligence (100 = average, could he be as low as 80?), narcissist, bigot, white supremacist and, as many say, syphilitic. He needs to be removed and take the idiot (maybe gay) bobble head with him.
He has no shame, so there is no moral method of quieting him. He should go to some hole of a golf course and stay there.
22 people in my hometown are dead after an act of terror inspired by your racism. El Paso will not be quiet and neither will I. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1158950196560171014 âŚ
@realDonaldTrump
Beto (phony name to indicate Hispanic heritage) OâRourke, who is embarrassed by my last visit to the Great State of Texas, where I trounced him, and is now even more embarrassed by polling at 1% in the Democrat Primary, should respect the victims & law enforcement – & be quiet!

O’Rourke fires back at Trump: ‘El Paso will not be quiet and neither will I’
[âŚ]
OâRourke announced on Tuesday evening that he would be attending a Wednesday event to pay tribute to the victims of the shooting and counter Trumpâs visit to the city.
“When President Trump comes to El Paso tomorrow, I will be joining our strong, beautiful, binational community at #ElPasoStrong. I hope to see you there,” the El Paso native tweeted.
O’Rourke also said Trumpâs rhetoric contributed to the shooting, joining Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) in saying the president is not welcome in the area.

âDonald Trump gets a lot wrong, but he outdid himself today. Today, he became the first president of the United States ever to misspell his own name.â â JIMMY KIMMEL
âDonald âTtumpâ? I guess when your fingers are covered in dippinâ sauce that happens.â â JIMMY KIMMEL
âHow can you misspell your name when itâs on your buildings, your golf course, your vodka, your water and all the casinos you bankrupted? Itâs everywhere.â â JIMMY KIMMEL
âI have to believe if Sarah Huckabee Sanders was still alive, God rest her soul, sheâd be out on the White House lawn shouting that his name is and has always been Donald Ttump. Weâre too fake news to know it.â â JIMMY KIMMEL
âWhen Don Jr. saw that, he was like, âI canât believe Iâve been spelling it wrong this whole time!ââ â JIMMY FALLON
âMeanwhile, staffers told Trump he misspelled his name. He tweeted this, âSorry, I meant to say Ddnald Ttump.ââ â JIMMY FALLON
âNow, I wasnât sure who Donald Ttump was, so I Googled him, and it said he was a tuh-torrible tacist who shouldnât be puhtesident.â â STEPHEN COLBERT

âŚ.So, on Monday night, at the offices of the Border Network, some fifty local immigrant advocates, current and former elected officials, and residents met to discuss how to prepare for Trumpâs visit on Wednesday afternoon. (I was invited to attend the gathering.)
Representative Veronica Escobar, whose district encompasses El Paso, spoke first. Escobar has been among the most prominent elected officials calling out the President and his role in the shooting since it took place. âHeâs visiting two hospitals and then heâs leaving,â Escobar told those gathered. Members of the audience sighed. âAnd then, the next day, Ted Cruz is visiting.â Louder sighs.

Then Estela Reyes Lopez, from the Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, a network of community health facilities, stood up. âI feel a lot of anger from many of you. And I think we need to be angry.â She went on, âMaybe it means laying down in the street. Iâm all for that. Maybe it means blocking the airport. I donât know. Maybe it means civil disobedience.â Lopez continued, âThe world is watching us. We cannot stand before the world holding flowers, wearing white. Iâm sorry. We can do that any day of the week. This is an opportunity to call him out on our streets. We need to show him how we truly feel. I love the idea of giving him our backs. Nothing stings a narcissist pig more than your back.â
A few minutes later, Bobby Byrd, a retired local publisher, made a suggestion that sparked laughter and clapping. âI think everybody should speak Spanish when he comes here,â he said.
Another call was made to find a consensus around exactly what kind of demonstration to pursue on Wednesday.
Garcia noted that a smaller group would work on logistics. He summed up the past hour of discussion. âThis is what we have so far,â Garcia said. âFirst, we want to come together as a proud community in El Paso. Secondly, we want to put out the stories of our familiesâand, potentially, even the stories of the people that were impacted, if we get their permission. Third, we want to do a powerful, symbolic, but peaceful event,â not civil disobedience at this time. âAnd finally,â he said, âthat we would like to see people from across the borderâfrom Chihuahua and elsewhereâthere.â A lawyer mentioned that her clients from across the border would only be able to come if they werenât worried about being arrested.
Garcia solicited affirmation from the group on three points. Gun reform: âYes!â The rejection of xenophobia and racism: âYes!â And thirdly, he said, âWhat Trump represents is not welcome in El Paso.â An even louder, âYes!â Garcia went on, âHe wonât be welcome until he repents, asks for forgiveness, learns Spanish. And he ends the strategies violating the rights of our communities.â Garcia continued, âHeâs not gonna do it. But because of that, heâs not welcome in El Paso. People can express this silently or yell it. Is that all correct?â Once more, the crowd thundered, âYes!â
Just watched a few minutes of Faux & Friends for the first time. In walks Don Jr., Donorrhea Jr. He’s like a Kelly Ann’s mouth, a ducks ass. He spent most of the time jabbering about a headline in a newspaper! Oh, yeah, the NYT. The rest of the time was about poor him. He mentioned that Castro posted a list of Donnorrhea’s donors in San Antonio. Hooray Julian!
Trump response to Dayton, El Paso massacres: Darcy cartoon.
Watching all those cranked-out westerns, I see that the boomers and their parents to a great degree, came up to adulthood under the cloud of the-good-guy-with-a-gun syndrome. Townâs being run by ruthless and corrupt saloon-owner or rich rancher and his evil minions: the GGWAG comes loping into town and uses his Winchester and Colt 44 to set things at peace again by shooting all the bad eggs while all the helpless towns folk cower behind their curtains. (Those folks who donât cower usually get shot.)
Then…..he either settles down there with his new fair maiden friend to be the town Law Enforcer/start his own ranch; or, if she happens to have died during the main shootout, he rides off in a westerly direction drawn on by his eternal wanderlust. Â Â
Then there are the gangsters, the war flicks, yada yada…….
The good guy with a gun.
Itâs the code of the west.
One morning in the Army-Navy Club in Myrtle Beach (band played midnight to 6 AM) this rounder from Horry County (pronounced O-Ree) comes in, gets drunkerân hell, picks a fight and then starts beating up on people. Big dude. Beat up the bartender, both the bouncers, couple of innocent by-standers, slapped around a waitress, until finally Billy Joe Johnson gets there. Billy Joe was Sock-eyeâs second in command. They kinda square off and Billy Joe pulls a little .25 auto out of the pocket of his windbreaker and plugs the guy in the fleshy part of his thigh. So heâs down hollering and Billy Joe tells him, âNow you go on back to O-Ree County and tell them thereâs people down here in Myrtle Beach whoâre a hell of a lot crazier than yâall are.â
The bandâs orders in times like these are to turn on the house lights and play Johnny B Goode loud and fast till itâs over.Â
There was some tough monkeys up in Horry County, and they would all traipse on down to Myrtleâs gambling palaces to get their itches scratched. Â Story is that one time long ago Charleston emptied its prisons by settling them all up there.

pence is down on his knees; trump just stands there tweeting and enjoying.
Mr Sturgeone, Your tale sort of reminds me of the cleansing of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Over there it was crazy farm boys returning from the war, who chased out the crazy mafia, who’d spent the war at the Springs.Â
Sequel : out west in Las Vegas there were no crazed farm boys.Â
Wm Price Fox has a great story about a Charleston/Myrtle Beach gambler and his adventures in his collection of short stories SOUTHERN FRIED+6 but I canât remember the story name.
I’ve been hoping that a bunch of truckers or suburban moms would swarm onto the runway with their respective vehicles to prevent The 7 Deadly Sins from landing at El Paso.Â
another day another poll
the hill:
Former Vice President Joe Biden leads the crowded Democratic field by six points in an Economist/YouGov poll released on Wednesday.
The poll found Biden as the first choice for 22 percent of those surveyed, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) with 16 percent and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) with 13 percent.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg rounded out the top five, both with 8 percent, according to the poll.
The survey, conducted Aug. 3-6 among 1500 U.S. adult citizens, found Biden continuing to maintain stronger numbers among African American voters than the general primary electorate, with 33 percent identifying him as their first choice, followed by 13 percent for Warren and 10 percent for Sanders.
The poll has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points and 2.9 percentage points among registered voters.
Both Warren and Sanders have lost ground from a July 27-30 poll, which also showed Biden in first place at 26 percent and Warren at 18 percent.
The YouGov poll marks the second survey this week to show Warren in second place, following a Tuesday Quinnipiac poll that showed Biden in the lead with 32 percent support, a two-point drop from the previous survey, and Warren with 21 percent, a five-point gain from last month.
Rubber Duck
rac¡ism
/ËrÄËsizÉm/
noun
Â
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.
^since apparently no one, especially white conservatives, understands what that word means. That last phrase is what makes it âracismâ- âthe belief that oneâs own race is superiorâ.
So, if i say âwhite people are crazy murdering assholesâ, thatâs not a racist statement because iâm not making any assertion of superiority.
Got it? Good.
patd,
I think you have to look at a longer period than 2 polls for Economist/YouGov – they put them out frequently.  That latest Economist /YouGov poll is consistent with its prior poll results for Biden (26% in the 7/27-30 poll, 25% in its 7/21-23 poll, and he was in the 22 & 23% range in the first couple weeks of July), Sanders (who has been at 12-13% throughout July) and  Warren, who’s ‘s been in the 16-20% range in E/Y polls throughout  July.  It does bear noting that in that poll Harris has shown a loss of around 7 points since the beginning of July.  RCP.
C.W. McCall – LOL. Â He’s partially responsible for my screen alias.(Actually, his big song Convoy came out several years after I went off to college, but all that redneckky trucker CB shit was already popular). Â Back when I was headed off to college, there being no cell phones and me driving cars that cost less than $1000 and that had certain propensities to unexpectedly stop running (like when the rocker arm fell off the right side head of my 64 bug while I was on I20/59 (in Fairfield headed home for the weekend one Friday evening) my dad insisted that I put a CB radio in my car in case I needed to hail the police or someone in an emergency. Â Came in handy that night, BTW. Â So I had to have a handle. Â And it was, wait for it, Pogo. Â I never really talked on the radio but it was a bit of fun listening to the truckers. Â Heard some funny conversations, loaded with innuendo and double entendres when the guys were trying to line up a little … relaxation … at the 76 truck stop in Cottondale, AL. Â
Wait- the truckers were arranging liaisons with each other?

By the way, SCOTUS be damned, iâm convinced the 2nd amendment doesn’t afford anyone the right to even OWN a gun. Â You can âbearâ one, meaning you can carry it. Â Carrying something does not necessarily imply ownership, and the highly-educated English people that helped write the Constitution understood the existence and meaning of the words âownâ, âpossessâ, âpropertyâ, etc..
bink, who knows perhaps those “highly-educated English people that helped write the Constitution” meant something else, like one of the many other uses for the verb “bear” from tolerating something unpleasant to giving birth to found in the Cambridge dictionary
while we’re at it nit-picking wise, the strange idea of race seems to me a bit non-sensical. the bigots would be more correct in targeting differences of ethnicity, tribe, linguistic group, etc than something that doesn’t scientifically exist. but then they care less about what science says.

Trump lashes out against Biden as former vice-president delivers speech on white supremacy
So it looks like the televisions on Air Force One are working. En route between Dayton and El Paso to meet with victims of this weekendâs shootings, Trump lashed out against Joe Biden as he delivered a speech condemning the president for having âfanned the flames of white supremacy.â
1. We’re all out of Africa, except for the people who are still there.
2. The idea of an invasion of Indian people across our southern border is asinine. Indians were here 20,000 years ago. Whites invaded the Indians’ lands 500 years ago or less. The drumpf tribe invaded the Indians’ lands and ran a disease-spreading brothel less than 150 years ago. Send them back to Slobovia. (But, lock them all up, FIRST)Â
Sorry Con Don, Uncle Joe just gutted you like the stuck pig you are
âWeâre all out of Africa, except for the people who are still there.â -x
Heresy! Â Next youâll be telling me the Earth is round, or even more ridiculous, that itâs an âoblate spheroidâ.

Letâs be real, good Sir: said âpigâ has a stranglehold on power and operates with literal impunity.

I sense coordination between the Booker and Biden campaigns on the timing and content of their Charleston and Iowa speeches. Me be suspicious. Biden/Booker a damn good bumper sticker.
Biden/Booker seems like a decent ticket, if i thought Biden could win, which i donât. Â Hopefully, iâm wrong about that.
All the 2016 polls were wrong a week out from the GE, i donât understand why Dem-influencers trust them so much, now, more than a year away from the next GE.

Bink, the Obama legacy to block, hence Biden.
âthe Obama legacyâ
-you mean the Obama legacy that Trump almost completely erased in his first 3 months in office? Â Are we SURE thatâs wise?Â
Convoy was popular when I was sitting in the swamps of Mississippi. It was very popular with the locals.
Welp, May I assume then, that you are also familiar with âTeddy Bearâ?
a masterpiece of country music proportions.

Biden/Klobuchar – Gender and Geographic mix – Outpoint:Â Same race

Biden/Castro – Geographically good. Racial mix good. Outpoint:  Both Male
Phillip Bump in WaPo fleshed out what I posted to start the day about Donorrhea Jr. Read that or better yet listen to the original. It’s probably on Faux or YouTube.
Craig, tell David that there’s no sitting on the Spanish Steps anymore. There’s an ordinance against it.
