    The US is set to stage its largest ever day of protest over the climate crisis, with tens of thousands of students joined by adults in abandoning schools and workplaces for a wave of strikes across the country.
    Climate strikes will take place in more than 1,000 locations in the US on Friday, with major rallies in New York, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Miami. Globally, more than 4,500 strikes are planned across 150 countries.
    The young strikers’ totemic figure, the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, will take part in the New York walkout and will speak to massed protesters in Manhattan. Authorities in New York City have announced that its student population of 1.1 million is able to skip school in order to attend the strikes.

    White House counselor Kellyanne Conway‘s husband George Conway said Thursday that if a report detailing President Trump‘s involvement in pressuring Ukraine’s government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden is true, Trump should be impeached “without delay.”

    The conservative lawyer and frequent critic of the president tweeted out a report from The Independent that detailed a phone call between Trump and Ukraine’s president suggesting that U.S.-Ukraine relations would improve if the Biden investigation was launched.

  6. that quid pro quo “ suggesting that U.S.-Ukraine relations would improve if the Biden investigation was launched” sounds more like a bribe or extortion (ala mob protection/threat) scheme considering the quid was maybe $250 million in armaments .

  7. Population Matters is at the Climate Strike in London to join the call for urgent action and raise awareness of the crucial link between human numbers and climate change. To solve the climate crisis, we must achieve a sustainable population size.

    which made me think of the mandate that anything of value given to influence a federal election must be reported. therefore a question to ask during general elections debate should be if the value received from foreign county’s assistance in oppo dirt digging was duly submitted in candidate’s required FEC contribution reports.   trump has said he is open to receiving such dirt (possible issue at heart of IG brouhaha) and such dirt does have value so it should be reported as required.

    President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani denied asking Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden moments before admitting that he had done just that.
    Giuliani’s comments came in a heated exchange on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” as Chris Cuomo pressed the former New York mayor over conversations he’d had with a Ukrainian official about Biden’s possible role in that government’s dismissal of a prosecutor who had investigated the former vice president’s son, Hunter. Giuliani has repeatedly pointed to the event as a scandal, even as other Western governments also called for that prosecutor’s dismissal and no evidence has indicated Biden’s move was inappropriate. That prosecutor was replaced by Yuriy Lutsenko, who would later drop an investigation into a company in which Hunter Biden was involved.

  24. been watching some of the climate coverage interviews ali velshi has been having with some of the candidates and am almost ready now to switch my druthers.   like lizzie, I have a plan plus a plan B:

    1st elect warren booker 2020

    2nd put mayor pete in important cabinet post (SoS preferably) to earn his chops on a big stage

    3rd lizzie resigns early in 4th year to make cory potus and mayor pete veep.

    4th plan B = Booker Buttigieg 2024 ticket

    sorry, kamala.  as good as you might be (and i’ll still vote for you if you make it) Cory has more of the “it” quality substantively & superficially & personalitywise for veep post and as a future prez .

    A president is sitting in the Oval Office, right now, who continues to commit crimes. He continues because he knows his Department of Justice will not act — and he believes Congress won’t either.
    After the Mueller report, Congress had a duty to begin impeachment. By failing to act, Congress is complicit in Trump’s latest actions. It’s time for Congress to do their constitutional duty and impeach the president.
    Mitch McConnell is also complicit. The Senate must vote on the bill, already passed by the House, to help states and localities protect themselves from the foreign attacks on our elections that the president has previously welcomed.
    In 1974, Democrats and Republicans united in support of impeachment not out of mutual contempt for Nixon but mutual respect for the rule of law. Congress refused to be complicit in future law-breaking by Nixon or other presidents.

    I said it before, and I’ll say it again: It’s time for this Congress to start impeachment proceedings. – Elizabeth
