Some Trump voters regret sending him back to the White House because he’s doing nothing to lower prices on everyday items like coffee and potato chips, and there’s a new medicine that might extend your dog’s lifespan by years.

A movement is calling for an ‘economic blackout’ on Friday. Here’s what to know : NPR

[…]

This movement, spearheaded by The People’s Union USA, a grassroots group, follows the rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at several companies, including Target. The boycott coincides with protests against President Donald Trump’s plans to reduce the government workforce and mass firings at federal agencies.

[…]

The group has clarified that there is no specific reason for the chosen date and it is not tied to any historical event. And they say that Friday’s blackout is just the beginning.

In March, they have plans for a week-long blackout against Amazon, urging participants not to buy from the retailer or Whole Foods, and to avoid brands owned by Nestlé due to issues of “water exploitation, child labor, and corporate greed.”

Another nationwide “economic blackout” is scheduled for March 28, also lasting 24 hours.

NPR has reached out to Amazon, Whole Foods and Nestlé for comments but has yet to receive a response.

The blackout also overlaps with other boycott efforts by activists and civil rights groups, including a boycott against Target that began on Feb. 1 by We Are Somebody, an advocacy organization. Some faith-leaders are calling for consumers to boycott the retailer for 40-days starting on March 5 to protest its rollback of DEI initiatives. Another effort is calling on Black consumers to refrain from spending entirely today to illustrate Black buying power and socioeconomic influence.

[…]

The boycott message has also spread to Canada, with some businesses saying that on Friday, “We make our voices heard and show that we are in control of our own choices.”

“We, the people of Canada, are known for our kindness, hospitality, and inclusiveness. We cherish our diversity, freedom, healthcare, and the beauty of our land. Our country thrives on the contributions of those who visit and live here. But there’s a limit to how far we’ll let anyone push us,” a local Canadian events business wrote in a social media post tagging other businesses. “We are no longer waiting for others to dictate terms—this is our stand, our fight, and our power.”

The nation sinks deeper each day into a hardened oligarchy as an unelected oligarch illegally and unconstitutionally deletes departments created by Congress, randomly fires essential workers, cancels contracts and payments put in place by Congress, and above all, is unable to do basic arithmetic. For those of you who didn’t take or pass Civics Class, only Congress can allocate and de-allocate money. It’s specified in the Constitution.

‘Very scary’: Maddow warns Trump may ‘effectively declare war’ on US after SCOTUS ruling

America faces a potential constitutional crisis as President Donald Trump contemplates ignoring a court order related to his administration’s foreign aid freeze. This alarming situation could have far-reaching consequences for the nation’s democratic institutions, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow warned on her Thursday night broadcast.

Maddow highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, “They have been joking about this and making, you know, macho sounding bluffs about this for a long time now – particularly from the vice president – J.D. Vance.”

She then posed a critical question: “How is the Supreme Court going to deal with it now that it’s real?”

The MSNBC host delved into various scenarios that could unfold depending on how the Supreme Court addresses the possibility of Trump openly defying a court order. This situation, which Maddow described as a “very scary issue,” has the potential to challenge the foundations of the American justice system and the separation of powers.

At the heart of this controversy is a case set to be heard by the Supreme Court today. The court will consider a request from government attorneys seeking to overturn U.S. District Judge Amir Ali’s order to unfreeze funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The case has become a flashpoint in the ongoing debate over executive power and the role of the judiciary in checking that power.

Maddow speculated on the potential outcomes of the Supreme Court’s decision, asking, “Do they try to give him what he wants from the courts so that Trump doesn’t break that glass? Doesn’t, you know, smash through the brightest bright line that we have and effectively end the Republic?’

She further questioned whether the court might appease Trump out of fear, ensuring that “all court orders go his way.”

Maddow then proposed a scenario where the Justices might use this opportunity to reaffirm the limits of presidential power, making it clear that even the President is not above the law. She pondered, “Do they tell him that if he does try to defy the courts, he is effectively declaring war on the United States of America?”

As the nation awaits the Supreme Court’s decision, Maddow urged viewers to remain vigilant.

“MAGA heavyweights lash out over Romanian police raids targeting Călin Georgescu“This is messed up,” wrote Elon Musk as he joined Jack Posobiec and JD Vance in weighing in on the election turmoil in Bucharest.”

“Prosecutors suspect 27 people of acting against Romania’s constitutional order. Although they didn’t name Georgescu or his aides in a statement, the far-right politician claimed the searches were aimed at blocking his new presidential candidacy ahead of a redo election in May.”

It sounds like releasing SAers, the Tate bros, was the shiny thing the media is supposed to follow.

Observation – When I travel I always have a laptop and an over the air antenna with a Hauppauge TV tuner so I can watch television. Near a city, most stations show up with good signal. Away from cities the signal will vary for most but not all channels. One that is a usually good signal are the Fox stations. Want to reach areas that cable does not, over the air television. That is why you see antennas around or on houses, they get at least one station, you know which one.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/world/europe/romania-calin-georgescu.html

“The start of criminal proceedings against Mr. Georgescu, a fierce critic of NATO and the European Union, was announced by prosecutors on Wednesday. The move came just two weeks after Vice President JD Vance cited Romania in a speech at a Munich security conference as an example of what he said was Europe’s “retreat” from free speech and democracy.”

“The videos promoting Mr. Georgescu ahead of the November vote were not labeled as campaign material, a violation of Romania’s election law, and it has not been explained how his campaign managed to dominate social media so suddenly and thoroughly.”

“The cancellation of the vote result in November made Mr. Georgescu a martyred hero to anti-establishment political forces in Romania and also right-wing Americans, including Mr. Vance and Elon Musk, who has taken to social media several times to denounce his treatment.”

“Mr. Georgescu has not been arrested but placed under “judicial control,” a status that bars him from leaving Romania and using social media.”

This is another piece of Putin’s puzzle.

About those rare earths.
one word, Wyoming
Google found this article for me

The newly disclosed figure of 2.34 billion metric tons of rare earth minerals found southwest of Wheatland by American Rare Earths Inc. could dwarf in size the 1.2 million metric ton estimates in northeastern Wyoming that one of its competitors claimed was one of the biggest discoveries in the world.

A couple of interesting facts.
First the company that owns the rights to that find is an Australian company, not American. It is the modern world, multinationals are not limited to any country and if the project is big, it is a multinational that does the work. BTW this is another reason for a smart foreign policy, no country can go it alone anymore.

To put all this in perspective, just one mine has a potential of 2.34 billion metric tons. World consumption is just 60 thousand metric tons.
I suspect rare earth minerals aren’t that rare unless you are comparing them to something like silicon/sand. given the low demand we just haven’t looked for them.

“Among them was Horatiu Potra, a former member of the French Foreign Legion and military contractor in the Democratic Republic of Congo whose security firm provides bodyguards for Georgescu. Prosecutors said a large cache of weapons and hidden cash was found during the raid.”

https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-kimbal-tesla-stock-price-brother-trump-doge-ev-2025-2

“Kimbal Musk sells Tesla stock worth about $28 million as Elon’s brother cashes in on rally since Trump’s victory,”

“Tesla shares have surged by almost 40% since the US election on November 5.”

“But Tesla shares have dropped by 13% this year even as the broader stock market has risen, fueling a nearly $40 billion decline in Elon Musk’s net worth, per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.”

“Elon Musk has long argued that Tesla is more than an automaker. He’s touted its artificial intelligence efforts, arguing that they’d lead to huge profits from future products such as Optimus humanoid robots and fully self-driving vehicles.”

“Insider stock transactions are closely watched on Wall Street as they can indicate sentiment about a company. Directors’ jettisoning shares could signal that they expect the company’s share price to plunge and want to cash out before it does.”

That was two weeks ago. Looks like his bro dumped it just in time.

RR – Why would anyone need to be shopping on Good Friday? Not a very churchy thing to do. Grandma had everything for Easter on the previous Saturday. On Thursday nights, the town stayed open until 9pm, but I believe they were closed at 5pm (as normal) on Maundy Thursday. It’s an economic boycott, not a boycott of religious institutions or traditions. Besides, the Christo-fascists aren’t actually the hands and feet of Christ, but they are doing the bidding of several anti-Christs.

The only thing I can figure out about the rotating boycotts is that it’s a reminder to the big stores about who they need to exist.

I’ve called my Senators today. Hope everyone is giving them an earful.

You want the price of eggs to go down, do what I did, quit buying eggs. The last eggs I bought was at $2.25 a dozen, I’ve still got one of them left and I bought them before Christmas. Eggs will last a long time if refrigerated. I only use eggs in baking. 3 months is a long time to keep eggs around, so the last couple of weeks I’ve been cracking them into a bowl to make sure they are still good. How do you tell a spoiled egg? The yolk is broke. Something you learn growing up poor on a farm.

Jack – decades ago, when I was put into electronics by the U.S. Air Force, a class on magnetics which covered rare earth magnets. It was brought up that “rare” did not mean scarce, it was that like other things say gold and silver, you went through a lot of earth to get what you needed. I am sure that current recovery methods are somewhat better than they were almost sixty years ago. The other day I saw an article about a company which has created a method to recover rare earth products, there a many of them, along with hazardous materials from electronics and other things that use the stuff, batteries comes to mind. It supposedly keeps most of the goodies and tosses out almost nothing but plastic.

It doesn’t matter what likes n@zi bros like Kirk (and apparently Rubio) spew about the meeting.

THE REST OF THE WORLD SAW IT & NO AMOUNT OF SPINNING WILL LET IT BE UNSEEN.

MAGAts are finding out that they are losing Medicaid, farm subsidies, etc., and that it’s all about tax cuts for the wealthy & control of everything including them. This will be a blip for folks who are struggling & it won’t even be a blip for the rest of the world.

Shocking to the world, the spray…an ambush by Vance and especially Trump to align himself to Putin. I have proclaimed Trump to be a Russian asset + agent for a decade, now it’s set in stone. Trump bullying Zelenskyy like that in the spray,
A DISASTER for us, a total victory for Putin, now popping champagne corks in The Kremlin. Total chaos for our world allies…we have no allies now! Putin has won, and the USA is now on Russia’s side, informally…for today anyway. No reporter, no ambassador today has said they have ever seen anything like this. EVER.
Then Trump kicked Zelenskyy out of the White House and to the airport. So let Putin take and keep the captured areas and march into Poland, The Baltics, then Finland, while the NATO-less USA under the self-appointed king watch in glee.
Trump must be stopped. We must stay in NATO and keep Putin behind his borders. But Trump must be deposed as we cannot possibly have this Russian asset in The White House. WE ARE IN DANGER!

Happy Birthday Chris Hayes. He’s having a heyday amidst all the hubbub at MSNBC.

Do February 29th babies celebrate on the 28th during the off-years, or March 1? IDK.

He is a childhood friend and schoolmate of comedian Desus Nice.

Any psychologist or psychiatrist (or former abused spouse) will tell you that President Zelensky gave a master class today on how to deal with a malignant narcissist.
He is an amazing man. We can all learn from him.

There was this time in my employment I looked around a management table and realized every person present was either a narcissist/alcoholic, a co-dependent, or an abused adult child.

That’s our government today.*

*all of them untreated and unrecovered

I see you’re in no condition to have a conversation today, Mr. President. We have to reschedule this for another time when you’re better.

We’re the bad guys, now

no longer “the good guys”

we’re all basically the equivalent of russian scum (or at best helpless victims)

whether you like it or not and no matter who you voted for

we’re a member of the new axis-of-evil

It will be triggering for a lot of people to see that, but I’m glad it was all caught on camera.

The show was for Putin. TASS was in the press pool, not AP or Reuters. If there is anyone with the power to arrest the traitor tRUMPsky, let them do it now. His little side-bitch *JD, needs to go, too, along with half of the Senate and House. This is not a game. If someone can rid the Earth of Putin, the rest comes undone more easily.

*Zelenskyy seems to have called JD a bitch in Ukrainian: сука

“The FDIC’s goal is to prevent another banking crisis. It’s now also a Trump target”

“The cuts [at the FDIC] are incredibly unfortunate,” she adds. “And they are potentially quite dangerous for America’s financial stability — which, of course, means for all of us as ordinary American consumers.”

“Last week, Trump signed an executive order that would give him greater power over independent regulatory agencies, including the FDIC. And some of Trump’s advisers have expressed interest in abolishing the FDIC, The Wall Street Journalreported in December.”
