Stealing The Border

It’s not just that Kamala’s speech on immigration turns the campaign tables on Trump, robbing him of his best issue. It also made a lot of sense.

Like the economic speech on Wednesday her policy addresses are turning out to be an interesting blend of thematic and granular.

“He prefers to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem”

And let’s hear it for nuance.

“I reject the false choice that we must decide between securing our border and creating a system of immigration that is safe, orderly, and humane. We can and we must do both. As President, I will put politics aside to modernize our immigration system and find solutions to problems which have persisted for far too long” – Vice President Kamala Harris

Vowing to carry on President Biden’s crackdown on asylum and to impose order on the southern border, the vice president demonstrated how much the politics of immigration have changed

  2. Of course we can, and must, do both. ChickenShit can do neither.
So Israel claims to have killed Hezbollah’s leader. I’m sure Hezbollah won’t retaliate. 🙄

  3. CNN:

    What we’re covering

The Israeli military claims that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Friday’s airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon. Following the announcement, the army chief warned this is “not the end of our toolbox.” Israel has been escalating its attacks on Hezbollah.
There has been no confirmation from Hezbollah. Nasrallah was one of the founders of Hezbollah, that formed four decades ago with the aid of Iran, and oversaw its transformation into one of the most powerful paramilitary forces in the Middle East.
Overnight, Israel launched further strikes on southern Beirut, targeting what it says are stores of Hezbollah weapons. State-run media in Lebanon says there have been casualties. A CNN team found people sleeping in the street.

    • Lebanon has recorded more than 100,000 people displaced by the recent conflict, but authorities said the true number is likely much higher. Up to half a million people are likely internally displaced, Lebanon’s health minister

Hell’s coming to breakfast. Question is when and where. I suspect Israel is going to find out whether H’s missile arsenal is as capable as many fear it is.

  4. bill mentions the border issue in the last minute of his civics lesson last night: “why do millions of people risk their lives to come here? …. no one pays a coyote to smuggle them into to India or Russia…. . [immigrants] don’t see us as a problem, they see us as a solution…they kill themselves to get here and it’s not just for the ponds full of delicious ducks and geeese”

The U.S. Constitution may be flawed, but it provides the foundation for everything that makes life good for the very people who hate it so much.

  5. Seems Helene was more deadly than first known. WaPo.

Helene has killed at least 40 people in five states, including five in Pinellas County, more than any other county in Florida.

I don’t understand people who don’t understand GET THE FUCK OUT. I get it for those without the ability to leave but for those who chose to stay, simply stupid.

  6. SNL is back tonight! Who will play Tim Walz?   Steve Martin turned it down.  Jim Gaffigen is going on tour with Seinfeld.  Jerry O’Heir (Parks & Rec) is much larger than Walz.
    Al Franken?

  7. Mump:  I love climate change…..think of all the new waterfront properties.
(Never mind the OLD waterfront properties.)

  8. Hey look, the guy who flooded the zone in 2022 with garbage red wave polls has seen that Trump is behind in the averages and is promising to do the same thing again this year

  9. Arizona Republic dream headline and lead for Harris., puts her on offense, Trump on defense. Masterful…

“DOUGLAS — Standing where Republicans have long dared her to go, Vice President Kamala Harris visited Arizona’s border with Mexico on Friday and said it is former President Donald Trump who isn’t serious about border security.

In a major policy speech in Douglas outlining twin priorities on the issue of border security and immigration reform, Harris took Trump to task for the unsolved problems along the border and vowed to provide meaningful leadership on an issue familiar to her.

Trump “ripped toddlers out of their mother’s arms, put children in cages, and tried to end protections for dreamers. He made the challenges at the border worse, and he is still — and he is still — fanning the flames of fear and division.”

Amazon in Talks With Brian Williams to Host Election-Night Special
The veteran NBC News and MSNBC anchor is in late-stage discussions to host a live Election Nightspecial onAmazonPrime Video, according to five people familiar with the matter. The aim, these people say, is to have a non-partisan discussion of that evening’s events. If the project comes to fruition, it could mark the first entry into news-related programming by one of the industry’s stand-alone streaming giants, which have largely focused on movies, scripted original series and reality programming.

  12. Here are the rules for the JD Vance-Tim Walz VP debate (thehill.com)

    […]
The debate, which will kick off at 9 p.m. EDT on Tuesday from the network’s New York office, will be moderated by CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan.
Both campaigns have agreed to CBS’s rules for the debate, which were announced Friday.
Walz will be on the right side of the stage from a viewer’s standpoint, with Vance on the left. The Democratic vice presidential nominee, being the incumbent party’s candidate, will be introduced first by the moderators, according to the outlet. Both candidates will remain at the podium for the entire length of the 90-minute showdown.
There will be no opening statements or live studio audience, similar to the debate earlier this month between former Trump and Vice President Harris. The candidates will get two breaks, each lasting four minutes, according to CBS.
The candidates will have two minutes to answer each question. Then, two minutes will be given to their counterpart to push back. After that, the VP hopefuls will each get one minute for- rebuttals, the outlet said in its release. Both Vance and Walz will have a countdown clock to know how much time they have left.
The moderators will be seated during the debate. Microphones can be muted if the network decides, but they will be hot, CBS noted.
The candidates cannot use pre-written notes or have props, but they will be given a pen, paper and water. Staffers are also not allowed to engage with the vice presidential candidates during breaks.
The contenders will have two minutes for closing statements. Vance won a coin toss Thursday and opted to go second, thus being given the last word, CBS said.

  13. https://www.npr.org/2024/09/26/nx-s1-5129844/clay-higgins-racist-comments-haitians-backlash

    JD’s lie lives on:

“Lol. These Haitians are wild. Eating pets, vudu, nastiest country in the western hemisphere, cults, slapstick gangsters… but damned if they don’t feel all sophisticated now, filing charges against our President and VP,” Higgins wrote on his official account on X. “All these thugs better get their mind right and their asses out of our country before January 20th.”

Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins on Thursday retracted comments he made about Haitian immigrants in a now-deleted social media post.

“You never want to intentionally hurt someone’s feelings, and that post was intended for Haitian gangs, you understand?” Higgins, a Republican, told reporters. “The unintended impact that was expressed very sincerely from one of my colleagues very graciously, that touched me as a gentleman.”

You are no gentleman, and I hope they sue your sorry ass, too.   BS to it being meant for “gangs,” too.  Also, the “Lol” at the beginning…?

  15. Sturg – Yes!  Walz should play himself the first night, at least.    Hope they thought of that.   Of course, they’d have to offer equal time to JD, right?  No sketch needed; just a camera following him around acting like his weird, little self.

  16. We politics junkies know Harris is the better choice regarding the border, but it worries me that many don’t read enough about this issue and they say Harris is a failed border czar, which is nonsense.
Last week in Lansing Alex Wagner interviewed Teamsters, mostly young workers, and they were, all but one middle age man, ill-informed. One thought the insurrection was February 6.  Most others said they have not followed the election except to say Trump is better for the economy, but none could slightly elaborate.  Some said they have not followed the election at all.  I surmise these basic illiterates will either not vote or more likely, vote for the adjudicated rapist with 34 felony conviction who by rights should be hooded, cuffed, and shackled in the SHU of some prison.

  17. https://www.mediamatters.org/project-2025/life-threatening-hurricane-helene-approached-florida-miami-herald-called-out-project
“As “life-threatening” Hurricane Helene approached Florida, the Miami Herald called out Project 2025’s proposal to dismantle NOAA”

“In its policy book, Project 2025 says that NOAA “should be broken up and downsized.” Experts say Project 2025 attacks NOAA because the agency has emphasized the threat of climate change.”
“Project 2025 would end the National Weather Service’s ability to provide data and educational resources that are free to the public.”
“Project 2025 would also limit key disaster aid for families and businesses. The proposal suggests ending a low-interest loan program from the Small Business Association that provides victims of extreme weather with low-interest loans to rebuild.”
“Project 2025 could also make it harder for states to qualify for federal disaster aid by increasing “the threshold for disaster declarations,” which means that a storm needs to be even more damaging for the president to decide that federal aid is necessary.”

Ron-Duh needs to pull on his weird, white boots and speak against tRUMPsky and Project 2025 now.   Surely, he realizes the orange guy is a loser and will be fleeing the US on his pedo-plane between Election Day and his sentencing.

  18. Today’s Trump rally in flux. I’m sure he will be screaming it is ELECTION INTERFERENCE… CBS News – Former President Trump’s campaign scrapped plans for an upcoming outdoor rally in Wisconsin after the Secret Service said it did not have the personnel needed to secure the site.

  19. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/feb/25/billionaire-doomsday-bunkers-end-times

“…Mark Zuckerberg. In December Wired published an in-depth report detailing how the Meta CEO has been constructing a 5,000-sq-ft underground shelter on his 1,400-acre compound in Hawaii, the compound will be completely self-sufficient with its own food and water supplies. The price tag for the entire project is over $270m. It’s also shrouded in secrecy and people involved with the project are bound by non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).”

“…president of Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments (Safe), a Virginia-based bunker company, recently told The Hollywood Reporter (THR) that his clients have been coming up with cunning way to ensure their luxury apocalypse retreats can’t be breached by the great unwashed. One of the projects Corbi is working on (for an unnamed business mogul) is an island fortress with a flammable moat. Try and breach it and it bursts into flames.”

“The only access to the island is a swing bridge.” And, of course, there are also backup water cannons to keep the poors out.”

“Zuckerberg’s reported bunker is one of approximately 15 end-of-days projects being undertaken by billionaires…”

“There’s a famous quote in tech circles, often attributed to William Gibson: the future is here, it’s just not evenly distributed. That’s true of disaster as well. While billionaires worry about an upcoming dystopia, people in Gaza are living it.
The rules-based order that has governed international affairs since the end of World War II is on its way out, and there may be no turning back. The consequences of this abandonment are all too apparent: more instability, more aggression, more conflict and more suffering.” The war in Gaza may not affect you personally but the destruction of the rules-based order and international humanitarian law affects all of us.”

“There is some good news: robots may take us all out before world war three or the climate crisis does. Eliezer Yudkowsky, an artificial intelligence researcher, recently told the Guardian that we should start laying out the red carpet for our machine-based overloads very soon. “If you put me to a wall,” Yudkowsky mused, “and forced me to put probabilities on things, I have a sense that our current remaining timeline looks more like five years than 50 years. Could be two years, could be 10.”

“While that seems a tad alarmist, you don’t have to be a doomer to worry that the rise of AI is going to trigger even more instability in an already fragile world.”

  20. What’s the capacity of a Chuck E Cheese?  They could probably secure one of those for his rally.

  21. So, it’s a pain to use car seats so folks are going child free rather than dealing with wrestling a child into a car seat?    Is that his logic?  Where did he get the 100,000 number?  All made up?

Maybe, IF folks want kids they would like jobs with decent wages, a union job like JD’s pee-paw had; maybe they’d like a house they could afford; maybe they’d like a public school focused on education and not JD’s professed religion; maybe they’d like for their kids not to need live shooter drills.
If JD actually cares (he doesn’t), he should show proper concern and not made up stuff.

    Project 2025  It’s real and it’s dangerous.

  22. Trump just now blamed moving his rally on Biden administration restricting his secret service detail in order to protect the “Iranian president who’s trying to kill me”.

I knew he was going to blame them but took it a further step than I imagined.

  23. https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/28/politics/tim-walz-vice-president-debate/index.html

    —
Tim Walz is telling people he’s just as nervous about facing JD Vance as he was the Sunday afternoon in August when he warned Kamala Harris in his running mate interview that he was a bad debater.”

“He’s a strong person,” said Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who’s known Walz since they were each first elected to Washington in 2006. “He’s just not a lawyer-debater type.”

But he is a coach and a teacher. He should lean into it that way, and not as a debate against a sleazeball with no moral compass.

He should have pat answers for the few things JD will try to pick at him with, and then move on.

Seriously, move on from the disruptive student and get back to the lesson plan.

“As teachers, we are trained to answer the question, and we train our students to answer the questions,” the person recalled Walz saying. “That’s not how this goes.”

Ah, but it can be. It’s your classroom, Coach. You can control the narrative.

There was a local, televised debate in Texas many years ago. One candidate kept her answers very short. Do short that she sounded idiotic at times. Schools, roads, taxes. Schools, roads, taxes. She won the election.

If JD whines that Tim called him “weird,”
Tim should just say it does seem weird when someone says or does blah-blah-blah. Do. Not. Apologize. Just double down on JD’s language or behavior.

I loved debate, even though it made me nervous beforehand.

    Study notes:

    Dem policies
    Dangers of Project 2025
    Double down on previous comments
    Don-Old, dangerous, dictatorship

ps – He’s a charming guy and I hope that comes across, along with the seriousness of the message. JD is lying putz, and it’s doubtful he’ll come across as anything else.

  24. the recommended videos underneath the trump rally on Youtube is like a rabbit hole down to the very depths of insanity and misinformation

  25. if JD is half as dumb at the debate as he is at his public speaking events, Walz will be fine

JD will have scripted racist dog-whistles, he’ll fold when he runs out of them, he can’t even refute news anchors in interviews

If Tim is very deft, he might even work in how he supported LGBTQ youth like JD, when he was a teacher

lol, trump still rambling and reciting grievances ⏰ 😴

the guy admires dictators like they’re pop-stars

holy shit this guy is insane, why is the media not covering how nuts he sounds??

  26. Whining about not falling into her trap is called falling into her trap…

Trump: “All the stupid people said I fell into her trap. They said I fell into her trap. She can’t set a mental trap. I didn’t fall into her trap. There is no trap. I didn’t fall into her trap”

  27. This speech is well within his top 10 most deranged and climbing fast…

Trump: “Joe Biden became mentally impaired. Kamala was born that way. She was born that way. And if you think about it, only a mentally disabled person could have allowed this to happen to our country.”

  28. lol first time an Ohio town has been called “idyllic”

i see on the RSBN crawl that thuglicans are pretty happy about NC purging almost 800k people from voter rolls

he likes calling women “dumb”, misogynist dog-whistle

  29. He is not OK..

Trump: “Oh there’s a fly. Oh. I wonder where the fly came from. See, two years ago, I wouldn’t have had a fly up here. But they’re changing rapidly. We can’t take it any longer”

  30. Craig – I caught a couple snips here and there.  The guy has even left his own alternate universe in to a space that only he knows about.  He is flat out bonkers.  I am starting to get the feeling that if the orange moron is elected that the next day there would be a discussion about Amendment 25.

  31. It’s the same fly RBG sent to Mike Pence.

Every time Adolf eats a hamberder, he thinks about Kamala.   Mickey D’s is tainted for him.  That’s why he’s denying she ever worked there.  He can’t stand the thought.  Ha!

  32. bId – I am slowing down a bit.  I had never even put the two separate events into one big giant Big Mac.  You nailed it.  No wonder he is stumbling around.  This is beyond Obama birth certificate.  This is right in the fat blob alimentary canal which is his “brain”.  Thank you!

  33. BB –  It’s just such an easy thing to prove (IRS would have a record of her W9), and such a stupid thing to want to disprove.   A distraction, of course, but silly.

When was that pic of tRUMPsky and Putin taken? He looked really dejected and Putin looked psychotically smirky.

Drink your coffee or Mr. Dew, guys. SNL is still 4 hours away.

Sturg – Doubt Walz is making a cameo at SNL since he was at the MN/MI game today, but you never know.

  34. Stadium filled with racists.  Heard a few boos.  Adolf likes to give the OK/yt power sign at his rallies. Disgusting.

  35. https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/verify/missouri-senator-josh-hawley-verify-fort-leonard-wood-100-million-funding-military-housing/63-a97081ce-cd55-4756-9318-fbc487d13f4b
“Sen. Josh Hawley takes credit for ‘nearly $100 million in funding for new military housing at Fort Leonard Wood.’
“He voted against it multiple times.”

“At a recent campaign stop in the suburbs of St. Louis, reporters asked Republican Sen. Josh Hawley to list his top three accomplishments he felt made him worthy of re-election for a second six-year term.
“We got new housing for our soldiers in Fort Leonard Wood,” he replied.

“No, Hawley did not secure the Fort Leonard Wood funding. In fact, he voted against military construction budgets multiple times.”

“In social media posts, Hawley has also blamed the construction delays at military bases on the Biden administration.
However, in 2019 and 2020, it was former President Donald Trump’s administration that went to court fighting to defund construction projects at military bases across the country, like housing, day cares and schools to build a border wall instead. While those cuts did not directly impact Fort Leonard Wood at the time, they did add to the national backlog of deferred maintenance at military sites across the country.”

Jack – It might be nice to help get rid of Hawley on Election Day.

  36. Gaffigen Walz, at least for tonight.  Would’ve preferred Sudeikis’ aviator Joe to  Carvey’s bumbling, old caricature.   Bowen Yang IS the perfect JD.
