  1. What is there to be undecided about? | The Seattle Times

    by David Horsey

Strangely, I find it easier to understand why people would vote for former President Donald Trump than to grasp why any voter would be undecided in the 2024 presidential election.

If you are wealthy and do not want to see your taxes raised, or, perhaps, hope to see them cut, you might be inclined to vote for Trump. If you believe hordes of immigrants are crossing the border to commit crimes, vote illegally, steal jobs from hardworking Americans and live off the government dole, Trump would be your man. If you think white people are suffering from terrible discrimination and “woke” elitists are ruining the country, you are in line with Trump.

I happen to think all of those reasons to favor Trump are either selfish or seriously misinformed, but, at least, they give people an excuse to overlook or deny Trump’s serious flaws as a candidate. What I do not quite get is why someone who has not bought into right-wing fear mongering or who has a narrow economic self-interest might remain undecided about the choice for president.

All the information we need to know about Trump is readily available — the indictments, the impeachments, the admiration of autocrats, the Jan. 6 insurrection incitement, the Big Lie, the endless stream of little lies, the narcissism, the incoherence, the chaos. How can undecided voters look at all of that and still think it is possible Trump should be given power again?

I can only conclude that they have not been paying attention. They are less undecided than they are uninterested. And yet, it is these unengaged citizens who may show up to vote in the swing states and, based on some ignorant whim or gut feeling, will decide this fateful election.

    Yikes.

  2. New York City’s mayor Eric Adams stands accused of a shocking list of bribes from foreign countries including Turkey, actor Sam Elliott voiced an expletive-filled commercial supporting VP Kamala Harris, and former president Donald Trump finds it hard to sleep because he’s too busy thinking.

  3. Could it be that there really are no undecideds? there are those folk who just don’t want to broadcast a decision out of fear or to exercise their right to a secret vote or because they just don’t like the surveyor’s questions and demeanor or insistent calls.

  4. I like to add soft supporters to undecided for a bigger picture. That’s about 15% these days, if you combine the tiny sliver of the truly undecided to the larger group of leaners who say they could still change their minds. Put them together and that’s our universe of so-called persuadables.

When you look at persuadables in polls and focus groups you see a world disinclined to back Trump but still needing assurance Harris is a good bet to make things better.

In the end I’m guessing persuadables mostly break for Harris, starting somewhere around third week of October, and the bottom drops out for Trump by Election Day.

The least likely outcome is that the seven battleground states split 4-3. It’s more likely most or all move in the same direction because they’re getting roughly the same onslaught of information via ads, campaign events and news coverage.

I’m sticking to my map above, made a month ago — Harris 320 Electoral Votes.

  5. Meanwhile, Putin’s Russian media is loving Trump’s attacks against Ukraine and Zelensky His tirade yesterday was right out of Moscow’s script, and was prominently featured on every state TV channel..

  6. Whether he’s just a useful idiot or if by design, there’s no question that Trump sides with Russia in this conflict. Today’s meeting with Zelensky is going to be awkward.

  7. yep, sure looks that way, craig

  8. More promises and less delivery if there’s a next time. Retaliation is the one promise he will deliver.

JD Vance, in 2020 messages, said Trump ‘thoroughly failed to deliver’
The critical messages, shared with The Post by their recipient on the condition of anonymity because of concerns about retaliation, cast doubt on Vance’s oft-recited account of how and when he embraced Trumpism. They were written years after Vance’s previously reported remarks attacking Trump, such as his statements in 2016 that Trump was “reprehensible,” “cultural heroin” and possibly “America’s Hitler.”

  9. They haven’t mentioned the massive amounts of BLACKMAIL given to Stump by Portman.   It takes blackmail to deliver such large amounts of gop cowardice.

Stump is useful to Russia, and most certainly is an idiot, but is totally all in to bending the knee to the Russian. He has no choice in the matter. He’s locked into being a whore to a foreign power. Apparently none dare call it treason.

“There are serious concerns around an impending lawsuit from Taylor Swift’s team upon copying themes from their Eras Tour merchandise but some feel that Trump’s team has done this on purpose and would be ready for anything that comes up. Some feel that this appears to be a hit job on Swift for her latest endorsement of Kamala Harris, and would also dilute the narrative set forth by the TTPD star.”

Sue him. Wait until Election Day to do it. Don’t give him any extra oxygen right now.

  12. It would not be surprising that sfb had a detailed talking to by puttie when they met in Helsinki.  The downward stare of his eyes, his fish mouth taut, and his subservience to puttie was definitely not of the proud con man he portrays.  Puttie could have explained how terrible a plutonium death is or what flying is like from a hotel window.  Although acting like the russians owned him earlier, it was the Finland meeting that he appeared to be one hundred percent russian agent.

  13. i wouldn’t be the first to note that trump’s “i’ll be your protector” remarks sounded like the warnings of a domestic-abuser or worse

  14. well i clicked on the trump rally and it was immediate overtly racist shit, nice job GOP

…leaving the job of monitoring that asshole to you, Mr. C, Godspeed 🫡

  15. I would like to somehow figure out as precisely as possible what time this unsavory spectacle will be flashed on my tv screen so I can plan to be busy getting snacks in the kitchen, doing a load of laundry, or hiding in the bathroom. What is seen cannot be unseen and I really prefer not to see it. Tommy Tubberville should not be allowed in the stadium. Roll Tide.

Alabama’s Katie Britt, Tommy Tuberville to join former President Donald Trump at Alabama-Georgia game

“It should stop, and the president wants it to stop. I’m sure President Putin wants it to stop, and that’s a good combination. So, we want to have a fair deal for everybody,” Trump said. When he was asked what he envisioned as “fair,” Trump said it was “too early to say that.”

So, if someone invades your home, is it a good deal that they get to keep your garage and lawn furniture?  Is Putin willing to settle for that? No.  He wants every house on the block…and then he’ll move into other neighborhoods.  Shut. Him. Down.    Dumping tRUMPsky is a start.   And, yeah, Melanoma is a red sparrow.

  17. So Trump is going to be hanging out in the Alabama section with Tuberville.
Now there is an ad to run locally in Georgia.
    Jack

  18. …a “fair deal for everybody” is Putin getting the flock out of Ukraine including Crimea

insane that this traitorous mole is a major party nominee for PotUS

i liked your “home invasion” analogy, btw, BiD 👍

  19. Now there is an ad to run locally in Georgia.

Good one, Jack. Hadn’t thought about it that way.

  20. It’s obvious that stump has given up on attempting to say the right things the right way and hasn’t a care how the actual vote turns out..    Why?   Elementary, my dear What’s on ya….
Because he’s banking on the plan to steal the election. It doesn’t matter what he or Vance says because, like Mr Karem pointed out—all their plans—his, Vance’s, Pootman’s, and almost the entirety of the gop elected officials plus the SCROTUS
They plan to steal it.  I hope our guys got a handle on it.

  21. Ads featuring a candidate’s wife or daughter have long been standard political fare for both Democrats and Republicans. But they have taken on increased urgency in this campaign cycle.
“There has been a resurgence of these ads, with Republicans being on the defensive on abortion in a way in which we haven’t seen in recent times,” said Isaac Baker, a veteran Democratic strategist and ad maker.
Alexandra De Luca, the vice president for communications at American Bridge 21st Century, a Democratic super PAC that conducts research and tracking on G.O.P. candidates, blasted Republicans for the tactic.
“Hiding behind your wife as a prop as you and your party work to dismantle women’s rights and risk their lives is a pathetic political move,” she said. “These Republicans should own their dangerous policies and their vicious insistence that women have no control over their own bodies.”
But the ads have long been popular, Mr. Baker said, because they work. While progressive Democrats sometimes have negative reactions to them, he said, suburban women who pay less attention to politics often respond emotionally to seeing someone they identify with vouching for a candidate they may know little about.

  23. New CNN poll shows Harris +11 in Nebraska’s 2nd district. Biden won it by 6 in 2020.

Helps explain why the Trump campaign was so keen to change how Nebraska awards its electoral votes.

With NE-2, Harris would only need MI+PA+WI to get to 270.

  24. Sturg – That Juice Media video I posted this morning lists all the things they are doing to stop the steal, er, to steal the election.   Never thought I’d live to see a civil war in the US, but it’s coming thanks to ignorant racists and the power-hungry who yank their chains.

    Long live Nebraska’s blue dot.

  25. Meanwhile, a message from planet MAGA.

(HAARP is a high frequency radio wave program they believe Biden is using to manipulate weather for political purposes. Trump has even alluded to it a few times to please them).

  26. OccupyDemocrats

BREAKING: Fox News stuns its viewers as a host and MAGA congressman admit on air that Donald Trump “torpedoed” the bipartisan border bill to selfishly help his own election chances.

“By the way, I love Rep. Ted Lieu’s comment on all this:
“Dear @JDVance: You said that people without children “don’t really have a direct stake” in our country. Do you think that applies to GOP candidate Derrick Anderson, who doesn’t have children but is trying to mislead voters by renting a family in his pictures? Asking for a friend.”

“So bottom line: if you are in VA07, make sure you vote for Eugene Vindman on or before November 5.”

he went right to “maximum” and left himself with no intermediate levels with which to threaten
