Mayday Serendipity

Hey it is the first of May, you know what begins today.

So this work seems appropriate.

Enjoy, no matter how you celebrate today, Jack

Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (L. 86), known in English as Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, is a symphonic poem for orchestra by Claude Debussy, approximately 10 minutes in duration. It was composed in 1894 and first performed in Paris on 22 December 1894.

The composition was inspired by the poem L’après-midi d’un faune by Stéphane Mallarmé. It is one of Debussy’s most famous works and is considered a turning point in the history of Western art music. Pierre Boulez considered the score to be the beginning of modern music, observing that “the flute of the faun brought new breath to the art of music.

I shall not sing a May song.
A May song should be gay.
    I’ll wait until November
And sing a song of gray.

  3. looks like nancy & co. had other plans last night

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made an unannounced visit to Kyiv with Democratic lawmakers, meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the first official congressional delegation to Ukraine since the Russian invasion. Pelosi pledged support for Ukraine, telling Zelensky that “our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done.”
Pelosi, the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit Kyiv during the war, walked the streets of Ukraine’s capital with House lawmakers, including Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (Calif.), Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory W. Meeks (N.Y.) and Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (Mass.). The delegation, met Zelensky on Saturday evening local time, and has now left Ukraine for Poland. The trip had not been announced before Zelensky shared visuals on Sunday. “Thank you for helping to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state!” he wrote on Twitter.

“We are visiting you to say thank you for your fight for freedom, that we’re on a frontier of freedom and that your fight is a fight for everyone,” Pelosi said to Zelensky in the clip. “And so our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done.”
The trip to Kyiv by Pelosi, who is second in line to succeed the president, signals a significant measure of commitment to supporting Ukraine from the most senior level of US leadership.
“Our Congressional Delegation had the solemn opportunity and extraordinary honor of meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other top Ukrainian officials in Kyiv,” according to the news release.
“Our delegation conveyed our respect and gratitude to President Zelenskyy for his leadership and our admiration of the Ukrainian people for their courage in the fight against Russia’s oppression.”
Pelosi was joined by several other senior members of Congress, including Gregory Meeks of New York, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Adam Schiff of California, the chairman of the Intelligence Committee.
“When we return to the United States, we will do so further informed, deeply inspired and ready to do what is needed to help the Ukrainian people as they defend democracy for their nation and for the world,” the release ends.

  7. volodymyr sure gets around these days. he must do an interview with outside media every day in addition to his daily message to the ukrainian people. this is different from the one scott pelley did with him a couple of weeks ago.

  8. I guess if you don’t want young nymphs dancing around your maypole or playing your flute then you can join the communist and have a serious celebration of hard honest workers, who don’t have time for such nonsense.

  9. Saw  a story about the logistics  from Dover AFB .  Loading 3,000 155 mm rounds on a private 747  cargo plane.  It’s on the ground in Poland now. (?)

There is pressure to change the name , because of what  Webb thought and did back in the  60’s .
But Webb saved NASA when congress was ready to pull it’s plug.
That’s why it got it’s name.
