  2. if that elephant in the room isn’t a big enough threat to joe, how ’bout the 900 lb gorilla, the media?

  3. patd, thank you. We Dems tend to focus on Joe and Kyrsten and give gopers a pass for opposing everything Biden proposes and we support. J&K are merely complicit with the goops as a matter of self interest. The goops are simply anti-democratic, as a matter of self interest of course. IMHO they just hate anything that benefits those who need help or want to be self directing, and who do not usually vote for them. Oh, and they are scared to death of crossing the twice impeached disgraced and defeated former clown car driver.

  4. yep, pogo, it’s self vs public interest in critterville these days.

on another subject, any word out there about the shelf life of those 4 rapid tests per residential address that we can order now from Covidtests.gov or U.S. Postal Service at https://special.usps.com/testkits?   it takes 7 to 12 days from order date to get them. how much time is left after that before expiration of effectiveness?

am planning to order ahead of need time but it may be a waste of gov’t time and money if their expiration date is less than a year to say nothing of inconvenience.

  5. patd,

When Do Rapid COVID Tests Expire?
Rapid antigen test kits can only be stored for several months up to a year.

“Home COVID-19 rapid antigen tests have an expiration date, which can be found on the box, and it’s important to verify before beginning the test,” Christopher Scuderi, DO, a family physician at University of Florida Health Jacksonville, told Verywell. “We are continuing to learn more about the stability of COVID-19 home tests or rapid antigen test kits.”
The shelf life of test kits generally varies among different manufacturers. For instance, the RapCov Rapid COVID-19 Test can be stored for eight months. Meanwhile, the shelf lives of two antigen tests, namely the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card and CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Test, were extended to 12 months after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviewed their stability studies.

“To ensure test accuracy, tests should be used within the appropriate time frame,” Scuderi said.

  6. pogo, thanks.   important to check the date before you buy at the drug store.  hope the ones the gov’t is sending out will not have been sitting on the storage shelves of the nat’l strategic stockpile for very long.

  7. George Conway: DeSantis plans for new police force to monitor elections ‘just pathetic’ | TheHill

“It’s all play-acting, it’s performance art,” Conway, who made a name for himself as a high-profile critic of the Trump White House, said during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” on Wednesday.

The governor’s proposal seeks $6 million to hire 52 people to establish the Office of Election Crimes and Security which would be part of the Florida Department of State. DeSantis wants the office to specifically “investigate, detect, apprehend, and arrest anyone for an alleged violation” of election laws, The Washington Post reported.

    […]

“It’s designed for DeSantis to protect himself … so that nobody can accuse him of being soft on the great election fraud, the fraudulent fake election fraud of 2020, and it’s just pathetic,” Conway added on Wednesday, noting that former President Trump won Florida in the previous election.

“This election was just a remarkable feat of democracy. It should’ve been celebrated. We were in the middle of a global pandemic and yet we had the greatest turnout we’ve had in decades,” he also said.

  8. Yeah… we ordered some home covid tests last week…  they won’t be here for a few more days.  In the meantime, I didn’t bother to go wait for hours in line to get a pcr test.  I just assumed I was positive and have isolated.  I’ve been symptom free for 5 days now.  I will start going out soon and will wear a mask. (which I’ve been doing when out anyways).  We ordered some KN95 masks… they won’t be here until next week.

trying to get this stuff through the mail in a timely manner is not a good look for this administration…

will NEVER vote for a repug, though…

  9. There’s not much to “expire” in a rapid test, patd, it’s essentially just a litmus paper encased in plastic and sealed in a hermetically sealed pouch with a desiccant pack.  They get used so quickly there are probably none in existence that have expired, yet.

  10. If you’re having trouble getting tests, that’s on you.  i have a stack ten-high because i ordered them before i needed them, not after.

…and i give them away to anyone that urgently needs them, before i am castigated as “hoarder”, have given away five already (which is ten tests b/c there are two in a pack)

  11. My sister didn’t have any trouble getting a test, Kind of a waste of money imo, after all when you lose your sense of taste as she did it is obvious, That was the tell for both of my sisters,
    Jack

  12. Now if we had an efficient medical system, or as far as that goes just a medical system at all. Testing those who came in contact with her and getting an early start before symptoms show up…..,  Naa, never mind that would make too much sense.
    Jack

  13. For the most part I stay away from places whee I need a N95 mask. I have a few left over from a project years ago and shoved back in the back out a cabinet. The things you find when you move. I haven’t used them, I just use the disposable masks and avoid sickly types.
    Jack

  14. Half of the world (3 billion people) hasn’t had a single vaccine dose, yet, while Americans complain “Wahh, Joe’s not giving us free shit quickly enough!”

Request status update on my request for one-way ticket to Mars, please.

  15. Ya know a good change to the filibuster rule would be to limit to the passage of a bill into law, after all it was originally proposed as limitless debate.
Them the majority could bring up popular items and make everybody either obviously block popular items  or go on the record.
As it is currently it is a way for political cowards to hide.
    Jack

  16. Bink good point, Delta variant came out of India and the current one from Africa. Just a matter of time until we get one that is nasty and easily transmitted.
If you want to get off this merry-go-round you get the world vaccinated. Screw the rich (by world standards) anti vac idiots in this country and start sending doses to the world.
    Jack

  17. if Putin invades it’s because he’s getting old and because covid has wracked Russia, weakening his position, not because he thinks he can predict the whims of the capricious American electorate.  We can’t even do that.

  18. He took Crimea without consequence, i agree that he’ll try, again, time is running out to build his legacy

A strong Ukrainian resistance would be his worst-case scenario

  19. Yep.  No way for Vlad to save his ugly face. Ukrainians will fight.

I don’t think it makes Biden look weak.
However, it makes tRUMPsky-loving Republicans look even worse.

  20. It dawned on me that todays news is like that Seinfeld episode , Kramer and Newman playing “Risk” on the subway.
If Putin does blunder into war from blackmail , I would hope we would turn off his gas pipelines , and send him a note. Then turn off his lights, and send him a note.
I gotta believe our ability to attack his web has never been really used.

  21. Top donors threaten to cut off funding to Sinema
The donors said they will support a primary challenge, and demanded that the senator refund their contributions if she doesn’t change her position.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2022/01/19/donors-threaten-cut-funding-sinema-527413

A group of big-dollar donors who have spent millions electing Kyrsten Sinema and other Democratic senators is threatening to sever all funding to her if she doesn’t drop her opposition to changing Senate rules in order to pass voting rights legislation.
In a letter to the Arizona lawmaker, which was first obtained by POLITICO, 70 Democratic donors — some of whom gave Sinema’s 2018 campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law — said they will support a primary challenge to Sinema and demanded that she refund their contributions to her 2018 campaign if she doesn’t budge.

  22. From the it’s about fucking time file  –

“We are terrified about our prospects as a democracy if we do not pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis VRA Act,” they wrote in the 1,400-word missive. “We appreciate your support of these bills, but they will die without your action on Senate rules. Bipartisanship works only if it is reciprocal. Republicans are gutting our electoral system in state capitals with no federal check on them. This is life and death important to us.”

  23. So a group of Wingnut senators  appeared today with a get tough on Russia squawk .

What a bag of door knobs.  Biden is faced  with war in Eastern Europe , so …. “Get tough yesterday” .
If their man was in power , it would be ” I want to build a golf course in Kiev when your done.”

  24. For several decades I have posted one consistent message about Putin, he is a KGB agent and has one goal in mind. That is to recreate the USSR. just as the Chinese have eliminated Hong Kong and are aiming for Taiwan, Putin is aiming for a USSR, and the Ukraine is just one more territory. Will NATO and the US get some brass to prevent that?  It is hard to say.  Putin is still looking at invading Finland, Estonia and possibly Sweden.  Yup.  The guy wants to refight what the Soviets lost during WWII.  There is no join between China and Russia, no matter what the “media” states.  Putin would love to retake all that went to China after WWII.  Biden needs to consolidate NATO again.

  25. best line in that SCOTUS order today was:

Because the Court of Appeals concluded that President Trump’s claims would have failed even if he were the incumbent, his status as a former President necessarily made no difference to the court’s decision.

  26. After all this pain , we never came up with a set of options for all these towns , and places , there was never a national idea of what to do with all these lives. It is an American story as old as us, but now that way has failed.
This is an AP story about Craig , Colorado  , and it’s coal fired power  plant , and mine.
A really well written article about why rural America hates the left.
I for one have spent some time around Craig, and Steamboat .
Do yourself a favor and read this one,  we keep doing the same thing over and over .

  27. The winter of 76′ – 77′  the snow pack failed  at Steamboat , back then snow guns were rare.  They were SOL .  40 miles down the Yampa the coal miners were doing just fine.  Now Steamboat is  this huge money machine, and the miners are on the ropes .
But the whole thing is doubt , because all that coal was not good for making snow.
When you fly into Steamboat, you fly into the Craig airport  , and into a box canyon .  The winter when I was there a father and son crashed  there.
The snow was deep  , so they just when up and got the bodies.
The next spring “Dad” had a kilo of coke under his seat .
    The entire town when “Doult”.

  28. https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2022/01/biden-to-give-away-400m-n95-masks-starting-next-week.html

“The Biden administration will begin making 400 million N95 masks available for free to Americans starting next week…”

“The White House announced Wednesday that the masks will come from the government’s Strategic National Stockpile, which has more than 750 million of the highly protective masks on hand. The masks will be available for pickup at pharmacies and community health centers across the country.”

  29. The twice impeached disgraced and defeated Former’s little balls have to have receded a few inches toward his gut today. Not that he can see them over his prodigious gut.
