  1. speaking of one who also called D’ump “unhinged,” in yesterday’s

The Trump campaign has suggested that Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former White House aide, pay for an ad campaign costing nearly $1 million as a “corrective” remedy for her critical comments about President Trump in her 2018 book and in subsequent interviews.
The recommendation was made in a document filed by the Trump campaign from an expert witness last week as part of an ongoing arbitration case; The Times reviewed the document.
Ms. Manigault Newman’s lawyer, John Phillips, said that the Trump campaign’s submission of Mr. Rose’s document was the height of “weaponized litigation.”
“Friday, we found out their bullets are commercials they want Omarosa to go do,” he said, referring to the report’s suggestion that only an ad campaign could “remedy” what had been said. “This isn’t free speech. It’s speech with a gun to your head.”
President Trump’s lawyers filed an arbitration case against Ms. Manigault Newman after she published a tell-all book, “Unhinged,” in August 2018, arguing she violated a nondisclosure agreement she had signed when the Trump campaign hired her in 2016. In her book she described Mr. Trump as a racist and misogynist who had made disparaging comments about Black people and women over the years.
Mr. Phillips said the document from Mr. Rose was filed after Ms. Manigault Newman’s side in the arbitration fight had sought an explanation for how they could prove “damages” were owed. Mr. Phillips said that the campaign couldn’t justify it by claiming a loss of donations, since it has raised more than $1 billion.
Yet campaign finance experts said that if Ms. Manigault Newman were to finance an advertising campaign, it would effectively represent a campaign contribution.
Having her pay for an ad campaign “in my opinion would be an illegally large in-kind contribution to the Trump campaign,” said Paul S. Ryan, the vice president for policy and litigation at the good-government group Common Cause.
Brendan Fischer, of the Campaign Legal Center, said, “I can’t believe that the Trump campaign’s attorneys would have allowed something like that to have been put in writing.”

He added, “If Omarosa were to go through with it, then both she and the Trump campaign would be violating campaign finance laws.”

  2. NBC is hosting a one hour town hall tomorrow night in Miami for D’ump. I certainly hope the same campaign exposure is afforded Biden.

  3. Definitely Fall. 4th leaf mulching today, leaves everywhere on the ground, cool mornings and the first stinkbug of the season in the house.

  4. As a white, suburban woman, I hate tRUMP…and I am not alone, even in Texas.    That threat, by the way, sounds like something a rapist would say to his victim.
What horrible thing have Donald J. tRUMP, Vlad Poo-tin, Stephen Miller, and, AG Barr contrived to keep power?
I hope my right-wing relatives in California are in the minority and are just spitting into the wind.   It’s interesting to hear that LP ads are playing on Faux Noise because they don’t seem to have taken hold with my relatives.

Now, we can do this the easy way or the hard way.  Leave the WH peacefully or in handcuffs.

  5. pogo, when, if ever, will the equal-time rule kick in?  here’s a squib from wiki that seems to say that town hall you mentioned would trigger it:

There are four exceptions to the equal-time rule. If the airing was within a documentary, bona fide news interview, scheduled newscast, or an on-the-spot news event, the equal-time rule does not apply. Since 1983, political debates not hosted by the media station are considered “news events,” and as a result, they are not subject to the rule. Consequently, these debates may include only major-party candidates without having to offer air time to minor-party or independent candidates. Talk shows and other regular news programming from syndicators, such as Entertainment Tonight, are also declared exempt from the rule by the FCC on a case-by-case basis.

  6. will this qualify?

    the hill:

Biden previously announced that he would take part in an ABC News town hall the same evening in Philadelphia, which will air at the same time as Trump’s town hall and will run for 90 minutes.

  7. well, there goes the united in united kingdom

Respondents to the Ipsos MORI survey, conducted for STV, found that 58 per cent of voters would vote Yes in a fresh independence referendum, while just 42 per cent would vote No.
The poll also found that almost two thirds (64 per cent) of Scots said that the UK Government should allow another independence referendum to be held within the next five years if the SNP wins a majority of seats in the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections.
Ipsos MORI also found that 47 per cent of Scots planned to vote for the SNP in next year’s Scottish Parliamentary elections, while just 19 per cent would vote for the Scottish Conservatives, 13 per cent for Scottish Labour, nine per cent for the Scottish Greens, and eight per cent for the Scottish Lib Dems.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s personal ratings were also found to be extremely high, with 72 per cent of the Scottish public saying they are satisfied with the job she is doing.

The Spooky Mens Chorale presents their simple but elegant solution to political difficulties which, with one small edit and a bunch of images added, applies perfectly to the US General elections coming up on November 3, 2020. This version was performed live at Conway Hall, London, August 2007. You can find out more about them here: https://spookymen.com/

  9. patd

I would suspect that once QEII dies, the UK will no longer be the UK.  It will become as it has all over the former countries of the Empire, a group of allied countries in some fashion.

In fact, once she goes, I expect most living memory of WW II will go with her.  I was born in 1944 and just have the earliest memories up to age five living in family barracks with the aftermath of the War.  The country has gone from 140 million to 330 million.   The changes to society in that period of time have been monumental.  Some of those I like.  Some of those, I definitely do not.

  10. What’s “NBC”?
Oh, wait- is it that channel that had “Seinfeld” 30 years, ago?  OK, i remember, now.

  11. AARP and NBC presents: “Night of 1000 Undereducated Fascists!”

    the Head Dipshit!

    The ghoul, Larry Kudlow!

    the vampire, Stephen Miller!

    the harpy Kayla McEnany!

    the other ghoul, Rudy Guliani!

    the animated corpse, Mitch McConnel!

…and many more horrific surprises, only on NBC!

  12. BiD….  some people just can’t be reached.  I know many of them here in my one horse town.  They know I’m a Democrat and we’ve agreed to just not discuss politics.  As Rick and I were discussing this morning over breakfast…  some people want Fox to be their only source of news because it means they don’t have to think.  Ya know… thinking…  it really taxes the brain for some people.

  13. Fox also has colorful animated graphics packages and too-attractive women for the misogynist old pervs to stare at

“Whizz…bang…zooom! (Fox Logo)”. it’s cartoons for old people.

  14. Poobah, no kidding.  My first thought (before I knew of the ABC town hall for Biden) was WTF is this?  When I learned that there was a Biden town hall to compete, my thought was WTF is this?  And they have Savannah Guthrie moderating on the NBS presentation – not exactly a skilled questioner.  She may have a legal background, but what I’ve seen doesn’t suggest she was any good at it.
Here’s my question – does the average viewer tune in to see Biden or Trump?  It’s network TV and Biden will answer questions from the participants & D’ump will put on a show. D’umbass wil be crowing about ratings Friday morning.

  15. Bink, it’s my 93 year old uncle’s sole source of news (and entertainment for that matter).  Not all the old folks watching Fox are pervs,  I think the too-attractive women are to try and hold the under-educated middle aged guys’ attention. They only hear with their eyes.

  16. Ted Cruz doesn’t want the courts to mandate school choice. He wants the congress to do it so it can be done despite being unconstitutional

  17. Ted Cruz, looking like his own evil twin.
I will be watching President Biden on ABC…and I hope he lays it all out about being a good neighbor by wearing a mask and keeping socially distant.
When Goldman Sachs says that more tRUMP means a slower recovery, any thinking Republican or Indie will vote for Joe Biden.
Why would I want to listen to SFB lie through his festering gob?

  18. Amy COVID Barrett.  I wonder how she feels knowing she will always covered in Trump stink

  19. crackers- In her blank, little mind, the lord will always wash her clean.  She’s a poor excuse for a Christian if she’ll do the bidding of an evil bastard like tRUMPsky.

‘Something is happening with the seniors’
Trump’s handling of the pandemic is proving costly among older voters who once supported him.

As Betsy Chandler delivered and installed Joe Biden yard signs at a house in Mesa recently, a senior couple approached her eagerly asking for “Republicans for Biden” signs. Chandler had to apologize — as a Democrat, she doesn’t usually carry any of those.
She gave them a standard Biden-Harris sign instead. When Chandler, a local Democratic Party vice-chair, asked why, as Republicans, they were voting for Biden, the woman said: “[Donald Trump] wouldn’t wear a mask.”

  21. another one

Donald Trump doesn’t have a plan for coronavirus. He never will. This election is the only way we’ll be able to protect ourselves.

  22. Almost 13 million votes in the bag nationwide. 77% of Pennsylvania  ballots already cast from registered Democrats, 15% Republican. Florida: 51% from Democrats, 29% GOP (CNN)

  23. In case you were ever curious about the size and power of a female bald eagle.  These two had a standoff.  The coyote decided discretion was the better part of valor

  24. .⁦@FLOTUS⁩ discloses that Barron Trump also tested positive for coronavirus after initially testing negative:

    Melania reveals Barron tested positive:

“My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive. Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms.” https://t.co/GmgZFw6Gi9

  25. You know how it is when Former Self talks the other Former Self out of stopping by the grocery, promising that all would be well with that frozen turkey pot pie residing in the freezer.  Then fast forward to Present Self staring at the frozen turkey pot pie and muttering unpleasantries at Former Self #1.  And at #2 for giving up so easily.

  26. None of them had the virus.   It’s all too pat.
    ie bullshit.

He had SOMETHING, though, wonder what it was…..

  27. I avoided the hearings too.  Wouldn’t bother with either town hall…. but…. there’s no Thursday Night football this week.  Guess ABC it’ll be.
oh…  And for being mad at NBC…  every time trump opens his mouth lately, he proves himself to be an ass and loses more voters. Maybe they’re doing the right thing.

  28. Where’s the vaccine that President Trump promised i’d have before Election Day?
    – Mr Bink
The Great Pumpkin used it all up. He advises that you observe herd mentality and play way more golf.

  29. It bothered me when she talked about the murder of George Floyd, too.  Her black, adopted daughter had concerns about what might happen to her her black bother or to her son, if she has one some day.
Amy Phony didn’t say she was worried about her children or any future grandchildren who would be POC.  Nope, she said her daughter was worried.
I fear she uses her adopted children as props.

  30. WOW! And now she won’t confirm what Roberts said about voter suppression still existing. AMY PHONY IS A LITTLE DEVIL! Any REPUBLICAN letting this happen WILL NEVER HOLD OFFICE, AGAIN!

  31. Who wins the ratings war? NBC or ABC?  Except for his base, nobody wants to hear tRUMPsky spew another lie.
ABC will have a townhall with President Biden.  I will watch him.

  32. Bill Huizenga (R), who represents my county, and is running for re-election to Congress, was supposed to attend a rally with Pence today in West Michigan. Therefore, he had to get tested for the virus. He tested positive. Trumpy is stopping in Muskegon this Saturday. Which is about 30-35 minutes from here. They should drive him by the beach. I saw a sign across from the beach last week that said: Don’t drink the Clorox! Vote Democratic!

  33. He would only do this if he has some kind of control over the ratings.  Insurance.  This is a straight up head to head Mano a Mano prime time Ratings Game.   He seems to be risking a lot not to have something in the bag.

Who tallies up these here Ratings?

  34. Mark Meadows looks like he is ready to jump out a window, lately.  Even he can’t take trump’s idiocy, anymore.

  35. I miss the old days when one of the president’s children was ill the entire nation, along with the world, would send get well cards.  This administration is so corrupt that illness is not announced.

  36. This is the ‘crime of the century’ that barr can’t get a grand jury to swallow :
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is investigating newly released emails that reveal that Hunter Biden introduced his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive at Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings in 2015 at Hunter’s request.

  37. Barr and Ron Johnson should watch their backs.   Barr is a particularly large target.
Nothing nothing nothing.  What is that sucking noise?

  38. . Accounts of Beria’s fall vary considerably. By the most likely account, Khrushchev prepared an elaborate ambush, convening a meeting of the Presidium on 26 June, where he suddenly launched a scathing attack on Beria, accusing him of being a traitor and spy in the pay of British intelligence. Beria was taken completely by surprise. He asked, “What’s going on, Nikita Sergeyevich? Why are you picking fleas in my trousers?” Molotov and others quickly spoke against Beria one after the other, followed by a motion by Khrushchev for his instant dismissal.
When Beria finally realised what was happening and plaintively appealed to Malenkov (an old friend and crony) to speak for him, Malenkov silently hung his head and pressed a button on his desk. This was the pre-arranged signal to Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov and a group of armed officers in a nearby room, who burst in and arrested Beria.

  39. The only way Fat Ass can win is to cheat.   Voter suppression and downright voter fraud and of course voter intimidation

  40. Georgia could have two Dem senators
too bad about Doug Jones.  Not looking good against a football coach who is a trumper

  41. I didn’t watch the hearings. Clips of Barrett are more than enough. The woman is a big danger to women, minorities, and LGBTQ. Barretts uncurious about so much, all lies. As KGC said, she can never get the Trump stink off her. Elections do indeed have consequences and Fuc* all those people who didn’t vote for HRC! It’s all on you and yes I’ll keep saying it.

Renee, spot-on earlier, Fox News one source is just not wanting to think. I know so many of them.

  42. Bill Barr Buries Report That Exonerates Obama

    Advertise with Mother Jones

    Shane T. Mccoy via ZUMA

In the pantheon of Republican pseudo-scandals, “unmasking” has always been one of the dumbest. National security officials routinely ask the intelligence community to “unmask” names that have been redacted in raw reports so they can get a better idea of who’s doing what to whom, and the Obama administration did this just like every other administration. Republicans, however, have insisted for years that Susan Rice and others used unmasking requests as cover for a campaign against Michael Flynn, and naturally they demanded an investigation. Just as naturally, Bill Barr gave them what they wanted.
Sadly for Republicans, the investigation turned up nothing. That’s not surprising, and neither is this:
Bash’s team was focused not just on unmasking, but also on whether Obama-era officials provided information to reporters, according to people familiar with the probe, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive investigation. But the findings ultimately turned over to Barr fell short of what Trump and others might have hoped, and the attorney general’s office elected not to release them publicly, the people familiar with the matter said. The Washington Post was unable to review the full results of what Bash found.
The investigation basically exonerated the Obama team and probably would have hurt Donald Trump’s reelection, so Barr decided to keep it under wraps. This is how the Justice Department works these days: it’s a PR shop for Donald Trump, not an independent agency serving the best interests of the American public. Hopefully that will change in a few months.

  43. Done and done. The deed is done.  VOTED!
Yesterday the lines were very long at 2 places. I got there this morning at 7:30. Poll opened at 8.  About 30 folks in front of me. The line did move quickly even though there was no straight ticket voting.
