  1. on the other hand, across the pond in the guardian:

Boris Johnson will order police to enforce a strict coronavirus lockdown, with a ban on gatherings of more than two people and strict limits on exercise, as he told the British public: “You must stay at home.”
The prime minister ratcheted up Britain’s response with an address to the nation on Monday evening, warning that people would only be allowed outside to buy food or medication, exercise alone once a day, or to travel to work if absolutely necessary.
    […]
“If you don’t follow the rules, the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings.”
    […]
“In this fight, we can be in no doubt that each and every one of us is directly enlisted. Each and every one of us is now obliged to join together. To halt the spread of this disease. To protect our NHS and to save many many thousands of lives,” he said.
“And I know that as they have in the past so many times, the people of this country will rise to that challenge. And we will come through it stronger than ever.”

  2. boris continued:

“Without a huge national effort to halt the growth of this virus, there will come a moment when no health service in the world could possibly cope; because there won’t be enough ventilators, enough intensive care beds, enough doctors and nurses,” Johnson said.
“And as we have seen elsewhere, in other countries that also have fantastic health care systems, that is the moment of real danger. To put it simply, if too many people become seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to handle it – meaning more people are likely to die, not just from coronavirus but from other illnesses as well. So it’s vital to slow the spread of the disease.”

  3. Welcome to Texas. Yeee-ha!    Thank God for Judge Clay Jenkins shutting down Dallas county.  (Look him up; he’s an interesting guy.)   Off I go to the Petrie dish.   Gotta change my alarm clock to go off later; no more traffic to worry about.    I’m a little concerned about being on the road with the shelter-in-place order in effect. This just weird.   WWIII is just weird.
Pogo is right about Trump, too.   Something is definitely up with his health (mental and/or physical). Pence might let the doctors lead, at least, without spreading misinformation.   A25

  4. wash times:

NEW YORK (AP) – Six television networks began showing President Donald Trump’s briefing on the coronavirus outbreak late Monday, but only Fox News Channel stuck it out to the end nearly two hours later.
    […]
ABC, CBS and NBC all covered Trump at the beginning of Monday’s briefing, which began about 6:10 p.m. Eastern. After 20 minutes, they switched to the network evening newscasts, never to return to Trump. The president spoke until shortly after 8 p.m.
The cable news networks have given Trump blanket coverage for his briefings, but CNN cut away Monday at around 7:20 p.m. MSNBC followed within five minutes.
Of its own decision to stop showing Trump live, CNN said that “if the White House wants to ask for time on the network, they should make an official request. Otherwise we will make our own editorial decisions.”
MSNBC, through a spokesperson, said that “we cut away because the information no longer appeared to be valuable to the important ongoing discussion around public health.”

  5. tiptoe21 – thank you.

Once again SFB has dumped a scientist who knows too much and became to key person at a insane person rant.  It looks like SFB has killed at least two people with his promoting a malaria medication.  The death toll should go higher as he keeps up his quackery.

Paging Dr. Fauci…Paging Dr. Anthony Fauci. Please call your office immediately. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/fauci-predicts-americans-will-likely-need-stay-home-least-several-n1164701

Fauci predicts Americans will likely need to stay home for at least several more weeks

“I cannot see that all of a sudden, next week or two weeks from now it’s going to be over. I don’t think there’s a chance of that,” he said.

  7. My god, I just saw a bit of the lie fest I refused to watch yesterday, and he’s getting worse. Hillary was right.
Bink, I commend your last post on the previous thread. I only go to the self checkout registers if the store has one, and of the stores I frequent only drug stores don’t (well, except for what we refer to as the ghetto Kroger, which I only go to as a last resort).

  8. pogo, Kroger is now reserving opening hours every Tuesday Wednesday Thursday for seniors only.   in KY, Kroger stores are equivalent quality-wise to Publix further south.   not sure what you meant by “ghetto”

  9. The “ghetto” Kroger is located in an area of town that I would not have Mrs. P go to and walk around after dark. There’s been a lot of drug crimes in that area and it’s adjacent to a bunch of ramshackle the rental properties that these days are best known to be habituated by a lot of people involved in crime and drug use.

I will likely be taking advantage of the early morning hours at Kroger Walmart and target depending upon what we need.

  10. Really loved the video, BlueBronc.  You live in a very beautiful spot.  That rain that you got, came up here in the form of snow.  Woke up this morning to a fresh 9-10 inches.  But now the sun is shining and it’s melting fast.

  11. From twitter:
    Drinking alone last week
    – depressing
    – antisocial
    – I “have a problem”
Drinking alone today at 11 am
    – conscientious
    – courageous
    – saving your nana’s life

  12. RR – thank you.  Vlogging is interesting and fun.  I am slowly learning the craft, the camera work is not as much a slog as is the video editing tools.  It is a chance to show the world of a senior citizen as opposed the many millennial showing their worlds.  My YouTube channel is Buena Ventura Life

  13. The thing we have to remember, when it comes to looking presidential it is a very low bar right now.
    And yet so many……
    Jack

  14. I’d be down with Cuomo.  He’s showing how to manage a crisis. Makes SFB look as stupid as he is.

  15. Pat, our local Kroger stores are top-notch as are the Publix stores. I don’t hesitate in complimenting store management on the extra-great performance of individuals/departments when appropriate.

  16. newsweek:

Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders would both beat President Donald Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up if either were to face off with the incumbent Republican today, according to a new poll.
The Morning Consult polling data, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percent, showed Biden beating Trump 47 percent to 42 percent, while Sanders beat the president 46 percent to 42 percent. But both matchups showed that a sizable portion of voters remained uncommitted, with 11 percent and 12 percent of respondents saying they were undecided for each respective candidate.

  17. Mr C and myself are not willing to sacrifice ourselves for Ivanker and the other SFB spawn

  18. BB
I saw on the news where some of the Hy-Vee stores are putting a plexiglass barrier between the clerk and customer. Good precautions, imo.
A couple of days ago I returned some building materials to lowes. The young lady wanted to know if I wanted the money put back on the card or cash. I just laughed and said put it on the card, I don’t need any of that germy money. I then pulled out my bottle of hand sanitizer and said, “I’m prepared” She smile real big reached in her pocket brought out a small bottle and said “Me too”
Hey we are all in this together
    Jack

  19. X-R, here’s how salon describes him:

“Govern me, daddy”: Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear a clean-cut sex symbol for the coronavirus age

People are now lusting after Kentucky’s “hot Mr. Rogers” because of his calm and empathetic leadership

    […]
During Beshear’s daily talks — a sort of Fireside Chat for the Facebook Live era — the governor gets visibly emotional about the sacrifices Kentuckians are making with regard to their livelihoods, extended family contact and religious practices in order to help flatten the curve. He mourns the Kentuckians who have died from the virus (there have been three fatalities so far). He talks openly and directly about why mental health is important too, and why empathy and caring for others is non-negotiable. He coaches folks applying for unemployment about processes and deadlines and reinforces that there’s no stigma in filing for assistance. When needed, he scolds. On Saturday, Beshear all but shamed a company by name that bragged about offering employees six weeks of unpaid sick leave. “Please don’t be that organization that acts like you’re doing something great when your people need so much more from you,” he said.

  20. here’s a sample of gov andy.  talks like mr. rogers – so calm one tends to fall asleep halfway thru.

Gov. Beshear reports 103 confirmed coronavirus cases in Kentucky as of Sunday. He says more than 2,000 tests have been administered so far; the average age of those testing positive is 53. The governor orders non-essential retail businesses to close by Monday at 8 pm. Groceries, liquor stores, pharmacies, and gas stations can remain open.

  21. Well, for the first time, ever, i will repeat a post i made, yesterday:

CC, …any possibility/procedure, no matter how remote, that might make an emerging star/leader like Cuomo or Bashear the 2020 Dem nominee?

  22. Jack – just got back from Giant grocery.  They had a jerry rigged plexiglass sheet hanging in front of the cashiers.  Rather rough looking.  Sad to say I did look for nasty splatters, at least there was cleaning sweep marks.

One of the hard things I had to face happended while I was on my way to Giant.  A neighbor I have not seen since last fall was walking by.  I stopped and we chatted a bit, trying to catch up.  She kept at least fifteen feed away while we talked.  I noticed she was wearing blue nitrile gloves, the type I use doing truck work.  I then dug out and offered one of my Buena Ventura business cards.  She jumped back, ‘don’t touch anything anymore’ I then I understood the gloves.  She was scared SFBless.  Now, she has always been a hermit type, a bit less sure of the world then others I know.  The media has been unrelenting for at least six weeks.  She does not watch the faux world, but the MSNBC world (which is damned scary if you just tune in for a few minutes).  I left watching her walk home and avoiding the man walking a dog.

  23. Yesterday, I was “essential.”   What a difference a day makes.  I’m on two weeks “vacation,” and hope the virus magically goes away and the shutdowns go away.   If not, I will be joining my former co-workers in the unemployment line; many layoffs today.    Lots of crying.  Couldn’t hug anyone goodbye.

  24. If dipshit was a student of history, he’d realize things never end well for delusional despots.

  25. bId – my deepest sympathy.  Been kicked in the teeth before too.  Are you needing anything except the soft electron hugs you are getting?

  26. So pleased Biden finally doing interviews. Saw him on CNN, MSNBC. Compassionate, down to earth, such a refreshing contrast to bull shitter in chief. He can keep his delegates now.

  27. The economy would sort itself out if we had FREE EASILY-AVAILABLE TESTING, but i’m guessing trumpco wants to suppress actual statistics.

  28. Yes, Craig, Cuomo for President!  He’s leading the country, thank the gods.
My son, the doc, was on Doctor Radio on SiriusXM today. Boy, he is great! While listening I was mentally reminiscing all the stages of his your life, beginning with tap his dancing on my bladder.

The dictator’s blathering on again and Texas is following suit with garble. Stay home but go to work. We need work, but stay home. Over and over.

  29. Thanks, folks.
My financial fix for the world:  Everything stops for three months.  We have one quarter where all accounts are frozen.  Businesses/people don’t collect or pay.
Everybody “non-essential” sews medical gowns, gardens, helps their neighbors from a distance, reads, creates, sleeps.
Needs are met with no money involved.
When we get back to work and folks go back to work, we resume financial goings-on.
Everything on Star Trek eventually comes true.  The Federation stopped using money.

  30. Website:
This positive account of Croesus’ end has been disputed by many scholars both ancient and modern. According to other accounts, the god Apollo carried Croesus and his family away after the fall of Sardis and they all lived happily ever after. Most modern-day scholars and historians believe that Croesus died on the pyre but that the ancients of the 4th century BCE did not care for that ending to the life of so wealthy and powerful a king. The story of Croesus served as a cautionary tale among the Greeks on hubris and a warning on not tempting the gods’ wrath by thinking of oneself as the happiest person in the world.

  31. The latest on the Amazon delivery meltdown.  Although the rye flour was delivered almost twelve hours prior to the final estimated time of delivery, it was still five days later than the first time of delivery
Today I was buying a server and some extra parts.  Nice pricey stuff.  The shopping cart gave a two day delivery.  Run it through and pay for it . . . the delivery date moved from March 26 to April 22.  Ya Hoo.  Took a few seconds to cancel that order.  Went to another seller, B H Photo, and all went through with a delivery date of March 26.

Amazon has to be doing that on purpose to get rid of buyers.  Even though it showed the system was in stock, at Amazon, it could not ship twenty miles from the warehouse to my location in a month.  They have to be sophisticated enough to know that people like me have multiple sources for the products.   And that delivery is key to buying from any of them.

Amazon, and all the others, from local food delivery to Amazon to FEDEX to UPS, they are paying premium to find drivers and deliverers.  Yet it is not enough right now.

  32. i think i have a coin allegedly minted by Croesus- looking forward to the read, thx Mr. S.

Your solution is dead-on BiD, should have been done already, but the pea-brains at trumpco can’t wrap their minds around it, and are more concerned with protecting their portfolios.

  33. The dictator made it a point to say, several times, that he’s financially supporting Boeing and the cruise ship companies!!!  ACK!

  34. I can die a happy women. I watched the last Star Wars and found out who Rey is although the back story was thin.

We shouldn’t complain about Americans’ desire for TP.  Just think of the opposite. Would we want that?  Just think how gross that’d be.
While I predicted a baby boom in 9 or so months. I also predict a divorce boom. All the people with little kids in apartments…one or both are furloughed, crying/fighting kids, no income, confined in a small space for weeks-months. Doesn’t look good.

  35. Easter, Sunday, April 12 is the dictator;s date! Fauci says, we have to be flexible with that date!  Yeah, Fauci!

  36. BiD… best wishes to you.  Let us know if you need anything.
I saw Biden on MSNBC… wish he was president right now!
    Go… Dr. Fauci… go!

  37. “Thompson…….FUCK the doomed!”
—Richard M. Nixon to Hunter Thompson while they were taking a leak.

  38. I’m off this week. We are on stay-at-home for 3 weeks. Not sure what this means for work next week. I’m all for Dan Patrick being first. I did for a walk today. I saw 5 of my neighbors out walking. Just trying to get outside, I guess. It was in the 50’s here today. Sorry, about your job, BID. One of my good friends worked at 2 different restaurants and she got furloughed from both. I can’t even watch the news right now because I’m allergic to stupidity.

  39. Well the bullshit from the WH continues unabated.  Goddamn moron.  Easter my ass.  The orange asshole probably didn’t darken the doorway of a church until 2017, if then.

Biden is running, Cuomo isn’t.  He would do well IMHO, but he’s got more important things to do at present.  Apparently I don’t spend enough time on twitter – I haven’t seen Bernie’s stupid offensive anti-Biden ads.

Mrs. P decided today to shut the office down except by telephone beginning tomorrow.  We’re not required to, but it’s actually a small step from the current condition.  She’s going to have our paralegal work remotely.  Haven’t decided yet how to deal with the sec’y/recept. Got to talk about that and make a decision.

  40. Corey – Enjoy your 3 weeks off & hope things return to normal (or better) soon.
rr – Thank you. I may need a roommate if anyone is taking in boarders.   Willing to relocate.  I’m fine for now, just in shock because yesterday I was “essential.”   My job is my identity; the last time I was unemployed was the 1980s.   By the way, I must’ve given away the knitted cat toy project.  I did find a counter cross-stitch project in my craft bag, with other things I had forgotten about.  I have time now.

  41. BiD

If you need a place to be, let me know.  If for no other reason, WA medical care is a hell of a lot better than TX.

  42. Jamie – Thank you. 🙂
My hometown has turned on the Christmas lights and elsewhere they are playing Christmas music.

  43. I’ve been working on it, but I get about 9 songs added and my phone shuts down and I lose the whole thing.  Maybe my phone has the ‘rona.
First song is The Shaman “Move Any Mountain”

  46. Ok, without further ado, here’s the “No ‘Rona Gonna Break My Style from BiD” playlist

please pardon the small liberty i took in adding the first entry, it’s too good of a song

  47. Ms Dallas, I am saddened by your loss. Please be aware that you are not your job. You are worth much more than that, even if you make money in Croesus-style amounts.

Please accept a cyber group hug from Sweetie and me.

  48. From Channel 4 in NYC:

    * * *

Currently, hydroxychloroquine is under investigation in clinical trials for SARS-CoV-2 infection, and treatment of patients with mild, moderate, and severe COVID-19, according to the CDC.

The main concerns of using either chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is cardiotoxicity, especially prolonged QT syndrome, which is a heart rhythm condition that can cause fast, chaotic heartbeats. This concern is particularly more acute in patients with underlying health issues and immunosuppression, according to the CDC.

Because of these concerns, CDC urges caution when considering these drugs in patients with chronic medical conditions or those who are receiving medications that might interact and cause arrythmias — problems with the heartbeat’s rate or rhythm.

However, the agency notes that it has been reportedly well-tolerated in COVID-19 patients.

    (Continues)

SFB is being reckless by encouraging the use of these drugs until the safety and efficacy of their use in age cohorts and exposure cohorts has been established.  The people who are likely to need them most (Remember, 80% of cases resolve without treatment) are those who appear to be at least potentially most at risk from the drugs themselves if they are not COVID-19 victims. The doctors and dentists who are taking and prescribing these drugs to people who are not infected is as reckless as SFB suggesting that they re likely to be the biggest game changer in medical history.  (I guess he’s never heard of penicillin, flu vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, DPT, MMR or sterile technique in surgery.  Fucking moron).
