Sunday Serendipity

By Jace, A Trail Mix Contributor

They are American musicals to be sure but often they take place in the most far away places under the most unusual circumstances. It makes them all the more appealing. This is one of my favorite.

Enjoy the music, and as always enjoy your day!

  1. thank you, jace. very uplifting way to start the day.¬† another favorite of the many in fiddler is “if I were a rich man” which is like the day dreaming some of us indulge in over what it would be like to win the lottery… starts out with silly stuff but gets serious when you really think about how you would handle such a serendipitous happening.

done well here is a breakdown by¬†wiki of “if I were a rich man”¬†

Through the first two verses, Tevye dreams of the material comforts that wealth would bring him. Sung boisterously and comedically, Tevye first considers the enormous house he would buy and the needless luxuries he would fill it with, including a third staircase “leading nowhere, just for show,” then the poultry he would buy to fill his yard.

Tevye switches his attention to the luxuries in which he would shower his wife, Golde, in the third verse. He talks of servants to alleviate her workload, fancy clothes for her pleasure, and mountains of food. The song is sung in the same boisterous, comedic style.

The music and vocals intensify during the bridge, when Tevye starts lamenting his place in the community as a lowly milkman, and considers the esteem and importance that wealth would bring him.

In the final verse, Tevye softens as he further considers his devotion to God. He expresses his sorrow that the long working hours he keeps prevents him from spending as much time in the synagogue as he would like, and how wealth would allow him to spend less time working and more time praying and studying the Torah, and finally asking God if “it would spoil a vast eternal plan” if he were wealthy….

so, mixers, what would you do if you suddenly became a rich man/woman? comport yourself like the twit or like bill and melinda gates and warren buffett? or turn away completely from it like gautama buddha?

  2. twit’s usual plants, shills perhaps?¬† wonder if there’s a coterie of them in a closet stashed away on air force one… remember the fake cheering mob for him at cia wall of remembrance?

    the hill:

“They had these beautiful, soft towels, very good towels. And I came in and there was a crowd of a lot of people, and they were screaming and they were loving everything,” Trump said. “I was having fun, they were having fun.”

“They said, ‘throw ’em to me! Throw ’em to me Mr. President!’ Trump said, before pantomiming shooting a basketball in the same way he tossed the paper towels.

“So the next day they said, ‘oh it was so disrespectful to the people.’ It was just a made-up thing. And also when I walked in, the cheering was incredible.”

“You were a rock star,” Huckabee replied.

  3. also from the hill:

White nationalists returned to Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday less than two months after one person was killed and dozens were left injured when violence broke out after the “Unite the Right” rally.

White nationalist and alt-right leader Richard Spencer led the group of roughly 30 white nationalists, which gathered at Emancipation Park, according to the Charlottesville’s CBS affiliate.

The group carried tiki torches and chanted “You will not replace us,” by a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in the park.

“Hello Charlottesville, we’re back and we’re going to keep coming back. You will not replace us, you will not erase us,” a protester on a mega phone said.

“The left wing establishment is built around anti-white policies,” Spencer told the group.

The group also chanted “The South will rise again” and “Russia is our friend.”

  4. A beautiful morning glory to the trail.¬† Div, thanks for checking-in and the ‘slomo’ recovery is a concern.¬† It sounds like you are surrounded by trump’s carpet bagger friends.¬† Rebuild texas.

Rexit has been stewing since this summer.   In September, putie rued awarding tillerson the ruskie order of friendship.   trump complained to his undercover boss about tillerson.   putie trying to get the rift straightened-out.  The plan was to keep tillerson at least a year.   Remember benghazi!!!

  5. A nice Sunday morning, Paris – Tours on the television providing a nice visual of the farmlands around Paris while I update the electronics of the house with whatever is needed to get them to this day.

  6. I am pleased to be able to report that my best friend in Fairhope AL escaped damage from Nate. He & his were in the NE quadrant as it came ashore.

  7. Jace

    Lovely.  I love musicals.

So Bob Corker is going to run against PG  someone should get him a footstool or start a David and Goliath meme

  8. craig, tried to submit a thread topic for tomorrow but the draft didn’t take…. sent by to you email instead.¬† something up with submittal format?¬† or have I overstayed my pulpit welcome?

  9. kgc, thanks for alerting us to the corker corker.

from wapo:¬†Corker calls White House ‚Äėan adult day care center‚Äô in response to Trump‚Äôs latest Twitter tirade

Sen. Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, on Sunday called the White House “an adult day care center” after President Trump attacked him in a morning Twitter tirade.

Trump alleged in a trio of tweets that Corker “begged” him for his endorsement, did not receive it and decided¬†to retire because he¬†“didn’t have the guts” to run for reelection next year.

In response, Corker (Tenn.) tweeted, “It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”

Trump’s public lashing of a fellow Republican comes after Corker¬†made headlines last week when he starkly suggested that the national security team provides the president with badly needed adult supervision.

In an extraordinary statement, Corker told reporters that¬†Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim¬†Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly ‚Äúare those people that help separate our country from chaos.‚ÄĚ

Trump, who has little tolerance for public criticism and prides himself on counterpunching those who cross him, fired off a trio of tweets Sunday morning attacking Corker, who announced last month that he plans to retire and not seek reelection in 2018.

Trump tweeted, ‚ÄúSenator Bob Corker ‘begged’ me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee. I said ‘NO’ and he dropped out (said he could not win without… endorsement). He also wanted to be Secretary of State, I said ‘NO THANKS.’ He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran Deal! Hence, I would fully expect Corker to be a negative voice and stand in the way of our great agenda. Didn’t have the guts to run!‚ÄĚ

  10. Patd,

You pose an interesting question. Were I a rich man, I would like to give back to all those who have helped me over the years. Mostly colleges and universities that provided the opportunities not only for me but for our children. Organizations that have stood for causes in which I believe, and any entity that works to bring awareness of the scale of food insecurity in the richest country on earth. That’s a start I guess I’m sure there is more I would do were it with in my means, but it is a beautiful dream none the less.

Ah, if wishes were horses , beggars would ride.

  11. patd,

I had a topic all written up not long ago too & it wouldn’t submit. In all fairness, my day sucked when that happened so I figured it was just me. ūüėČ

  12. no idea patd. Had no trouble posting Jace. Stuck using phone on this trip, difficult to investigate. Email me posts if having trouble. I can handle it.

  13. If I were rich, I’d buy a Hammond B-3 with Leslie Tone Cabinet, a non-denominational church to put it in, a ’56 Chevrolet red and white convertible with a 265, fo’ barrel, dual exhaust…..then I’d help Puerto Rico.

After that it would be scholarships, all the way down.

  14. President Coolidge came down in a railroad train,
Had a little fat man with a notebook in his hand.
President say Hey little Fat Man, ain’t it a cryin’ shame,
What the river has done to this part of Cracker Land.

  15. craig, sent to both help & craig addresses.¬† hope it comes thru okay, but¬† use only if something better doesn’t come along.¬† one never knows what the twit will do next or if, hopefully, karma will do to him giving us a really nifty thread topic to chew on.

  16. while the twit fiddles with media foolishness, elon comes to the aid of his country

Musk cites Puerto Rico efforts in delay for Tesla semi reveal

Tesla is delaying its semi truck unveiling by more than two weeks.
The company is diverting resources toward fixing Model 3 bottlenecks and helping with recovery efforts in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello is expected to talk with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Monday.

  17. Craig Рgood tourism things.  Have more to add to my retirement tour.

Of interest is a first winter storm for the Colorado Front Range.¬† Currently, 1711 08OCT17, the temperature in Boulder was 67F.¬† Forecast is to drop into the twenties or lower.¬† Winds in the teens. Snow in a few inches.¬† In other words, a typical fall storm along the Front Range.¬† Watch the “news” shows talk about a “blizzard” hitting Denver tomorrow.¬† A blizzard has a definition; sustained winds over thirty-five miles per hour and snow at over one inch per hour.

    If it bleeds it leads.

May move to Mexico for retirement.  It might be safer there than the U.S. if SFB, umpa lumpa pence and Dorthy sessions get their way with transgender and LGBTQ people.

  18. One of the things I did not like a few years ago was Robert Corker running for a senate seat, and winning.  The guy is far right wing, no redeeming qualities that I could see, except he made the U.S. market for supplying tires for antique vehicles.  He now has acquired another quality, he pissed off SFB. Now there are all sorts of rumours floating around about him as SFB attacks him. Support impeachment.  That is good. He may not be running for another term, but his final months may have a lot of important features.

Consider Corker joining McCain in a health care payment system that expands or adds to ACA.  How about if he does support impeachment?  That little step or threat of it could cause all sorts of turmoil in the Senate.  And, there is something very nice about having the senile old man, pediphile, misogynist, homophobe and white supremacist pissed off so much he went over the edge (once again).

  19. Jace, Thank you.  A bit late with the Sunday Kudos but a great pick.

Speaking of musical locations as well as tragedies, if you haven’t listened to the whole soundtrack of “Come From Away”, make the effort to do so.¬† It is the story of the town of Gander, Newfoundland that had to take in the passengers from planes grounded when 9/11 happened.¬† Great story and excellent music.

  20. Oh and it had a wonderful song about the changes in women’s lives.¬† They can get their own damn drinks.¬† ūüôā
